Today’s reading from the Gospel of Luke offers us the first words of Jesus as he begins his public ministry. The words reflect his understanding of his Spirit-anointed mission. His words are his “Mission Statement.” Good stewards rejoice in being followers of Jesus. They realize that Jesus’ com�mission is their commission as well. They em-brace it and adopt it as their own. We, too, have “glad tidings” to bring to a suffering world. LENT Ash Wednesday is February 10th
Liturgies are: 6 am, 9 am, & 5:30 pm
This year every Friday during Lent we will again be celebrating the Stations of the Cross at 5:30 pm with our cohort parish, St. Anthony, followed by Mass at 6:15 pm, and a fish fry.
Ash Wednesday (Feb 10th) and Good Friday (March 25th) are days of complete fast and abstinence. Other Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence.
Fast: Binds all those over 18 and under 59 years of age: only one full meal is allowed, with the quanti-ty of that other two meals not exceeding that of the full meal; eating between meals is not permit-ted.
Abstinence: Binds all over the age of 14; no meat is allowed.

St. Christopher School is having an open house on Sunday, January 31st from 11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. We will be accepting registration for Pre K through 6th grade.
Pre-K students must be four years old by August 1, 2016. Teachers, staff, parents & students will be available to conduct tours & answer questions. We accept the Indiana Choice Voucher & the Institute for Quality Education Grant. We need a copy of your child’s birth certificate & immunization record with the registration. St. Vincent De Paul When you do something to help
someone it makes you feel better in-side!
There will be a SVdP "5th Sunday" Collection after all Masses next Sun-day, Jan 31st. Volunteers will be at the doors of Church to accept your donations that
will be used to help families in our area living in pov-erty.
Bridges Out of Poverty; Changing Lives Forev-er is a joint effort with Saint Anthony, Saint Chris-topher, Saint Gabriel and Saint Michael SVdP Con-ferences to provide long term help. This training is a Facilitator supported group based study program conducted by 12 "Investigators" - people who have decided to improve their lives in any of (11) areas - such as financial, spiritual, mental, etc. and move away from government and other assistance.
The training started in Nov, 2015 at Saint Christo-pher!
We continue to need Mentors (training will be pro-vided).
We plan to start Monday evening class in April and will also again need Mentors, meals and childcare volunteers for that class.

Message from Fr. Dan
Dear St. Christopher Parish, On January 1, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued his historic Eman-cipation Proclamation which freed every slave in the Rebel South. It was a landmark event in our nation's history. For almost a century, slavery had been a stain on the American claim to be "the land of the free and the home of the brave." Freedom, it seemed, was only granted to those deemed by the majority to deserve it. Apparently, it was not self-evident that "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unaliena-ble Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." It took 87 years of suffering, 4 years of civil war, and the death of 620,000 men to make such an obvious fact a reality. And even then, the fight for
equality was not over. A couple of amendments to the Constitution, countless civil rights move-ments, and decades of prayer were needed to fully realize what should have been "self-evident" from the beginning. 87 years. Then another 87 and more. That's a long time. But for those who believe in what's right, it’s worth the wait. It’s worth the long fight. Its worth enduring. Because, in the end, the right always prevails. Now for another history lesson. On January 22, 1973, the US Supreme Court affirmed the right of women to have an abortion. In that landmark event, a new stain appeared on the star-spangled banner of America. But this time, it was not freedom that was at stake, but the right to life itself. Life, it seemed, was only granted to those deemed by the majority to deserve it. Again, it was apparently not self-evident that "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pur-suit of Happiness!" And it’s been 43 years. 43 years of the same tired rhetoric. 43 years of prayers. 43 years of marching on Washington DC in the largest display of protest in our nation's capital each and every year. 43 years of being ignored. 43 years of not being recognized. 43 years of frustration and anger and--dare I say it--growing indifference. But we will not stop! We cannot stop! Because for those who believe in the right, it’s worth the wait! Its worth these 43 years and the next 43 and the next 43 after that, if needed! It’s worth remembering the countless millions of innocence who never even had the chance to know what freedom or the pursuit of happiness looks like. It’s worth believing and hoping that some-day the right to life will once again be a self-evident reality. But until then, we fight the long fight. Until then, we march on. So, as the youth of our parish return home from the 43rd March for Life in Washington DC this weekend, pray for them. Pray for our nation. Pray for the frightened mothers who feel helpless and alone. Pray for a conversion of hearts. Pray for a miracle. Pray that we may actual-ly become "one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all." Because in the end, the right always prevails.
