Audience and Scope
The purpose of this is to inform customers for the Sig Sauer p226 about pistol.
This will explain the different parts of the Sig Sauer pistol and how the
mechanisms work. It is the responsibility of the users of the product to know and
understand the operation of the firearms and how to use it safely. This will
instruct them on how this specific pistol works. There are many designs for pistols
that very significantly so this is not a catch all for pistols but works for many
designs that are similar.
The Origins
The p226 was originally designed by Sig Sauer for the Joint Service Small Arms
Program or JSSAP to replace the armys previous pistol. It is a very similar design
to their earlier P220 model. The Sig Sauer, Figure 1, lost to the Beretta, Figure 2,
mainly on the Berettas lower price point. Although the Sig Sauer lost many
different services decided to adopt the p226 for themselves these include:
Navy SEALs Coast Guard Federal Air Marshals Naval Criminal Investigative Service or NCIS Texas Rangers Papal Guard British Special Air Service or SAS

How It Works
The first the operator needs to do is make sure that he or she is in at an
appropriate location to fire the pistol in accordance with local, state and
federal laws. Make sure that the appropriate ammo in the correct caliber is
selected. The Sig Sauer P226 is available in 9 millimeter, .357 sig, and 40 Smith
and Wesson. The pistol says on the square part of the barrel what the caliber
is. In order the fire that pistol the operator must:
o Load a magazine with bulletso Pull the slide back to insert a bullet into the chamber, the area
between the firing pin and the barrel inside the slide
o Point the pistol at an appropriate target with an appropriatebackstop to catch the bullet
o Pull the triggerOnce all of the previous operations have been done in the appropriate order
the pistol takes care of the next actions. The following actions happen in a
fraction of a second:
o The hammer strikes the back of the firing pino The firing pin hits the primer on the back of the caseo The primer detonates the gun powder inside the caseo The gas behind the bullet expands pushing the bullet down the barrel

o The bullet exits the barrel with a high velocity and a spin from thespiral grooves inside the barrel
o The bullet flies down and impacts the target
Conclusion
This Sig Sauer P226 is a world renowned handgun that is used all over the world.
It will serve the operator well assuming that the operator uses the pistol safely
and in an appropriate manner. Thought the design does not cover all the
components inside the pistol it is to the extent that the average operator would
require for normal operation. Also breaking down the pistol further than is shown
without being a Certified Armorer, someone who has been instructed by the Sig
Sauer Corporation in the more advanced operation of the pistol and its parts, will
voice the warranty of the pistol.
