The main difference between the fourmodels of M32 series tank periscope is thenight vision system.

a. M32 and M32C Tank Periscopes.Utilize an infrared body assembly. Thesystem requires a 24 V dc power source toenergize the solid power supply, providingelectrical input to the converter regulatorconverting the output to 16,000 volts to theimage intensifier and providing night sightingof targets. Emergency operation in event ofpower failure can be achieved by replacing

Section IV. PRE-EMBARKATION INSPECTION OF MATERIELIN UNITS ALERTED FOR OVERSEAS MOVEMENT

2-12. GENERAL.

Pre-embarkation is performed on materiel inthe hands of troops alerted for overseas du-ty to ensure that such materiel will notbecome unserviceable or worn out in arelatively short time. It prescribes a higherpercentage of remaining usable life in serv-iceable materiel to meet a specific needbeyond minimum serviceability.

2-13. GENERAL INSPECTION.

a. Examine tank periscope to ensure thatall component parts are present. Check par-ticularly for missing pins, screws, and otherattaching hardware.

b. Check exterior for damaged, cracked,or dented surfaces, bent or broken parts, moisture or corrosion, and other evidence ofmisuse that might indicate a need for repair.

c. Inspect all sealed areas to assure thatsealing is still intact.

d. Inspect nameplates to ensure that allnumbering and lettering is clearly definedand easily read.

e. Inspect diopter scales to ensure thatthey are clearly defined and easily read.

f. Inspect for bare spots or damagedfinish which would expose metal surfacesand lead to corrosion.

g. Test alinement and looseness of bodyassemblies by checking periscope latches, strikes, plungers, and brackets.

h. Check that deflection and elevationboresight knob assemblies are firmly seatedagainst clutches.

i. After recording setting of eachboresight knob assembly, disengage knobfrom clutch and rotate it through its com-plete range. Operation must be smooththroughout. When finished, reset knob toposition recorded before disengaging.

NOTEAttempt to position the tankperiscope on as level a planeas conditions permit. Deviationfrom this level plane will affectthe mil value obtained. Thischeck will normally suffice fordetermining parallelism of thereticle and image.

d. Parallelism of Reticle and Image. Lookthrough the daylight body assembly at atarget with sharp horizontal and vertical linessuch as a building at a distance of 1200meters (3937 feet). The lines on the targetshould be parallel with the lines on the reti-cle image in the daylight body assemblywithin two mils of arc. Repeat this checklooking through eyepiece of the elbowassembly.

NOTESteps e thru g below pertainto the elbow assembly only.

e. Shutter Assembly Switch. Connecttank periscope to a 24 V dc power source

and at light conditions that simulate dawn ordusk, turn shutter assembly switch ON.Look into the eyepiece and make sure thatan image is visible. If needed, rotate TUBEcontrol knob clockwise from LO to HI untilan image appears.

f. TUBE Control Knob. With tankperiscope connected to a power source andthe shutter assembly switch ON, rotateTUBE control knob clockwise throughout itsrange from LO to HI while observing imagethrough the eyepiece. Be sure that the lightlevel increases and decreases as the TUBEcontrol knob is turned clockwise andcounterclockwise, respectively.

g. RETICLE Control Knob. With tankperiscope connected to a power source andthe shutter assembly switch ON, rotate theRETICLE control knob clockwise from OFFand LO to HI. The image of the reticleshould appear as you look into the eyepiece. The image should grow brighter as yourotate the RETICLE control knob towards HI,become dimmer as you return to LO, anddisappear when you turn it OFF.

Liberated Manuals -- free army and government manuals

Why do I do it? I am tired of sleazy CD-ROM sellers, who take publicly available information, slap “watermarks” and other junk on it, and sell it. Those masters of search engine manipulation make sure that their sites that sell free information, come up first in search engines. They did not create it... They did not even scan it... Why should they get your money? Why are not letting you give those free manuals to your friends?

I am setting this document FREE. This document was made by the US Government and is NOT protected by Copyright. Feel free to share, republish, sell and so on.

I am not asking you for donations, fees or handouts. If you can, please provide a link to liberatedmanuals.com, so that free manuals come up first in search engines:
