SUSAN YONKER
My name is Susan Yonker I’m 41 years old. I graduated from Mesa Community College
with my Associates Degree in 1999, went on to graduate from Arizona State University in
2003 with a major in Secondary in Education, and have completed some of my masters
in the School Psychology Program at Ottawa University. I'm the proud mother of two
boys and the wife of a Saint. In the spare time I have we camp, go sand railing at the
sand dunes outside of Yuma Arizona, and I'm an avid reader and writer.

Education My responsibilities as a Blended Learning Teacher include: Curriculum writing, serving as Department Chair, solving problems as the lead teacher and as a team, help with mentoring new teachers and students, goal setting and solving as a team and school. I was also the Literacy Cadre Specialist at the District for my school, I also served on several committees at our school one was to help implement our school into the Title One process another is the Journey 2020 program that looks to the needs of our school as a 10 year program. I served on our school’s showcase night that shows our parents and community all that our school has to offer and our anti-bully program.
As a Language Arts Blended Learning Teacher I helped to begin our Iacademy
(implementing technology) Blended Learning program the first in our district. It has now
spread to half of our school and become very popular in our district. I play a critical role on
an innovative team for a blended learning designed to improve teacher effectiveness and
student academic performance. I use technology to create a learning environment where
students have daily opportunities for individualized learning and have the resources and
time to differentiate small group instruction in my classroom. I also engage students in a
unique one to one Netbook/Chromebooks and Computer lab access. I’m an expert at using
educational technology such as Google Tools and Microsoft products: Google Classroom,
Google Documents, Google Slides, Microsoftt Office 2010 Noodlebib, Prezi, Collaborize
Classroom, Mixbook, Youtube, Movie Maker, and I can create websites along with all the
other mundane computer skills.

I offer support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for supervising students within my
classroom and other assigned areas; developing high level lesson plans and distributing engaging and effective groups an individual
student instruction within established curriculum guidelines. As Department Chair I collaborated with other teachers, other professional
staff , and administrators in addressing effective instructional practices and/or classroom issues (such as bullying problems); grant
writing, title one paper work, and how to respond to a wide range of inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional
program and student progress.

In the blended-learning program, I also had traditional responsibilities that include face-to-face instruction, leading reading
discussions, managing the classroom dynamic, grading assignments, and planning lessons and projects that relate to the students’
online learning. I was also responsible for designing the scope of the learning for all students and creating a learning pathway for
students using the digital software and online content. I also analyzed student data and planning weekly meetings. I worked with
overseeing student progress, answering questions and problems that students might have, and making sure students are staying on
track with their assignments.
SUPERVISOR/DEPARTMENT HEAD (SECONDARY) SUPERVISES: Students and staff assigned to the department NATURE AND
SCOPE OF JOB: Assumes the educational leadership and supervision for the assigned department to ensure that students are
supervised in a safe learning environment and provided instruction that meets and exceeds the State Core Curriculum Content
Standards, following the approved curricula and directives of the school. Achieving academic excellence requires that the
Supervisor/Department Head (Secondary) works collaboratively with the Principal to lead and nurture members of the school staff and
to communicate effectively with parents, members of the community, and colleagues in other districts and schools. Inherent in the
position are the responsibilities within the department for planning, coordination, curriculum development, program evaluation,
personnel management, financial management, and resource scheduling, staff observations and staff evaluations.
ELA Literacy Cadre Coach: A literacy coach is a literacy leader who works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, school board
and department staff to improve student achievement in literacy. The literacy coach provides school -based, job-embedded support for
teachers as they implement effective literacy instructional practices. Literacy coaches support classroom teachers in the
implementation of the provincial curriculum. ‚ Literacy coaches support classroom teachers in making connections between
educational research, theory and classroom practice. ‚ Literacy coaches support classroom teachers in implementation of the research
- based effective instructional practices. Literacy coaches plan cooperatively with teachers and support collaborative interaction
between and among teachers and administrators. ‚ Literacy coaches demonstrate and observe lessons and engage in pre and post
conferences which are intended to provide support for in depth lesson analysis and reflection. Literacy coaches promote the effective
use of authorized program materials, school and classroom resources, and professional resources. Literacy coaches advise and
support schools in the implementation of 1) school development literacy goals and 2) programs which support parental engagement in
support of literacy. Literacy coaches support school teams in the collection and analysis of student literacy achievement data. Literacy
coaches engage in on-going professional development, reflection and practice.
