Support Process Document

Purpose: How to create a time lapse video using an Axis Camera or

Encoder with Firmware 5 XX

Name Date Revision

D. Cool 12/4/2014 Document Created

The purpose of this document is to describe how to: Create an event for time lapse image capture and

convert to a useable video using an Axis Camera or Encoder with Firmware 5.XX

The following procedure has been tested on: P1346 with Firmware version 5.40.9.5

Introduction A collection of JPEG images are needed in order to create a time lapse video, this will be accomplished

by creating an Event in our Axis P1346 camera. Once enough images have been captured I will utilize

Microsoft’s Movie Maker to create the time lapse video.

Setup the Recipient 1. Log in to the cameras web interface and navigate to Setup -> Events. Once there click on Add

2. Enter data necessary for the P1346 to connect to your storage location. Here I used a Network Share

on my laptop you may also wish to utilize a FTP server for this. Here the initial share folder is “den-test”,

the actual storage folder to be utilized within that folder is “timelapse”.

Create a Recurrence 3. We will need to create a Recurrence in order to capture images at specified times in order to create

our time lapse video. To set a Recurrence up navigate to Events -> Recurrences and click Add

4. I titled the Recurrence 10minute which coincides with its intended purpose of enabling us to capture

an image every 10 minutes. A time interval of hours or days is also available.

Create an Action Rule 5. Now we need to create the Action Rule to actually capture the images needed. Navigate to Setup ->

Events -> Action Rules and click Add.

6. Ensure that checkbox next to “Enable Rule” is checked; name your event as desired. Under Condition

our Trigger will be Time and then choose Recurrence as the sub-trigger (here 10minute was selected by

default as it is the only Recurrence configured). Leave Schedule set to Always unless you desire to only

capture images during certain times (requires that a new Schedule be created under Setup -> Events ->

Schedules). For Actions select Send Images as the Type, Stream Profile will default to JPEG. Set the

Image Frequency to 1 frame per second, ensure Post-trigger is enable and set to 1 second and that Send

only the first 1 images is configured as shown. Select our Recipient and then click OK.

7. Just a screen shot to show what the finalized version of our event looks like.

Collected images 8. After a short period of time check to ensure that setup is working and images are being saved to your

storage location.

Making time lapse video 9. Use the Video creation software of your choice. Here I choose to utilize Microsoft Movie Maker as it

freely available on most Windows installation or can be easily added. Once in Microsoft Movie Maker

browse for the folder where your collected images are located.

10. Select the images you wish to incorporate in to your time lapse video then make desired transition

affects and delay changes in the various menus (some experimenting is recommended as needs vary

between customers)

11. After making the desired transition affects and delays in the various menus as desired then proceed

to save your video. Enjoy your efforts
