PAINTING TIPSHOW TO PAINT YOUR POOL IN HOT WEATHERBeforenoon,allconcretestructuresandplastersurfacesareexhalingairasthe

surfaceisbeingwarmedupbythesun(theairmayalsocontainvaryingdegrees

ofmoisture).

If chlorinated rubber is appliedbefore theconcrete iswarmedup, itmay skin

overbeforetheairhashadachancetoescape.Astheairisgraduallywarmed

bythesun,itwillexpandandcausethepaintcoatingtoblisterbecauseitcannot

escape.Whenevertroubleisexperiencedalongtheselines,thepaintingshould

bedeferreduntiltheheatofthedayhaspassedandtheconcreteisstartingto

cooloff.Atthispointthestructureisinhalingairandthedangerofanyblisters

developingisataminimum.

PoolPaintscontainrelativelyquick-evaporatingsolvents.However,wheneverthe

paintisappliedtoasurfaceexposedtoahotsun,askinformsonthesurface

ofthepaintbeforethesolventshavehadanopportunitytoevaporate.Thus,the

trappedsolventsformgaseswhichexpand,causingbubblesorblisterstoappear.

Itshouldbekeptinmindthatthetemperaturesinsideanemptypoolcanbeas

muchas10-15degreeswarmerthantheair.

Iftheblistersformwhilepainting,thebestwaytodealwiththemistopaintthem

overlightlywithabrushdippedinthinner.Thiswillmaketheblisterscollapseby

dissolvingthepaintandcauseittopenetratedeeperintothepores.Blistersthat

areseveraldaysoldshouldbescrapedoffthebareconcreteandtouchedupwith

athinprimingcoat.Chlorinatedrubbermaybethinnedasmuchas50%.

Acertainamountofsolventevaporates fromthepaintduringapplication.Care

shouldbetakentomaintaintheoriginalconsistencyofchlorinatedrubberbythe

additionofthinnerastheworkprogresses.Themoreheavilythematerialisapplied,

themoreblistersareapttooccur.Ontheotherhand,thematerialshouldnotbe

thinnedoutexcessively.Threethincoatsareeasiertoapplyinhotweatherthan

twocoatsatthenormalconsistency.Eachnewcoatpartlydissolvesthelastone

andthenskinsoverrapidly,imprisoningsolventsandair.Consequently,thethicker

thecoating,themoretimeisrequiredfortheimprisonedsolventstoevaporate.

Topaintapoolwithchlorinatedrubberorepoxypaint,thepoolsurfacemustbe

extremelydry.Beforepainting,youshouldperformthe“condensationtest”.To

determinedrynessofthepoolsurface,performthissimpletest:

• Ducttape50mmx50mmpiecesoftransparentplastictothedeependwall

andfloorandonseveralotherareasofthepool.

• Waitthreehourstodetermineifcondensationhasformedunderneaththe

plastic.Ifcondensationhasformedunderneaththeplasticthenthesurface

isnotdryenoughtopaint.Removetheplasticandwait24hourstoperform

thetestagain.

• Continuewiththetestuntilnocondensationformsunderneaththeplastic

afterthethree-hourwaitperiod.Thisensuresthesurfaceisdryenoughto

applyepoxyorchlorinatedrubberpaint.

HOW TO APPLY CHLORINATED RUBBER PAINT

PLEASE FOLLOW ALL SURFACE PREP INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE APPLYING ALL PAINT Chlorinated rubbercoatingshavebeenusedforyearsonmoreswimmingpoolsthananyothertypeofpaint.Theyareeasiertoapplythanepoxiesandprovideasmoothsurfacethatiseasytocleanandmaintain.Beingthepaintofchoiceforresidentialandcommercialuse,chlorinatedrubbercoatingsalsooffertheaddedadvantageofrecoatabilityoverpreviouslypaintedchlorinatedrubbersurfaces.Note:Chlorinatedrubberisnotforuseonspas,whirlpoolsorotherfibreglasssurfaces.

Chlorinatedrubberpoolpaintsareexcellentforrecoatingpreviouslypaintedchlorinatedrubbersurfaces.Theywillalsoperformwellonbareconcreteorplaster.Becauseofthenatureoftheirmanufacture,chlorinatedrubberpaintsarelowsolids,highsolventproducts.Therefore,careneedstobetakentoapplythesepaintsinathinfilmtodrysurfaces.Ifyourpool’spaintsystemhasmorethan10coatsofpaint(over200microns),considersandblastingtheoldpaintcompletelyoff.

Thebestwaytoapplyourpoolpaintsiswitharoller.Usenomorethan6mmnapmohair,lambskin,phenoliccoreroller.Applychlorinatedrubberatrecommendedcoverage.DONOTapplytoothickly.

Idealtemperaturesforapplicationarebetween12-30°C.Avoidpaintingindirectsunlight.Refertothebackpage–‘HowtoPaintyourPoolinHotWeather’.

Ifrainoccursduringanypartofthepaintprocess,allowanextradayofdrytimeforeachdayofrain.

This product is a premium quality swimming pool paint based on pure chlorinated rubber. It is quick drying and easy to apply. It provides a hardwearing and durable finish, which can be easily cleaned. The product has excellent resistance to acids, chlorine, oxidizing and bleaching agents.

