Swing Original Monks Press Kit (English)

TRANSCRIPT

  • Swing Original Monks was born in Ecuador in 2010, with members from Latin America, Europe and the United States.

As a result of experimenting with electronic beats, samples, synths, and folk and urban rhythmic motifs, the band has embraced a wide range of genres, and in their music you will nd an unusual con-coction, in which merengue meets country-western, klezmer meets Peruvian chicha, a gipsy fanfare marries cumbia, and Caribbean are mixes with hard-hitting hip-hop and dubstep in a few words: a sensual kaleidoscope of sounds, a multicultural feast for the ears and the soul.

In 2012, with only two years of artistic activity, Swing Origi-nal Monks made their rst international appearances in Chile and Colombia, and in the summer of 2013, the band embarked on its rst interna-tional tour, performing at nu-merous festivals in Europe and the USA (15 shows in 6 countries). The band is currently working on its new material, which is set to tour the world in 2015, a program that includes projec-tions and other theatrical ele-ments, creating an eclectic set piece of color and vim.

  • In May, 2013, the band's debut album was released independently, selling over 2,000 copies in one year. The album has since reached the ears of Eduardo Cabra (Visitante), member of Grammy-winning Calle 13, one of Latin America's signature music acts. He became interested in the project and offered to produce a reissue of the album, adding to it seven new original songs the band has been working on. The album was recorded in Puerto Rico in September 2014 and will be available in stores and digital platforms throughout the world in March, 2015.
