By 2050, if current consumption and production patterns remain the same and with
a rising population expected to reach 9.6 billion, we will need
THREE PLANETS to sustain our ways of living and consumption.

Striving for Sustainable Development:
1.0 Origin of Sustainable Development
We have been singing this song of "Sustainable development" with unison voice as I “buy” the real understanding of it from the World Commission on Environment and Development (Brundtland Commission) report published in 1987 that:
"development which meets the needs of current generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs".

3.0 Land use sustainability (LUS) evaluation “Sustainable land use” should simultaneously ensure:
-Productivity: maintaining and enhancing production services; -Stability-Resilience: reducing the level of production risk (security) and enhancing the soil capacity to buffer the degradation processes; -Protection: protecting the potential of natural resources and preventing the soil and water quality degradation; -Viability: economic viability; -Acceptability-Equity: ensuring “social acceptability” and the access to the benefits from improved land management. (Symth & Dumanski, 1993; Dumanski et.al.,1998)
