Their journey Share the story of Snail and the Whale again. The whale and the snail visited lots of exciting places and saw very interesting things on their journey. Challenge: Can you write a list of all the things places that they visited? REMEMBER children are not expected to spell these words correctly, they should use their phonics to write the sounds they can hear in the words in sequence. Grownups remind/ discuss with your child that when writing a list, we just need to write the key words and we must write them one underneath each other.

Story map making Share and recap the story of Snail and the Whale. In class we often draw story maps to help us retell the story. Challenge: Can you draw your own story map to help you remember what happened. Use your map to retell the story to a grown up. Maybe they could record it and upload it to ILD.

Where would you go? Share and recap the story of Snail and the Whale. The snail had wonderful adventures with his new friend. Imagine you were the snail who hitched a ride with the whale where would you like to visit? Challenge: Can you draw a picture of where you would like to go if you hitched a ride with a whale. Write a couple of sentences to describe where you have gone.

Create your own Fact file Watch this video to find out some facts about whales. All about whales With your grown up you could use books or the internet to find out more facts about them. Challenge: Can you write a fact sheet all about whales. You might want to find out some of the following: Where they live? How big they are? What they eat

Summer Term Week 7 – Maths – Halving and Sharing

Maths Tasks

Number blocks

Number Blocks Halving

In this Numberblocks episode Learn up to halve with the Numberblocks. After watching the episode give children two plates, one fot them and one for you. Put some on their plate and then more on yours, ask them if this is fair? What will they do to try and make it fair, how will they overcome the problem?

Halving

You will need: small objects (beads,

pasta, counters) Part Part Whole

model from pack.

Place an even number of objects into the large circle

on the Part Part Whole model. Can the children split

the number in half by alternating placing one in the part circles. Repeat for other

numbers.

You can practise halving objects while making lunch, can they share the crisps,

sandwiches pieces of fruit in the fruit bowl?

Can they make it fair?

Teddy Bears Picnic You will need:

teddies or soft toys 2 plates selection of objects/

food Provide the children with two teddies and plates, can they share out the objects and food so that each teddy gets the same. What happens if another teddy joins the party, can they now share the food between the three teddies. They may have some left over, what do they suggest to do with what is left?

Doubles dice You will need:

Minibeast sharing sheet. (If you cannot print please just use the same number of objects as suggested in the sheet.

Have a look at the minibeat sheet. We need to share the leaves fairly between the insects so that they all have something to eat? How can we make sure it is fair? Maybe you can make your own sharing problems and use your mathematical jottings to show your workings out.

ICT game Fair Shares Sharing Game Can you help George share the dog treats. https://pbskids.org/curiousgeorge/busyday/dogs/

Phonics Phonics Tasks

The Department for Education is providing Letters and Sounds Phonics lessons online for children in Reception and Year 1. A letter outlining the details of this can be found in the Parental Support tab on our Home Learning Page. The Reception phonic lesson begins at 10am every day and there is an additional session at 11am if your child needs extra support with their blending. After watching each lesson we would ask you to hear your child read and encourage them to practise their blending skills. The lessons can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP_FbjYUP_UtldV2K_-niWw/channels?view_as=public The videos will continue to be available on the website after they have been uploaded so that you may access them at a time that is convenient to you