SURFACE PREPARATION (as per page 3) Thesurfacemustbecleanandsound. Thecontaminants likebodygrease,suntan lotion,oiletcshouldbecompletelyremovedbydegreasingandcleaning.Allowcompletedrying.Thesurfaceshouldberoughenoughtoenablegoodadhesion.(approx.60grit).Newconcretesurfacemustbefullycuredandtreatedbeforeapplicationofthisproduct.Ifpaintingoveroldandfullycuredchlorinatedrubber,thisproductcanbeapplieddirectlyafterdegreasingandcleaning.

APPLICATION Stir the content thoroughly using a broad paddle. On a bareconcreteandcement render,applyfirstcoatwith20%dilutionwithThinners6.01tosealthesurface.Followwith1-2fullcoatsun-thinned.Ensureminimum16hoursrecoatinginterval.Donotpaintwhenthetemperatureismorethan30oCandalsoinwindyconditions.Incaseofrepainting,applyoneortwofullcoatsdependingontheconditionofoldpaint.

HOW TO APPLY CHLORINATED RUBBER PAINT

PLEASE FOLLOW ALL SURFACE PREP INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE APPLYING ALL PAINT Chlorinated rubbercoatingshavebeenusedforyearsonmoreswimmingpoolsthananyothertypeofpaint.Theyareeasiertoapplythanepoxiesandprovideasmoothsurfacethatiseasytocleanandmaintain.Beingthepaintofchoiceforresidentialandcommercialuse,chlorinatedrubbercoatingsalsooffertheaddedadvantageofrecoatabilityoverpreviouslypaintedchlorinatedrubbersurfaces.Note:Chlorinatedrubberisnotforuseonspas,whirlpoolsorotherfibreglasssurfaces.

Chlorinatedrubberpoolpaintsareexcellentforrecoatingpreviouslypaintedchlorinatedrubbersurfaces.Theywillalsoperformwellonbareconcreteorplaster.Becauseofthenatureoftheirmanufacture,chlorinatedrubberpaintsarelowsolids,highsolventproducts.Therefore,careneedstobetakentoapplythesepaintsinathinfilmtodrysurfaces.Ifyourpool’spaintsystemhasmorethan10coatsofpaint(over200microns),considersandblastingtheoldpaintcompletelyoff.

Thebestwaytoapplyourpoolpaintsiswitharoller.Usenomorethan6mmnapmohair,lambskin,phenoliccoreroller.Applychlorinatedrubberatrecommendedcoverage.DONOTapplytoothickly.

Idealtemperaturesforapplicationarebetween12-30°C.Avoidpaintingindirectsunlight.Refertothebackpage–‘HowtoPaintyourPoolinHotWeather’.

Ifrainoccursduringanypartofthepaintprocess,allowanextradayofdrytimeforeachdayofrain.

This product is a premium quality swimming pool paint based on pure chlorinated rubber. It is quick drying and easy to apply. It provides a hardwearing and durable finish, which can be easily cleaned. The product has excellent resistance to acids, chlorine, oxidizing and bleaching agents.

SURFACE PREPARATION (as per page 3) Thesurfacemustbecleanandsound. Thecontaminants likebodygrease,suntan lotion,oiletcshouldbecompletelyremovedbydegreasingandcleaning.Allowcompletedrying.Thesurfaceshouldberoughenoughtoenablegoodadhesion.(approx.60grit).Newconcretesurfacemustbefullycuredandtreatedbeforeapplicationofthisproduct.Ifpaintingoveroldandfullycuredchlorinatedrubber,thisproductcanbeapplieddirectlyafterdegreasingandcleaning.

APPLICATION Stir the content thoroughly using a broad paddle. On a bareconcreteandcement render,applyfirstcoatwith20%dilutionwithThinners6.01tosealthesurface.Followwith1-2fullcoatsun-thinned.Ensureminimum16hoursrecoatinginterval.Donotpaintwhenthetemperatureismorethan30oCandalsoinwindyconditions.Incaseofrepainting,applyoneortwofullcoatsdependingontheconditionofoldpaint.

Apco Pitakote High Build Epoxy Coating is a two-pack solvent free epoxy coating for pools & floors. Pitakote is formulated for use where chemical and abrasive resistance is necessary. It can be used where hygiene requirements of the highest standard are needed and give a smooth finish on properly prepared surfaces.

IMPORTANT Do not apply at temperatures below 13ºC. Do not exceed therecommendedpaintapplicationspreadrates.Propersurfacepreparationisessential.PitakoteHi-BuildEpoxyCoatingpartA(base)andpartB(catalyst)mustbeverywellmixedtogether.Thepot-lifeoruseabletimevariesaccordingtocolourandambienttemperature,between2-4hoursonly.

Donotapplyifrainisforecastwithin6–8hoursafteryourapplication.Rainwillnotaffectthecureofthecoatingbutifthefilmisstilluncured,un-reactedactivatorwillmixwiththewatertoformawhite“bloom”orprecipitate.Likewise,asuddendropintemperaturetowardseveningmaycreatedewwhichcouldhavethesameeffect.Itisthereforebesttostartpaintingwhenthesunisonthepoolandstoppaintingintheearlyafternoon.

AftermixingthepartAwithpartB,leavethemixturefor5minutesbeforeusing.DonotaddanyThinneruntiltheHardenerhasbeenmixedin&leftforaminimumof5minutes.
