Processional Hymn: “We Three Kings” All sing

We three kings of Orient are; Bearing gifts we traverse afar.

Field and fountain, moor and mountain, Following yonder star.

Refrain:

O star of wonder, star of light, Star of royal beauty bright,

Westward leading, still proceeding, Guide us to thy perfect light.

Born a king on Bethlehem's plain, Gold I bring to crown Him again,

King forever, ceasing never Over us all to reign.

Refrain:

Frankincense to offer have I. Incense owns a Deity nigh.

Prayer and praising voices raising, Worship Him, God on high.

Refrain:

Myrrh is mine: Its bitter perfume Breaths a life of gathering gloom.

Sorrow, sighing, bleeding, dying, Sealed in a stone-cold tomb.

Refrain:

Glorious now behold Him arise, King and God and Sacrifice.

Alleluia, alleluia! Sounds through the earth and skies.

Refrain:

Offering of the Gifts Please be seated From the altar steps, the priest prays.

Priest: Let us pray. O God the Father,

All: who by the shining of a star guided the Magi to behold your Son: Show us

your heavenly light, and give us grace to follow until we find him, and in

finding him, rejoice. And grant that as they presented gold, frankincense,

and myrrh, we now may bring him the offering of a loving heart, an adoring

spirit, and an obedient will; for his honour, and for your glory, O God most

high. Amen.

Children help the priest place the maji in the creche

A moment of silence is observed as all kneel before the creche

Priest: Let us pray. O God the Son,

All: highest and holiest, you humbled yourself to share our birth and our death:

bring us with the shepherds and Magi to kneel before your lowly cradle,

that we may come to sing with the angels your glorious praises in heaven,

where, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, you live and reign, world

without end. Amen.

Children depart for Sunday School.

The Gathering of the Community Please stand

Leader: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God,

and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.

People: And also with you.

Leader: Almighty God,

All: to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are

hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy

Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy

name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Collect of the Day Please kneel or be seated

Leader: Almighty and everliving God, you revealed the incarnation of your Son by the

brilliant shining of a star. Shine the light of your justice in our hearts and over

all lands, and accept our lives as the reassure we offer in your praise and for your

service, through Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord, who lives and reigns with

you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

All: Amen.

The Proclamation of the Word Please be seated

Reader: A Reading from the Prophesy of Isaiah.

Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For

darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon

you, and his glory will appear over you. Nations shall come to your light, and kings to the

brightness of your dawn. Lift up your eyes and look around; they all gather together, they

come to you; your sons shall come from far away, and your daughters shall be carried on

their nurses' arms. Then you shall see and be radiant; your heart shall thrill and rejoice,

because the abundance of the sea shall be brought to you, the wealth of the nations shall

come to you. A multitude of camels shall cover you, the young camels of Midian and

Ephah; all those from Sheba shall come. They shall bring gold and frankincense, and shall

proclaim the praise of the Lord.

Reader: The word of the Lord. Isaiah 60.1-6

People: Thanks be to God. A moment of silence is observed

Psalm Paraphrase : #385– “WORSHIP THE LORD …” Please stand & sing

Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness; bow down before him, his glory proclaim;

gold of obedience and incense of lowliness bring, and adore him: the Lord is his name!

Low at his feet lay thy burden of carefulness; high on his heart he will bear it for thee,

comfort thy sorrows, and answer thy prayerfulness, guiding thy steps as may best for thee be.

Fear not to enter his courts in the slenderness of the poor wealth thou canst reckon as thine;

truth in its beauty and love in its tenderness, these are the offerings to lay on his shrine.

Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness; bow down before him, his glory proclaim;

gold of obedience and incense of lowliness bring, and adore him: the Lord is his name!

