ABOUT THE CENTRE FOR CRIMINOLOGY AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE The Centre for Criminology and Criminal Justice was established in 2017 and is one of the major Centresfor specializations in Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad. Criminology and Criminal Justice is a vibrantacademic field engaged in activities to develop and strengthen the existing Criminal Justice system ofthe state and benefits the society for smooth functioning. Our Centre functions with the objective towork as a resource Centre in the field of Criminology and Criminal Justice. Our major focus areas areresearching various fields of Criminology and Criminal Justice and undertaking various activities thatenhance students’ knowledge. The Centre organizes various seminars, symposiums, conferences,research projects and field works on various sub-fields of Criminology and Criminal Justice.In the pursuit of achieving our objectives, we have organized various workshops, activities, conferencesand research projects, which include a two-day training program on Introduction to Crime Prevention,aone-day workshop on Victimology and Victim Assistance,A two-day workshop on FingerprintingExamination, conducted a two-week research internship with Tribal Research Centre, Nilgiri districts,Ooty, Tamil Nadu, a six- day National Training Program on Fundamentals of Criminology and ForensicScience.

ABOUT THE SEMINAR The prevention of crime is a multi-dimensional approach to reduce the occurrence of crime, detercriminal behaviors through enforcement of law. All the countries regardless of their developmentstatus focus on different methods to prevent and control crime. However, it is not only thegovernment’s role to prevent the crime, but it also involves non-governmental organisations,communities and individuals. It is crucial to investigate, analyse and evaluate the diverse factors thatcontributes to commission of the crime and strategies for crime prevention. The goal of this seminar isto raise awareness about the existing crime control strategies highlighted in the national andinternational framework, share experiences, and best practices and provide a means to create andimplement new strategies.

OBJECTIVES OF THE SEMINAR The national seminar on “Crime Prevention and Control” organised by the Centre for Criminology andCriminal Justice, Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad aims to serve as a platform to fostercommunication and action among the scholars and practitioners from different parts of country . Itwill further provide opportunities to share innovative ideas and strategies for successful prevention ofcrimes of all sorts. The seminar attempts to delve deeper into embracing the different perspectivesrelated to criminology, penology, victimology and law enforcement at a domestic and internationallevel.

 THEME OF THE SEMINAR: CRIME PREVENTION AND CONTROL

Crime prevention has become an increasingly important component in many national andinternational strategies to ensure public safety and security. It mostly comprises of the strategies andmeasures that seek to reduce factors contributing to crime and its harmful impact on individuals andsocieties. The existing lacunae in international and domestic legislations to prevent and control crimes shouldbe addressed. The effects of crimes are grave in nature and have an impact on the mankind as whole.However, many governments across the world has failed to include various crimes in their domesticlegislations, making it hard to prosecute the persons responsible for it and serving criminal justice.Thus, failing to prevent these crimes both on national and international level. This seminar thus, intends to delve on different approaches to prevent crime and understanding therole of different stakeholders in preventing and controlling the crime.

The word limit for abstract is 300-400 words in Times New Roman, 12 font size, 1.5 spacing. The abstract must be accompanied with a cover letter with details of author(s) in .doc/.docx formatonly. The biographical details must include Title of the paper, Name of the author(s), designation,Institutional affiliation, contact no. and email address.  The abstract should be sent through google form link.The abstract must be submitted on or before at 11:59 pm on February 3rd, 2020.   The selection of abstracts would be intimated by February 5th, 2020.The maximum number of authors for each abstract/paper shall not exceed two.A committee will review the abstracts and only shortlisted abstracts shall be required to send theirfull-length papers who would have the privilege of presenting their paper at this seminar.

PARTICIPANTS The seminar focuses on different areas of crime prevention and control and aims to bring togetherthoughts of academicians, scholars, students, policy makers, police authorities, NGOs, Members ofJudiciary, Government officials, experts and legal professionals from all around the world.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES The submission for the seminar shall be two-fold in nature: Firstly, an abstract shall be sent whichshall be subjected to initial scrutiny. Lastly, if the abstract is selected, a research paper shall be sentfollowing upon the same.

ABSTRACT

The full paper should be of 4000-6000 words (exclusive of footnotes) and needs to be submittedon or before at 11: 59 pm on February 17th, 2020     The body of the submission must be in Times New Roman, 12 Font Size and 1.5 spacing.     The footnotes must be in Times New Roman, 10 font size and single spacing. Citation Format:Bluebook 20th Edition    The margin of 1 inch on all sides must be maintained throughout the paper.     All submissions should be sent in .doc/.docx format only.   Any non-compliance with the prescribed guidelines would lead to prima facie rejection.  No part of the paper should have been published earlier nor should it be under consideration forpublication.The papers submitted will be subject to plagiarism check.All the submissions regarding Full Paper a link will be shared to the selected abstracts.Selected Papers may be published in a book or journal.

GUIDELINES FOR PAPER PRESENTATION

 The sessions will be grouped according to the theme of the paper. Each presenter will be given 10minutes for the presentation of the paper. An open discussion shall be conducted afterpresentation of each paper. The paper presenters can make use of any suitable mode ofpresentation. It shall be upon the discretion of the author(s) to make use of presentation tools shallas PowerPoint, Prezi etc.
