US HISTORY VOCABULARY INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGY
Vocabulary Strategy: Define and Illustrate
We are using the Illustrated Vocabulary Model in which students find the formal dictionary definition of a particular term, put the definition in their own words, then provide an illustration to show mastery. We use the model on all units that we teach to reinforce vocabulary in advance of both teaching and testing.
Directions: Provide a dictionary definition on the back of this sheet and in the left hand column define the vocabulary entry using YOUR OWN WORDS.
In the right hand column illustrate the definition to the best of your ability (this is not an Art contest.

Volleyball On Tuesday night the Nimitz Volleyball team took on cross town rival Irving and it was a clean sweep with both freshman teams, JV, and Varsity winning a heated battle! That ends the first round of district play. We start the second half on Friday September 30th.
Cross Country Here are the results from the McNeil cross country meet this past weekend.
Varsity Girls: Jasmine Valencia was 31st out of 298 runners, Perla Barrera was 70th.
Varsity Boys: Jonathan Ruiz was 59th out of 283 runners.
JV Girls: Vanessa Castillo was 192nd out of 576 runners.
JV Boys: Carlos Trejo was 62nd out of 581 runners, and Cristian Monge was 138th.
Those numbers might not sound too impressive, but this was a huge meet at the state course, with some of the premier teams from all over the state. The teams finished in the middle of the pack, and 26 of the runners had their best time of the year so far.

Nimitz DECA- In it to WIN it
Fifteen of Mrs. Marjorie Mitchell’s emerging leaders and entrepreneurs from Nimitz DECA, took a leap of faith and journeyed to UT-Dallas for MOCK DECA competition on Friday, September 30,, 2016. They experienced first-hand what it feels like to be among hundreds of other young leaders and interview in front of judges on topics that were both unfamiliar and familiar them. They did an awesome job in the hot seat! An eye-opening experience. It was truly experiential learning in ACTION!
Academics in Action Ernest and Young Connection and Entrepreneurship Classes
Marketing and Entrepreneurship instructor Mrs. Marjorie Mitchell had a great experience last week. Her Entrepreneurship
classes experi-enced what it takes to build a business by gener-ating ideas and
product innova-tion. They accom-plished this with a video challenge activity about the life of a young entrepreneur. This event was held in the Nimitz Library with the assistance of Ernst and Young Volunteers and a NFTE facilitator. Mrs.
Mitchell’s students got the opportunity to learn hands on what it takes to create a new product with limited resources and also practiced their presentation skills. Nimitz has so much to offer. This is a program that is enriching and engaging. LEARNING in ACTION. Presenting Nimitz High School Entrepreneurship Class: 1st and 6th Period: PRODUCT INNOVATION In Class Business Plan Competitions held in May 2017!