Reader: A Reading from the Letter of Paul to the Ephesians. Please be seated

This is the reason that I Paul am a prisoner for Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles -

for surely you have already heard of the commission of God's grace that was given me for

you, and how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I wrote above in a few

words, a reading of which will enable you to perceive my understanding of the mystery of

Christ. In former generations this mystery was not made known to humankind, as it has

now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit: that is, the Gentiles have

become fellow heirs, members of the same body, and sharers in the promise in Christ Jesus

through the gospel. Of this gospel I have become a servant according to the gift of God's

grace that was given me by the working of his power. Although I am the very least of all

the saints, this grace was given to me to bring to the Gentiles the news of the boundless

riches of Christ, and to make everyone see what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages

in God who created all things; so that through the church the wisdom of God in its rich

variety might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. This

was in accordance with the eternal purpose that he has carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord,

in whom we have access to God in boldness and confidence through faith in him.

Glo ry- to you, Lord Je sus- Christ.

Reader: The word of the Lord. Ephesians 3.1-12

People: Thanks be to God. A moment of silence is observed

Sequence Hymn: #129 - “NO CROWDED EASTERN STREET” Please stand & sing

The first two verses are sung before the Gospel

No crowded eastern street, no sound of passing feet;

far to the left and far to right the prairie snows spread fair and white;

yet still to us is born tonight the child, the King of glory.

No rock–hewn place of peace shared with the gentle beasts,

but sturdy farm house, stout and warm, with stable, shed, and great red barn;

and still to us is born tonight the child, the King of glory.

The last two verses will be sung; after the Gospel.

No blaze of heavenly fire, no bright celestial choir,

only the starlight as of old, crossed by the planes' flash, red and gold;

yet still to us is born tonight the child, the King of glory.

No kings with gold and grain, no stately camel train;

yet in his presence all may stand with loving heart and willing hand;

for still to us is born tonight the child, the King of glory.

The Gospel

Leader: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you.

Leader: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew.

People:

In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the

East came to Jerusalem, asking, "Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews?

For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage." When King

Herod heard this, he was frightened, and all Jerusalem with him; and calling together all

the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to

be born. They told him, "In Bethlehem of Judea; for so it has been written by the prophet:

'And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;

for from you shall come a ruler who is to shepherd my people Israel. '" Then Herod secretly

called for the wise men and learned from them the exact time when the star had appeared.

Praise to you, Lord Je sus- Christ.

Then he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, "Go and search diligently for the child; and when

you have found him, bring me word so that I may also go and pay him homage." When

they had heard the king, they set out; and there, ahead of them, went the star that they had

seen at its rising, until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw that

the star had stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy. On entering the house, they saw the

child with Mary his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening

their treasure chests, they offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having

been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they left for their own country by another

road.

People:

Sermon Please be seated

The Nicene Creed Please stand

Leader: Let us confess our faith as we say,

All: We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth,

of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only

Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from

Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the

Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he

came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became

incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was

crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the

third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into

heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in

glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We

believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the

Father. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has

spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic

Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look

for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayers of the People Please kneel or be seated

The leader offers prayers for the church, the world, the sick and the suffering, and those who have died.

Leader: In joy and humility let us pray to the creator of the universe, responding to the

invitation “hear us, O Lord,” singing:

Leader: By the good news of our salvation brought to Mary of the mystery of the Word

made flesh, hear us, O Lord.

All: Lord, grant us peace.

Leader: By the manifestation of the King of glory to the shepherds and magi; we pray

for the church that it may manifest Christ to the world, especially….hear us, O

Lord.

All: Lord, grant us peace.

Leader: By the submission of the maker of the world to Mary and Joseph of Nazareth;

we pray that all nations may submit themselves with humility to the love and

peace of Jesus Christ, hear us, O Lord.

All: Lord, grant us peace.

Leader: By the baptism of the Son of God in the river Jordan, we pray for those who are

sick and suffering and needing the anointing of your healing and life-giving

Spirit….hear us, O Lord.

All: Lord, grant us peace.

Leader: We pray for those who have died, that they may enter into your kingdom….and

that the kingdoms of this world may become the kingdom of our Lord and

Saviour Jesus Christ; hear us, O Lord.

