Hymn ‘On Eagles’ Wings’ 1. You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord,

who abide in his shadow for life, say to the Lord: “My refuge my rock in whom I trust!”

Refrain: And he will raise you up on eagle’s wings,

bear you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of his hand.

2. Snares of the fowler will never capture you,

and famine will bring you no fear: under his wings you refuge, this faithfulness your shield.

Refrain 3. You need not fear the terror of the night,

nor the arrow that flies by day; though thousands fall about you, near you it shall not come.

Refrain 4. For to his angels he’s given a command

to guard you in all of your ways; upon their hands they will bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

Refrain

The Collect Officiant: ALMIGHTY God, unto whom all hearts be open, all

desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love thee, and worthily magnify thy holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Officiant: OUR Lord Jesus Christ said: Hear O Israel, The Lord

our God is one Lord; and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it:

Officiant: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these

two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.

People: Lord, have mercy upon us, and write both these

thy laws in our hearts, we beseech thee. Lord, have mercy upon us. Christ, have mercy upon us. Lord, have mercy upon us. Officiant: The Lord be with you; People: And with thy spirit. Officiant: Let us pray.

Page 8: Sunday, March 7, 2021

Collect for the Day Officiant: Father of mercy,

alone we have no power in ourselves to help ourselves. When we are discouraged by our weakness, strengthen us to follow Christ, our pattern and our hope; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Reading Exodus 20:1-17 Reader: The Lesson is written in the 20th chapter of Exodus,

beginning at the 1st verse. Then God spoke all these words: I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; you shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me, but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments. You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name.

Remember the sabbath day, and keep it holy. For six days you shall labour and do all your work. But the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work—you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave, your livestock, or the alien resident in your towns. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and consecrated it. Honour your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you. You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour. You shall not covet your neighbour’s house; you shall not covet your neighbour’s wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour. Reader: Here endeth the Lesson. (Silence as a bell is rung)

Epistle 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 Reader: The Epistle is written in the first chapter of St. Paul’s

first letter to the Corinthians, beginning at the 18th verse.

For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, ‘I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.’ Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, God decided, through the foolishness of our proclamation, to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks desire wisdom, but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling-block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God’s weakness is stronger than human strength. Reader: Here endeth the Epistle. (Silence as a bell is rung)

Gospel John 2:13-22 Gospeller: The Holy Gospel is written in the 2nd chapter

of the Gospel according to St. John, beginning at the 13th verse.

People: Glory be to thee, O Lord. The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple he found people selling cattle, sheep, and doves, and the money-changers seated at their tables. Making a whip of cords, he drove all of them out of the temple, both the sheep and the cattle. He also poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. He told those who were selling the doves, ‘Take these things out of here! Stop making my Father’s house a market-place!’ His disciples remembered that it was written, ‘Zeal for your house will consume me.’ The Jews then said to him, ‘What sign can you show us for doing this?’ Jesus answered them, ‘Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.’ The Jews then said, ‘This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and will you raise it up in three days?’ But he was speaking of the temple of his body. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this; and they believed the scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken. Gospeller: The Gospel of Christ. People: Praise be to thee, O Christ. Homily The Rev. Maria Nightingale

The Creed Together: I BELIEVE in one God the Father Almighty,

Maker of heaven and earth, And of all things visible and invisible:

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten

Son of God, Begotten of the Father before all worlds; God, of God; Light, of Light;

Very God, of very God;

Begotten, not made; Being of one substance with the Father; Through whom all things were made:

Who for us and for our salvation came down

from heaven, And was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, And was made man, And was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.

He suffered and was buried,

And the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, And ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of the Father. And he shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the dead: Whose kingdom shall have no end.

Page 13: Sunday, March 7, 2021

All: And I believe in the Holy Ghost, The Lord, The Giver of Life, Who proceedeth from the Father and the Son, Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified, Who spake by the Prophets. And I believe One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins. And I look for the Resurrection of the dead, And the Life of the world to come. Amen.

Officiant: The peace of the Lord be always with you; People: And with thy spirit. Hymn ‘Precious Lord, Take My Hand’ 1. Precious Lord, take my hand,

lead me on, let me stand; I am tired, I am weak, I am worn; through the storm, through the night, lead me on to the light: take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.

2. When my way grow drear,

precious Lord, linger near; when my life is almost gone, hear my cry, hear my call, hold my hand lest I fall: take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.

Page 14: Sunday, March 7, 2021

3. When the darkness appears and the night draws near, and the day is past and gone, at the river I stand; guide my feet, hold my hand: take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.

We beseech thee also to lead all nations in the way of

righteousness; and so to guide and direct their governors and rulers, that thy people may enjoy the blessings of freedom and peace: And grant unto thy servant ELIZABETH our Queen, and to all that are put in authority under her, that they may truly and impartially administer justice, to the maintenance of thy true religion and virtue.
