At Elim Park we believe in pursuing an abun-dant life for you. Love for people and a passion for growth motivates us to strive for excel-lence, and I’ve been blessed to see the fruit of this dedication play out over the years.

In 2002 Elim Park set the tone in the Connecticut Life Plan Community landscape with a high quality dining experience. When we opened the Park Place Dining Room and Jazzman’s Café, people from communities around the country came to learn about what we were doing.

Twelve years later a new vision was cast for the future. That future has arrived. After twenty-two months and two phases of construction, the Conservatory Restaurant and Market are open. Once again, we are reinvent-ing culinary creations at Elim Park.

I want to thank the residents who patient-ly waited through months of construction, believing that the Oasis project would deliver benefit to themselves and to future genera-tions of residents. And thank you to the many people who contributed financially.

Now is the perfect time for you to visit and enjoy three new culinary settings with us—The Conservatory for contemporary formal dining, The Spring House Bistro for casual dining, and the Elim Park Baking Company café and bakery. We can’t wait to meet and introduce you to the Elim Park family.

Cheshire’s Not-For-Profit Nationally Accredited Life Plan Community

Elim Park draws its name from a Bible story depicting the people of Israel escaping from slavery in Egypt. As they ventured into the desert divid-ing Egypt from Israel, they came to Elim, an oasis with twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they em-camped there.

This image of refuge and rejuvena-tion is one Elim Park strives to embody. We want to be a place where people come to be refreshed, grow, and plan for the future. When the community began to expand beyond the capacity of the existing dining venues, we craft-ed a new plan for culinary creations at Elim Park. Oasis seemed a fitting title for the project.

A Message from Rob Cota, Administrator of Independent Living

You Have Arrived at the OasisNow you can experience the

Oasis for yourself. The people who call Elim Park home have patiently waited through two phases of construction stretching over twenty-two months, and they’re saying the wait was well worth it.

We hope that when you visit, you’ll recognize not only the visible improvements but the culture that drove them. Change is an opportunity to grow, and that’s what this commu-

nity is all about—planning today for a brighter

tomorrow.

You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of your inheritance—the place, LORD, you made for your dwelling, the sanctuary, Lord,

your hands established. —Exodus 15:17

Rick Loose loves to work. Thirty-two years ago he learned how to spin—a craft that involves making round metal parts on a lathe. Now

he and his son run a machine shop together. They help preserve their craft while making airplane parts and outdoor lighting fixtures. “Other

people like to go out and spend their days playing golf,” Rick says. “I’m not say-ing there’s anything wrong with that, it just wouldn’t work for me. I love working.”

Rick and his wife, Carol, are residents of Elim Park’s Spring Meadow neighborhood. They live in a spacious, customized apartment that everyone describes as gorgeous. While Rick prefers to continue running his machine shop, Carol transitioned to retirement and fills her days with social engagements and man-aging the Elim Park Place tag sale.

Cheshire has been the Looses’ home for years. Like other residents who moved from nearby, the Looses used to drive by Elim Park and joke, “One day we’ll be living there.” The comment turned out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The Looses made the decision to move to Elim Park after observing the

choices made by their own parents. Carol’s parents, who lived in California, found a community similar to Elim Park and thrived. Rick’s parents resisted the idea of leaving their home until nursing home care was their only option. “Better three years too early than three years too late,” Rick quotes. Carol nods and adds, “There’s truth to that.”

As they entered their sixties, the Looses knew they wanted to decide where to move. Carol credits their beautiful apartment to their forward thinking, saying they wanted everything to be “just so,” and did a lot of the custom-ization themselves. Their active lifestyle and the timing of their move enabled them to put in the effort required to build the

home they wanted.“There are a lot of misconceptions about this type

of community,” Carol says, “but some of our friends are coming around and adjusting their thinking.” After experiencing it for themselves the Looses’ know

Elim Park isn’t designed as a place to slow down. It’s a vibrant community that emphasizes social, physical, intel-lectual, and spiritual growth.

“I guess I’m at the point that I could walk away,” Rick says of his machine shop, “but I don’t want to because I love it so much.”

Elim Park’s renowned performing arts theater is keeping pace with all the other exciting changes in the Elim Park community. Come enjoy Nelson Hall’s new box office, lobby, and concession stand. You’ll feel like you’re stepping into the Old Hollywood of the 1940s when you walk under the vin-tage marquee leading to the theater.

The lineup of performances for Nelson Hall’s 2016-2017 season will appeal to even the most selective connoisseurs of performing arts. Mark your calendar now for the Nelson Hall Gala fundraising event in March 2017 featuring Anthony Kearns of the Irish Tenors. Call 203.699.5495 to get more information or reserve tickets.