All: Lord, grant us peace.

Leader: Almighty God,

All: you have given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common

supplications to you, and you have promised through your well-beloved Son

that when two or three are gathered together you will hear their requests.

Fulfil now our desires and petitions, as may be best for us, granting us in this

world knowledge of your truth, and in the age to come eternal life; for you,

Father, are good and loving, and we glorify you through your Son Jesus

Christ our Lord, in the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

Lord, grant us peace.

Confession and Absolution Please kneel or be seated

Leader: Dear friends in Christ, God is steadfast in love and infinite in mercy; he welcomes

sinners and invites them to his table. Let us confess our sins, confident in God’s

forgiveness.

Leader: Most merciful God,

All: we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by

what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved

you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves.

We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus

Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will,

and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen.

Priest: Almighty God have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins,

confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in eternal life; through

Jesus Christ our Lord.

People: Amen.

The Peace Please stand

Priest: The peace of the Lord be always with you.

People: And also with you.

Offertory Hymn: #149 - “ALL MY HEART THIS NIGHT REJOICES” All sing

All my heart this night rejoices as I hear, far and near, sweetest angel voices;

"Christ is born," their choirs are singing, till the air everywhere now with joy is ringing.

Hark! A voice from yonder manger, soft and sweet, doth entreat, "Flee from woe and danger!

Pilgrims, come! From all that grieves you you are freed; all you need I will surely give you."

Come, then, let us hasten yonder! Here let all, great and small, kneel in awe and wonder!

Love him who with love is yearning! Hail the star, that from far bright with hope is burning!

Thee, dear Lord, with heed I'll cherish, live to thee, and with thee dying, shall not perish;

but shall dwell with thee forever, far on high, in the joy that can alter never.

At this time we share from the abundance of our lives and give to this community

so that we may create abundance for others who live in scarcity and need.

If you feel moved to give, you may place an offering in the alms basin as it is being circulated.

Offertory Sentence All sing

The Celebration of the Eucharist

Priest: Good and Loving God, we rejoice in the birth of Jesus, who came among the poor

to bring the riches of your grace. As you have blessed us with your gifts, let them

be a blessing for others. With the trees of the fields, with all earth and heaven,

we shout for joy at the coming of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. All: Amen.

Priest: Blessed are you, gracious God, creator of heaven and earth, you have revealed

your eternal plan of salvation, and have shown your Son Jesus Christ to be the

light of all peoples. Therefore with angels and archangels we raise our voices in

joyful praise to proclaim the glory of your name.

- - - - - - - - - - - - Ho ly- Ho ly- Ho ly- Lord, God of pow er- and might;

SANCTUS All sing

Please kneel or be seated

Priest: We give thanks to you, Lord our God, for the goodness and love you have made

known to us in creation; in calling Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken

through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus your Son. For

in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the

Saviour and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil,

and made us worthy to be in your presence. In him, you have brought us out of

error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life. On the night

he was handed over to suffering and death, a death he freely accepted, our Lord

Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and

gave it to his disciples, and said, "Take, eat: this is my body which is given for

you. Do this for the remembrance of me." After supper he took the cup of wine;

and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you:

this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the

forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me."

Therefore, Father, according to his command,

All: we remember his death; we proclaim his resurrection, we await his coming in glory;

Priest: and we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, Lord of all;

presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine. We pray you,

gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts, that they may be the

sacrament of the body of Christ and his blood of the new covenant. Unite us to

your Son in his sacrifice, that we, made acceptable in him, may be sanctified

by the Holy Spirit.

Priest: In the fullness of time, reconcile all things in Christ, and make them new, and

bring us to that city of light where you dwell with all your sons and daughters;

through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the

Church, and the author of our salvation; by whom, and with whom, and in

whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honour and glory are yours, almighty

Father, now and for ever. All: Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Lamb of God, Lamb of God, you

take a way- the sin of the world, have mer cy,- have mer cy- on us.

