Canadian pianist Sylvia Shadick-Taylor enjoys a diverse musical life. Sheis comfortable as a soloist, chamber musician, accompanist and teacher.
As a soloist Sylvia has a strong interest in contemporary music. Premieringmany Canadian and American works, she has performed in Canada and theUnited States, including her highly successful New York concert debut in1997.
As a chamber musician, Ms. Shadick-Taylor has performed with manyensembles. Recent performances include concerts in Canada, France, Japan,and a performance at Camegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall in New York Citywith Hungarian/Canadian violinist Nandor Szederkenyi. As anaccompanist, she spans opera classics to demanding contemporary concertrepertoire, her work often being heard on CBC Radio.
Sylvia lives in Edmonton and is a member of the music faculties at theUniversity of Alberta and Alberta College. She works as a vocal coach,adjudicator and clinician and has worked for the Edmonton Opera, theEdmonton Symphony Orchestra and Pro Coro Canada.
A graduate of the University of Alberta where she studied with AlexandraMunn, Sylvia has also enjoyed the musical influence of Sheila Shinkewski,Thomas Muraco, Menaheim Pressler, Edith Oppens and Gyorgy Sebok. Herearly years were in Saskatchewan and were followed by studies in Banff,Aspen, New York and Salzburg.
Sylvia has recently released two CD's on the Arktos label: "IntimateImpressions" featuring the piano music of Frederic Mompou; and a 1994release entitled "At Your Service" which focuses on the art ofaccompanying. She can also be heard on the CD's "Northern Arch" and"Soundland Alberta".
