ENERGY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM9/17/20159 EET432 ELECTRICAL ENERGY UTILIZATION SUSTAINABLE ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

EXAMPLE9/17/201510 EET432 ELECTRICAL ENERGY UTILIZATION SUSTAINABLE ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMImplementationOrganizationThe Companys Energy Management Program shall be administered through the Facilities Department.

Energy ManagerThe Energy Manager shall report directly to the Vice President of Facilities, and shall have overall responsibility for carrying out the Energy Management Program.

EXAMPLE (Acme Manufacturing Company)9/17/201511 EET432 ELECTRICAL ENERGY UTILIZATION SUSTAINABLE ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMEnergy CommitteeThe Energy Manager may appoint and Energy Committee to be comprised of representatives from various departments. Members will serve for a specified period of time. The purpose of the Energy Committee is to advise the Energy Manager on the operation of the Energy Management Program, and to provide assistance on specific tasks when needed.

EXAMPLE (Acme Manufacturing Company)9/17/201512 EET432 ELECTRICAL ENERGY UTILIZATION SUSTAINABLE ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMEnergy CoordinatorsEnergy Coordinators shall be appointed to represent a specific department or division. The Energy Manager shall establish minimum qualification standards for Coordinators, and shall have joint approval authority for each Coordinator appointed.

ReportingThe energy Coordinator shall keep the Energy Office advised of all efforts to increase energy efficiency in their areas. A summary of energy cost savings shall be submitted each quarter to the Energy Office. The Energy Manager shall be responsible for consolidating these reports for top management.

EXAMPLE (Acme Manufacturing Company)9/17/201513 EET432 ELECTRICAL ENERGY UTILIZATION SUSTAINABLE ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMTrainingThe Energy Manager shall provide energy training at all levels of the Company.

Policy UpdatingThe Energy Manager and the Energy Advisory Committee shall review this policy annually and make recommendations for updating or changes.

EXAMPLE (Acme Manufacturing Company)9/17/201514 EET432 ELECTRICAL ENERGY UTILIZATION SUSTAINABLE ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMEquipment used should be reviewed and these questions should be asked:Is this actually needed? How can the same equipment be used more efficiently? How can the same purpose be accomplished with less energy? Can the equipment be modified to use less energy?Would new, more efficient equipment be cost-effective?

ENERGY MANAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES9/17/201515 EET432 ELECTRICAL ENERGY UTILIZATION SUSTAINABLE ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMAn Energy Efficiency Index (EEI) is one of the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) to track the performance of the energy consumption. Also known as Energy Index, Specific Energy Consumption (SEC), Specific Energy Ratio etc.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY INDEX (EEI)9/17/201516 EET432 ELECTRICAL ENERGY UTILIZATION SUSTAINABLE ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMIn general, EEI could be define as

Where factor that related to the energy used are:- Weight of product produced- No of items produced- Floor area of building- Number of impatient beds per night (hospital building)- Number of occupied room per night (hotel building)

ENERGY EFFICIENCY INDEX (EEI)

9/17/201519 EET432 ELECTRICAL ENERGY UTILIZATION SUSTAINABLE ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMNo Cost Energy Saving Approach- Targeting less than 5% of electrical energy saving

Low Cost Energy Saving Approach- Targeting between 5% - 20% of electrical energy saving

Medium / High Cost Energy Saving Approach- Targeting more than 20% of electrical energy saving

ENERGY MANAGEMENT APPROACH9/17/201520 EET432 ELECTRICAL ENERGY UTILIZATION SUSTAINABLE ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMNo Cost Energy Saving Approach

Shutting down equipments when not in used. The usage of high power equipment must be controlled.More toward awareness.

ENERGY AUDIT APPROACH9/17/201521 EET432 ELECTRICAL ENERGY UTILIZATION SUSTAINABLE ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMLow Cost Energy Saving Approach

Replacing equipments with high efficiency low power consumption.Maintenance of equipments must be in scheduled.Improving power factorThe usage of high power equipment must be controlled.Need management commitment.

ENERGY AUDIT APPROACH9/17/201522 EET432 ELECTRICAL ENERGY UTILIZATION SUSTAINABLE ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMMedium / High Cost Energy Saving Approach

Reviewing the process involved.Implementing from design stage.Improving power factorReplacing equipments with high efficiency low power consumption.Need management commitment.

ENERGY AUDIT APPROACH9/17/201523 EET432 ELECTRICAL ENERGY UTILIZATION SUSTAINABLE ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMGreen BuildingA green building focuses on increasing the efficiency of resource use energy, water, and materials while reducing building impact on human health and the environment during the buildings lifecycle, through better sitting, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and removal.Green Buildings should be designed and operated to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on its surroundings

MALAYSIAS GREEN BUILDING INDEX (GBI)9/17/201524 EET432 ELECTRICAL ENERGY UTILIZATION SUSTAINABLE ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMGreen Building Index (GBI)Malaysias first comprehensive rating system for evaluating the environmental design and performance of Malaysian buildings based on the six (6) main criterias of: Energy Efficiency Indoor Environment QualitySustainable Site Planning & ManagementMaterials & ResourcesWater EfficiencyInnovation.

MALAYSIAS GREEN BUILDING INDEX (GBI)9/17/201525 EET432 ELECTRICAL ENERGY UTILIZATION SUSTAINABLE ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMThe Green Building Index is fundamentally derived from existing rating tools, including the Singapore Green Mark and the Australian Green Star system, but extensively modified for relevance to the Malaysian tropical weather, environmental context, cultural and social needs.
