T H E S T A R January 2017
On Sunday the 8th, our parish was able to celebrate two wonderful events. We presented to the Bishop four of our youth for confirma-tion. Confirmation is a milestone event in the lives of all those who receive the sacrament. It is a chance for individuals to make an adult commitment to their baptismal vows. It is also an important event in the life of the parish. We, as members of a community, are given the opportunity to reaffirm our own baptismal vows with those who are being confirmed.
In that moment of reciting and responding to the baptismal cove-nant, our individual reaffirmations, confirmations, and commitments become communal ones. Our voices are joined together, and we make a declaration of our faith together, and in support of one an-other.
We also join our voices with Jesus Christ, offering up ourselves to him. Committing ourselves to living out his gospel, and living lives in responses to his glorious resurrection. It is no less than all of us de-claring who we are as a people of faith, and doing it in communion with one another.
The second thing we celebrated was the start of my new ministry as your rector. It was an honor when I was called to be your rector. It was humbling to be officially installed by Bishop Shannon as your rector. My prayer is that with your support, and with God’s help, I will be able to serve Church of the Epiphany as best I can. I pray that I will be a faithful steward of its resources, a faithful minister of the sacraments, and a faithful messenger of the gospel. I am truly thankful for the trust that you have put in me, and I will strive con-tinually to be a pastor deserving of that trust. I am excited to con-tinue working with you all, building God’s kingdom in our communi-ty, and sharing the gift that is our parish home with all those who seek a sanctuary.
Faithfully yours,
Father Andrew Rector of Church of the Epiphany

Large Print Prayer Books
We now have 5 copies of the complete Book of Common Prayer in large print that is available to anyone who needs the larger print. They are on the side table in the narthex.
Stewardship Committee: The Stewardship Committee did not meet in December, meetings will resume in January. A big thank you to
those parishioners that have already turned in their pledge card for 2017.
As of January 10th, 59 pledge cards had been returned. Pledges for current expenses is $169,902 and for
building expenses $21,550 for a total of $191,452.
Ann Henderson, Stewardship Chair
Stewardship As we reproach 2017 we have much to be thankful for this year. God has provided us with a dynamic new rector, we have welcomed new members into our fold, welcomed home some that had moved away, and we have hosted CARITAS and many wonderful events. Let us take a moment to give God thanks and praise for all he has given us and done for us in 2016 both at Epiphany and in our personal lives. There is one bleak spot in our year at Epiphany. As of December we have not reached the pledged amount needed to sustain the church in 2017. At the December Vestry meeting the budget could not be voted on and we faithfully believe that the budget will be ratified at the January meeting. If you have not turned in your pledge card as of yet please get it in by January 15th so the budget can be voted on at the January 17th meet-ing. Your Stewardship Committee and Vestry know that God is always faithful and that He will continue to bless Epiphany but He needs your help and support. As you read this if you have not turned in your pledge card please take it out and fill it out and bring it to church or email it to Lucy at [email protected]. The pledge card is also available online at www.epiphanyepiscopal.com under current information. You can fill it out online and it will be sent to Lucy or print it out and drop it in the collection plate. For those parishioners using e-giving, please remember to go online before January 1st to update your pledge amount. Lucy has posted your e-giving amounts for the year end statements and will be included on the statement she prints out in the next week or two. Wishing you a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year, Ann

Reader Training
On February 26th at 9:30 am, we will be holding a training for lay readers. If you are a long-time reader, this will be a chance to get a refresher on the im-portance of what lay readers do in our worship, and also on how to prepare before reading. If you have never been a reader before, but are interested, this will be a chance to learn about what it means to be a reader during our Sun-day Worship. If you are not sure being a reader is for you, but are still curious, please come. Attending the training is not a commitment to joining the reader team. If you have and questions, please ask Father Andrew.
Parish Prayer List Starting in February, we will be changing how the parish prayer list is updated. At the beginning of every month, we will be starting with a new list. That means names will be taken off every month auto-matically. This will help to ensure that the prayer list is current and up to date with the needs and concerns of the congrega-tion. If your need will require long term prayers, please let Lucy know, and she will keep your submitted name on th list until told otherwise. If you have any questions, please see Father Andrew.
Ecumenical Hymn Festival On January 22nd at 4:30 pm —- nine area churches will participate in an ecumenical Hymn Festival titled “The Church of Christ—Always Reforming”. It will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, 7809 Woodman Road. The event will mark both the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity and the 500th
anniversary of the Reformation.
Come and sing and hear God’s word for us today, with readings by several area clergy and a joint choir, handbells, brass and other instruments.
Attendees are asked to bring canned or boxed foods to donate to the Lamb’s Basket, an area food bank which was begun by Christ Lutheran Church 20 years ago.

Birthday Covered Dish Celebration Friday, January 20th @ 6:30 PM, we will have our Epiphany All-Parishioner Birthday Celebration. This great potluck event will be a chance for everyone to share their special day all together. Bring your favorite dish to share — cake and ice cream will be provided. All ages are welcome, and we promise not to ask what year you were born.
Thanks to all the congrega-tion members who donated Christmas gifts to our two families and for the tree full of mittens, gloves, scarves and hats. Once again we have reached out into the community to provide a help-ing hand to the less fortunate amongst us.
