Year 6 – Summer 2 nd Half Term Week 1 Hello to you all. We hope that you have had a restful half-term and are looking forward to receiving some more tasks, challenges and activities to you through the coming days and weeks. Below we have set out daily mathematics and English work followed by some topic choices. English The home learning tasks for English this half term will look a little bit different to the way they have been presented in previous weeks. You should now have completed all of the tasks in the revision guides that we sent home – Please keep the revision guides safe, as we will be collecting those back in; as soon as it is safe to do so. Remember that the example has been made by children who are NOT in Year 6, so yours needs to be much more detailed than this one! Maths Our last maths lessons in school were learning about ratio- therefore, now you have completed the revision guides, this is a logical place to start our learning from. Ratios are simply a way to compare numbers or quantities. They tell us how much there is of one thing compared to another. Watch the interactive video ‘The two worlds of A Midsummer Night’s dream’.

Listen to the music and think about which theme represents the humans and which the fairies. Pause the video at 1:19 and write why you have made that choice. Try and use musical vocabulary to explain your choices (use the box underneath to help you).

Answer the questions on the video with the help of the vocabulary box. Musical Vocabulary: Tempo – how quick or slow the music is Pitch – how high or low the notes are Timbre – the quality of the sound Dynamics – how loud or quiet the music is

Ratio Challenge: Pumpkin Pie Problem Peter, the pumpkin eater, wanted to make two pies for a party. His mother, a professional pie

maker, had a recipe for him to use. However, she always made 80 pies at a time. She used:

10 dozen eggs

27 litres of condensed milk

480 tablespoons of sugar

100 teaspoons of cinnamon

140 cups of pumpkin

Peter looked in the cupboard and found:

4 cups of pumpkin

2 eggs

112 teaspoons of cinnamon

23 of a litre of condensed milk

15 tablespoons of sugar

Did Peter have enough ingredients to make two pumpkin pies for the party or did he need to buy more?
