Hope in the Bible is described as “a desire for something that is unseen.” Today, the world is dealing

with a pandemic that at times people can feel hopeless as to whether there is an end in sight. So where do we turn for hope? This study is designed to provide condensed Biblical teachings of hope as found in the Word of God.

Join Pastor Al Fadi on Wednesday evenings, at 7:00 pm, for an hour- long Bible study on the topic of “Hope.”

“Jesus Walks on Water”

April 19, 2020 Dr. Roger Ball

[email protected] I am a big fan of science. I am even a bigger fan of the Creator of Science because the Creator can walk on water, calm any storm, defy every weather predictor, confuse and amaze all scientists, shock and humiliate the politicians and mystify and humble all doctors. What is a miracle? Why miracles? The Fear Not Miracle is For You Lesson #1 - The “______________ not miracle” is a gift available to _______________.

• The opposite of fear is _______________________.

• One person said “Fear makes us feel our humanity.”

• What is a miracle?

• Why miracles?

John 6:15 - So Jesus, perceiving that they were intending to come and take Him by force to make Him king, withdrew again to the mountain by Himself alone.

• The miracle of feeding 5000 just occurred maybe on Monday. It clearly defied all science.

• But verse 15 the next day maybe Tuesday … Jesus goes for solitude. Alone time. Self-isolation.

• Why no miracle in verse 15?

Lesson #2 - If Jesus needed ______________ so do _________.

• Make room for God.

Psalm 28:7 - The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.

Romans 10:17 - Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

Lesson #3 - Life cycles often this way: ___________ first and ______________second and ______________ third and them ______________maybe or ___________________________.

• They don’t get it. No politics. He’s God. Now a storm.

Page 13: t d - s3.amazonaws.coms3.amazonaws.com/production.sermons.io/fbctempe/... · The enter for Islamic Research and Awareness (IRA a fulltime ministry of F) is pleased to provide you

John 6:16 - Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea, (17) and after getting into a boat, they started to cross the sea to Capernaum. It had already become dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. (18) The sea began to be stirred up because a strong wind was blowing.

• Strong wind … Storms come up at the most inopportune times – day or night.

• God will challenge you … require faith from you.

Lesson #4 - Storms require a _________________________.

John 6:19 - Then, when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat; and they were frightened.

• They rowed for hours against the wind and only made 3-4 miles.

• In the storm now frighten … they see a ghost.

• The guys in the boat had no faith.

John 6:20 - But He said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” (21) So they were willing to receive Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.

• Doubting Roger. Doubting ___________________.

John 20:27 - Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

• With Jesus you weather the storms of life.

• This miracle of John 6 is also told in Matthew 14:22-33 and in Mark 6:45-52.

• John and Mark leave out Peter walking on water. By faith Peter with eyes on Jesus walked on water. But eyes off of Jesus Peter sinks.

• We can only guess why Peter is not included. The text does not say.

John 4:42 - They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”

Lesson #5 - Why record the miracle of Jesus walking on water?

• Why? It is so easy to replace God with Science.

• When trouble comes we think we can go it without God.

John 6:26 - Jesus answered them and said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.

John 6:29 is key … This is the work of God that you believe in Him whom He has sent.

• One person said, “The lesson is that when they take their eyes off of Jesus and focus on their difficult circumstances, they begin to sink

Page 14: t d - s3.amazonaws.coms3.amazonaws.com/production.sermons.io/fbctempe/... · The enter for Islamic Research and Awareness (IRA a fulltime ministry of F) is pleased to provide you

under the weight of their problems. If we cry out to Jesus in faith, he will catch us by the hand and raise us above seemingly impossible surroundings.”

Isaiah 40:31- but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Hebrews 11:1 - Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

Lesson #6 - This miracle “Do not be afraid” occurred on the _____________________________.

• Roosevelt is north east of Phoenix. 80 miles NE from our church.

• Sea of Galilee is north east of Jerusalem. 60 miles north of Jerusalem.

• Jesus did 18 of the 33 recorded miracles on or near the Sea of Galilee.

• How many names does the Sea of Galilee have in the Bible?

• “Kinneret,” in Hebrew means “violin,” this lake is shaped like violin or a pear.

Lesson #7 - Jesus gives courage ______________ the storm and _______________ the storm.

• When Jesus commands you, obey Him. Fear not …

• Faith is simply taking the next step. Faith unleashes the supernatural. That’s not a ghost that’s Jesus.
