SWARTHMORECOLLEGECODEOFCONDUCTWe expect conduct that exemplifies the best traditions of intercollegiate athletics. Coaches and student-athletes abide by the spirit and letter of the sport playing rules and are gracious in both victory and defeat. Competition is conducted in a nondiscriminatory manner that encourages enthusiastic, positive support of the participants and teams by all spectators. Profanity; sexist, ethnic, or racial comments; or, other intimidating actions will not be tolerated. As hosts, we are responsible for providing the visitors with an environment that would meet our expectations if the roles were reversed. This is our home; please treat it as you would your own. Centennial Conference Mission Statement To provide for athletic competition among institutions that share similar academic aspirations and are committed to the total educational experience for students engaged in sports. The Conference comprises independent institutions whose missions and curricula are predominantly in the tradition of liberal education. The member institutions share an educational culture that seeks to foster academic excellence. Intercollegiate athletic programs are an integral part of the life of member institutions and complement their educational objectives. Member institutions believe the benefits of athletics participation provide significant value to the educational experience. Athletics can and should promote life skills including fair play, respect, preparation, teamwork, leadership and sportsmanship. Within an atmosphere of integrity and mutual trust, the member institutions pledge their commitment to the purpose and mission of the Conference. The Three D's of NCAA Division III Discover- DIII student-athletes are encouraged to pursue their interests and passions beyond the classroom and field of play…to discover themselves. Develop- DIII institutions provide an environment that encourages student-athletes to develop into well-rounded adults. Dedicate- DIII institutions expect student-athletes to dedicate themselves to achieving their potential. Student-athletes must manage their busy schedules, keep up with class work and face the same challenges as the rest of the student-body. NCAA Mission For intercollegiate athletics to promote the character development of participants, to enhance the integrity of higher education and to promote civility in society, student-athletes, coaches, and all others associated with these athletics programs and events should adhere to such fundamental values as respect, fairness, civility, honesty and responsibility. These values should be manifest not only in athletics participation but also in the broad spectrum of activities affecting the athletics program.
