headlines We are delighted to announce that all of our Year 8 have done so incredibly
well with their Common Entrance exams, including Alistair’s Music Scholarship
to Sevenoaks and Amelie’s Art Scholarship to Mayfield. Not only did all pupils
achieve their first choice schools but their grades are very strong and hold
them in good stead for the future, so that they can all start their new school
secure in their achievements. Year 8 are now enjoying their trip to Rockley,
we look forward to their return today.
We had bronze, silver and gold winners at the recent Independent Schools
Athletics Association’s regional qualifiers– well done to all our competitors
and especially to Luca, Rufus, Sam and Abi.
Today we marked the opening of our indoor pool by The Rt Hon Greg Clark
MP. The pool has enabled curriculum enrichment both with sport and
personal development of a life skill.
Can I remind parents of our Future Schools Information Booklet which details information about the neces-
sary next steps , it is also saved in the Parent Portal. https://www.rosehillschool.co.uk/assets/

Future schools Information from Kent Selection Tests: Secondary Transfer for September 2019
Grammar School Assessment
Any Year 5 pupil who is interested in a Kent grammar school place for September 2019 MUST REGISTER to
take part in the September 2018 tests. Registration opens on Fri 1 June 2018 and closes on Monday 2 July.
Parents can register their child online, at www.kent.gov.uk/ola , or they can fill in a paper form and return
it through their primary school or direct to the Admissions Team at Sessions House. NB: Parents registering
online should take particular care that they select the correct primary school, and not one with a similar
name! If they name the wrong school the error may not be spotted before tests are overprinted and des-
patched.
Parents who have registered online and given a valid e-mail address will be notified of their child’s assess-
ment by e-mail on the afternoon of 11 October.
E-safety– gaming addiction
Gaming becomes the latest addiction
The World Health Organisation's classification of gaming disorder as a condition which is capable of debil-
itating addiction is an important moment in the shifting relationship between technology and society.

La journee Francaise
On Monday, 25th June, Rose Hill will once again go French for the day.
Year 8 will start proceedings early with the bureau de change in the Quad. Pupils are asked to bring a
£1.00 coin to school, so that they can exchange it for a Euro.
In assembly we shall be celebrating the exploits of the super hero ‘Geronimo the Giraffe’ on this year’s
residential trip.
Prep school break will be extended by 15 minutes as pupils spend their euro and order (in French) ‘un pain
au chocolat’ and ‘un Diabolo’ drink from one of the highly trained and professional Year 6 French waiters
or waitresses.
During Pre-Prep break, Kindergarten and Reception pupils will be treated to a mini pain au chocolat on
the grass adjacent to the astro-turf. Years 1 and 2 will be served by the Year 6 waiters on the Staff Lawn.
Patrons of this year’s café will be entertained by street entertainers and buskers. They will also be joined by
caricature artists sketching those who are brave enough to undertake a very public sitting!
Throughout the day, staff will be adding a French flavour to their lessons.
At lunchtime the children will be treated to a Croque Monsieur and other French delicacies. Each table
will feature a menu designed and produced by a Year 3 pupil. The menus will be judged with awards go-
ing to the most impressive.
On the day, all children should wear smart, casual dress with at least one of the tricolour colours: bleu,
blanc, rouge (No uniforms, no football shirts, no make-up etc.)
PUPILS ARE REMINDED TO BRING TO BRING £1.00
Merci bien et bonne journée

ANNUAL ART EXHIBITION We have had a spectacular year of Art at Rose Hill School, which has included our first House Art Competi-
tion and creating our mural. As part of the Summer Fair and the Annual Summer Art Exhibition this year we
have a special 'Nature' art exhibition in the double classrooms. Every child in the school will have one
piece of artwork framed and displayed. You will have the opportunity to purchase this framed artwork.
You may also order copies of the artwork, note cards or bags with the artwork on the day. If you miss the
Summer Fair you still have the opportunity to order your framed artwork until Friday 29 June by emailing
your order directly to Emma Dunning at [email protected]. All final orders will be delivered to
school on Tuesday 10 July.
All pupils have contributed to the 'Forget me not' installation which is now be displayed outside Reception
- a collaborative piece of art produced by the all pupils of Rose Hill School to help raise awareness of the
Hospice in the Weald campaign in conjunction with the Non Uniform charity day on the 18th of May this
year. It is a big log with individual clay flower made by each pupil and Year 8s birds (animals which will fly
off to the next stage, senior school).
On Thursday 14th June, Y8 went on an historical walking tour of Tunbridge Wells. We started in the Pantiles
and visited the site of the Chalybeate Spring. From here, we walked up Mount Sion and entered Grove
Park- Tunbridge Wells’ oldest park. We then entered Calvary Park via Mountfield Road and made good
use of the play area and café. We moved on to the Museum after admiring the building style of Decimus
Burton. We explored the Museum exhibits before walking on to the original Rose Hill school building. Be-
cause of the heavy drizzle, we abandoned the last part of the walk and the school mini bus arrived to re-
turn us to school.

U11 IAPS ROUNDERS All the girls in Year 6 took part in the
U11 IAPS Rounders tournament at
Holmewood House on Wednesday
20th June.
We played matches against teams
from Hazelwood, Sutton Valence and
Dulwich Prep. Everyone got to play at
least two of the matches and every-
one did some excellent fielding and
batting. We unfortunately lost all our
matches (one of which was only a
rounder difference!) but everyone had
a fun time and showed some excellent
teamwork.
Well done to everyone.

Athletes thrive at athletics championships On Friday 15th July, 28 pupils from Rose Hill School travelled to the Julie Rose stadium in Ashford to com-
pete in the Independent Schools Athletics Association’s regional qualifiers. The event sees over 20 schools
and 300 athletes compete in a range of disciplines for the right to be named Kent Champion and to
qualify for the National’s in Birmingham.
Competition is always very tough and the event is attended by some schools that are much bigger than
ourselves. Having said this our pupils were a credit to the school not only in terms of their performances but
also their conduct, behaviour and sportsmanship.
This year we managed to secure more medals than last year, winning 6 in total. Medal winners included:
Abi O - U13 Girls High Jump - Gold
Alfie T - U12 Boy’s Long Jump - Gold
Sam H - U13 Boys’ Javelin - Silver
Rufus HS - U13 Boys Discus - Silver
Luca C - U12 Boys’ 800m - Bronze
Matty D - U12 Boys’ 70m Hurdles - Bronze
In additional Abi, Alfie and Sam have qualified for the Finals in July
Well done to everyone who took part. We are all very proud of you!
