SURVIVING AN IDENTITY CRISIS

Page 2: Surviving an Identity Crisis, by Michael Mamas

Looking to the surface of life to determine who you are has its value,

but can be detrimental if not handled wisely.

The deeper you rest within yourself, the more stable your sense of self,

the less you need to rely on the surface to define yourself.

The surface of life is totally flexible, ever changing, unstable, and therefore

an unreliable anchor for your sense of self, of self worth.

Through Surya Ram Meditation, we awaken to the depth of our selves,

to our very being.

From time to time in life we doubt what is happening on the surface of our lives… Is my job right for me?  Is my personal life what I want it to be?  Is my life working for me?  When we are overwhelmed by this, it is called an identity crisis.  It is an “I” crisis.

Who/what am I?  What is my value?  What is my purpose?  Is there any purpose?

When in an identity crisis, it is no time to make radical changes.  Yet without a strong sense of the inner self,

it can feel like a strong change is necessary.  We then act out.

During an identity crisis, it is time to look beyond emotions,

to that wise place that lies deep within.

A strong, healthy identity is a sense of inner self… deep within, abstract, intangible, unbounded.

To manage the surface of your life well, you must first discover what lies beyond it.

You are not your job, your looks, your hobbies, or your associations.  The best you can do for all of those things

is to rest upon the inner sense of self that lies deeper than any of those things.

When questioning the surface of your life, do not lose yourself to that storm of emotions.

Look and rest deeper within... upon the inner wisdom that sees beyond circumstances.

The harder you push things away, the more intensely they stick to your psyche.
