THE REBELLIONGenesis 3:1-24

THE REBELLION

Genesis 3:1

“Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made, He said to the woman…..”

Angel Lucifer“Satan” “Adversary” “The Great Dragon”

THE REBELLION

I. Results in the Distrust of God’s Word vv. 1-7

II Ruptures the Relationship Between God and Mankind vv. 8-16, 23-24

III. Ruins God’s “GOOD” creation vv. 17-22

RESULTS IN THE DISTRUST OF GOD’S WORD

“And the LORD God commanded the man, saying ‘of every tree of the garden you may freely eat. But the tree of knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for the day that you eat of it you shall surely die”

Genesis 2 16-17

Satan;“…has God indeed said?”

“You will not surely die…”

RESULTS IN THE DISTRUST OF GOD’S WORD

Genesis 3: 5

Satan: “For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil”

God: “In the day you eat of the fruit, you shall die”

RESULTS IN THE DISTRUST OF GOD’S WORD

The Fall“she (Eve) saw that the tree was good

for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes and the tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate” v.6

‘then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves covering….” v.7

RESULTS IN THE DISTRUST OF GOD’S WORD

“And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the Garden” v.8

‘I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself” v.10

RESULTS IN THE DISTRUST OF GOD’S WORD

The Word of God is the Word of Life; “wonderful Word of life”

“The Word of God keeps us from sin or Sin will keep us from God’s

Word”

RUPTURES THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GOD AND MAN VV. 8-16, 23-24

“In the day you eat of the fruit, you shall die”

Sin leads to shame, guilt and fear

“Therefore, the LORD God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. So he drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of Garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.” vv 23-24

RUINS GOD'S “GOOD” CREATION VV17-24

“Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.” Genesis 3: 17-19

RUINS GOD'S “GOOD” CREATION

To the woman he said, “I will greatly increase your pain in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” v. 16

“…until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust your are and to dust you will return,” v.19

RUINS GOD'S “GOOD” CREATION

So the LORD God said to the serpent, “because of you have done this, cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life.” v.14

“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring (seed) and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” v.15

THE REBELLION--SUMMARY

Take personal responsibility and corrective action: Believers and Unbelievers
