Training the Informatics Research Workforce, Part 2: Fostering Interdisciplinarity For more than 40 years, universities have offered training in biomedical informatics. From the four programs funded by the National Library of Medicine in 1972 that trained physicians to use computers to solve information management problems, informatics training has become broader and more diversified, ranging from certificate programs to post-doctoral fellowships.
