To say, Thanksor Thank youis a hard word for people to express in any event, because it is not common in some culture. In fact, Thank youis a common word that we use frequently as a gesture to convey an intention meaningfully than anything else. Sometimes, we may realise that instead of thanking people, we make excuses or keep silence. Clearly, thank youis an expression of human characteristics that uplift our human relationships whenever situations happen where we belong. Indeed, as Christians, we have experienced it along the way in our life, as a humility to say thanks. We read in the Gospel story the ten lepers were cured by our Lord Jesus Christ. In Jesus time lepers were ritually impure and made to live some distance in an isolated suburb outside the main town. Until today, in some parts of the world lepers are treated as outcasts and are unclean, excluded from the general community. But, St Luke tells us an extraordinary story after leper were cured, nine of them ran back overjoyed to their families NOT thanking Jesus Christ. Only one returns with joy to thank Jesus. He was cured not only of his health; it brings him to God through his believe and faith. Not only he was suffering from the leprosy, but he was a Samaritan. Samaritans were mixed race people from the north of Israel who were thought of as inferior and hated by the Jews of the south. The lepers took a risk to beg for inclusion, expressed in mercy; and Jesus does not reject untouchables. He heals them and were welcomed back to the temple and to the community. The Samaritan became the source of healing and has the humility to return and praise God. What a wonderful lesson Luke is asking us to be Samaritans. We are challenged as faithful to make a list of untouchables in our modern time especially to people who are indifference to us. We may be suffering from leprosy, not necessarily physical, but also spiritual. We need to take the challenges to ourselves to evangelise and to keep the door open to Christ, especially to those who do not know God. It is our Christian duty to show those people that there is God who is for everybody. Through the gift of faith, we need to pray in our hearts, homes and to attend Mass, because Eucharistmeans thanksgiving. If we do so, we will be in debt to God and other people. Sunday, 13 Oct 2019: Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year C

Our Parish Mission Statement Mary, Queen of the Family Parish is a welcoming, diverse, multicultural, Catholic community.

We seek: to live, teach and share the joy of the Gospel; to grow as disciples of Jesus through prayer, witness and action and to respond to the needs of the family in the Blacktown community and beyond.

To say, “Thanks” or ‘Thank you” is a hard word for people to express in any event, because it is not common in some culture. In fact, “Thank you” is a common word that we use frequently as a gesture to convey an intention meaningfully than anything else. Sometimes, we may realise that instead of thanking people, we make excuses or keep silence. Clearly, “thank you” is an expression of human characteristics that uplift our human relationships whenever situations happen where we belong. Indeed, as Christians, we have experienced it along the way in our life, as a humility to say “thanks.” We read in the Gospel story the ten lepers were cured by our Lord Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ time lepers were ritually impure and made to live some distance in an isolated suburb outside the main town. We may be suffering from

leprosy, not necessarily physical, but also spiritual. We need to take the challenges to ourselves to evangelise and to keep the door open to Christ, especially to those who do not know God. It is our Christian duty to show those people that there is God who is for everybody. Through the gift of faith, we need to pray in our hearts, homes

and to attend Mass, because “Eucharist” means thanksgiving. If we do so, we will be in debt to God and other

people. Deacon John

ENTRANCE ANTIPHON: Psalm 129:3-4

If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand? But with you is found forgiveness, O God of Israel. FIRST READING: 2 KGS 5:14-17 RESPONSORIAL PSALM: PS 97:1-4 R. SEE V.2 The Lord has revealed to the nations his saving power. SECOND READING: 2 TM 2:8-13 GOSPEL ACCLAMATION: 1 Thes 5:18 Alleluia, alleluia! For all things give thanks to God, because this is what he expects of you in Christ Jesus. Alleluia! GOSPEL: Lk 17:11-19 On the way to Jerusalem Jesus travelled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered one of the villages, ten lepers came to meet him. They stood some way off and called to him, ‘Jesus! Master! Take pity on us.’ When he saw them he said, ‘Go and show yourselves to the priests.’ Now as they were going away they were cleansed. Finding himself cured, one of them turned back praising God at the top of his voice and threw himself at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. The man was a Samaritan. This made Jesus say, ‘Were not all ten made clean? The other nine, where are they? It seems that no one has come back to give praise to God, except this foreigner.’ And he said to the man, ‘Stand up and go on your way. Your faith has saved you. COMMUNION ANTIPHON: Cf. Ps 33:11 The rich will suffer want and go hungry, but those who seek the lord lack no blessing.
