Swachta Report

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a nationwide campaign which was launched on 2nd October 2014, and

aims to eradicate open defecation by 2019. It is a campaign that has covered 4,041 statutory

cities and towns. Shri Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India gave a call for ‘Swachh

Bharat’ as a mass movement to realize Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of a Clean India. The PM

desired that a nationwide campaign must be organized with the participation of all sections of the

society to bring about mass awareness on cleanliness and that government officers should also

ensure participation in the cleaning of the government offices and other places.

The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan initiative was also undertaken at the various offices and unit

locations at Sesa Goa.

On 17th April 2016, a cleanliness drive was conducted at Sarmanas Security Office and the

surrounding areas of the Bicholim Unit. This involved bush cutting, removal of creepers around

Sarmanassecuirty office, main gate, CCTV control room and around parking areas. 16 members

participated in this drive.

On 24th July 2016, a cleanliness drive at Dhabdhaba Gate and surrounding areas of Bicholim

mines was conducted. A total of 26 security personnel participated in this drive. The drive was

scheduled for 2 hours between 8.00 am to 10.00 am. Massive cleaning was done, including the

cleaning of the two wheeler parking area yard, bush cutting & removal of creepers and weeds.

On 27th July 2016, a plantation drive was conducted in which 23 security personnel planted 200

cashew saplings on 4 Top Dump. The participants showed great enthusiasm and interest during

the drive.

Apart from these, various cleanliness drives have been taken up by the security team across

various IOB sites during Gandhi Jayanti and Deepawali. Around 47 personnel participated in

the drives on the various dates and sites.

On 2nd October 2016, PID (VAB Cluster) had 12 participants taking part in the drive. The drive

was scheduled from 7.30 am to 10.15 am.

On 29th October 2016, SBP (Central Cluster) had 17 participants taking part in this drive. The

drive was scheduled from 7.15 am to 10.15 am.

On 30th October 2016, Codli Mine (South Cluster) had 18 participants taking part in the drive.

The drive was scheduled from 8 am to 11.15 am.

On 5th February 2017, a cleanliness drive was scheduled at the Bicholim Unit between 1 pm to

4 pm, which had 10 security personnel participating in the drive. The drive included the cleaning

of entrance area at Dhabdhaba and parking areas, collection of plastic and paper waste and

removal of creepers and weeds.