Lamb of God, Lamb of God, you

take a way- the sin of the world; grant us your peace. Grant us your peace.

Priest: We break the bread of life, and that life is the light of the world.

All: God here among us, light in the midst of us, bring us to light and life.

Priest: The gifts of God for the People of God.

People: Thanks be to God

Please come forward to the Altar rail and stand or kneel as you prefer.

Communion Hymn: #148 - “SEE AMID THE WINTER’S SNOW” All sing

See amid the winter's snow, born for us on earth below,

see, the tender Lamb appears, promised from eternal years!

Hail, thou ever blessed morn! Hail, redemption's happy dawn!

Sing through all Jerusalem: Christ is born in Bethlehem.

Lo, within a manger lies he who built the starry skies,

who enthroned in height sublime sits amid the cherubim.

Hail, thou ever blessed morn! Hail, redemption's happy dawn!

Sing through all Jerusalem: Christ is born in Bethlehem.

Say, ye holy shepherds, say what your joyful news today;

wherefore have ye left your sheep on the lonely mountain steep?

Hail, thou ever blessed morn! Hail, redemption's happy dawn!

Sing through all Jerusalem: Christ is born in Bethlehem.

"As we watched at dead of night, lo, we saw a wondrous light;

angels, singing 'Peace on earth' told us of the Saviour's birth."

Hail, thou ever blessed morn! Hail, redemption's happy dawn!

Sing through all Jerusalem: Christ is born in Bethlehem.

Sacred infant, all divine, what a mighty love was thine,

thus to come from highest bliss down to such a world as this!

Hail, thou ever blessed morn! Hail, redemption's happy dawn!

Sing through all Jerusalem: Christ is born in Bethlehem.

Communion Hymn: #143 - “ANGELS, FROM THE REALMS OF GLORY” All sing

Angels, from the realms of glory, wing your flight o'er all the earth;

you who sang creation's story, now proclaim Messiah's birth:

come and worship, come and worship, worship Christ, the new–born king.

Shepherds in the field abiding, watching o'er your flocks by night,

God with us is now residing; yonder shines the infant Light:

come and worship, come and worship, worship Christ, the new–born king.

Sages, leave your contemplations; brighter visions beam afar;

seek the great desire of nations; you have seen his natal star:

come and worship, come and worship, worship Christ, the new–born king.

Saints before the altar bending, watching long in hope and fear,

suddenly the Lord, descending, in his temple shall appear:

come and worship, come and worship, worship Christ, the new–born king.

Though an infant now we view him, he shall fill the eternal throne,

gather all the nations to him; every knee shall then bow down:

come and worship, come and worship, worship Christ, the new–born king.

Prayer after Communion

Priest: Radiant God, with our eyes we have seen your salvation, and in this meal we

have feasted on your grace. May your Word take flesh in us, so that we may be

your holy people, revealing your glory made known to us in Jesus Christ, our

Saviour and Lord.

All: Amen.

Priest: Glory to God,

All: whose power working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or

imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in

Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Blessing & Announcements

Recessional Hymn: #147 - “BREAK FORTH, …” Please stand & sing

Break forth, O beauteous heavenly light, and usher in the morning;

O shepherds, shrink not with affright, but hear the angel's warning.

This child, this little helpless boy, shall be our confidence and joy,

the power of Satan breaking, our peace eternal making.

This night of wonder, night of joy, was born the Christ, our brother;

he comes, not mighty to destroy, to bid us love each other.

How could he quit his kingly state for such a world of greed and hate?

What deep humiliation secured the world's salvation!

Come, dearest child, into our hearts, and leave your crib behind you!

Let this be where the new life starts for all who seek and find you.

To you the honour, thanks, and praise, for all your gifts this time of grace;

come, conquer and deliver this world and us, forever.

Dismissal

Priest: Let us bless the Lord. Alleluia!

People: Thanks be to God. Alleluia!
