INTERVIEWS FOR MARAZION CLASS
Today we are holding the interviews for the maternity cover for Mrs Allen in Marazion. We have four
strong candidates so are confident of appointing a very good teacher
for the next academic year.
INTERHOUSE FIVE-ASIDE FOOTBALL LEAGUE
(PENDENNIS 3-3 ST MAWES) The inaugural match of the 4th
Interhouse Five-a-side Football League produced a six-goal thriller. St Mawes
captain Nic R gave his side a surprise lead early on before Sid W equalised less than
a minute later. Sid scored again for Pendennis before Jake S finished off a
long range effort for St Mawes. An own goal saw Pendennis lead 3-2 heading into
the final minute before Nic secured a point for his side with what was the final
kick of the game.

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING IN CLASS THIS WEEK
Gunwalloe Gunwalloe have had a very busy week continuing to write their secret garden stories and trying to think of exciting descriptive words to use.
All the children showed Miss Foster how clever they are in their phonics by writing words with phrase 3 sounds in them with amazing results. In maths, we have continued our work on 3D shapes, looking
around the school for objects and matching them to the shape names. In ICT, we have been learning about how to use the keyboard for numbers, spaces and capital letters when labelling our work. A big
part of our week was spent creating a little something special for a very important person in our families.
Have a great weekend to all our dads - Happy Father's Day!
Marazion Firstly I must start this week’s news by congratulating the children on their efforts in the phonics screening check. The children all put 100% into their phonics check and we couldn’t be more proud of them. In literacy, we have been learning to add –s or -es to the end of words,
and then tried to include these words in sentences. We have also learnt about adding the suffixes –er and –est to the end of adjectives. During maths, we have been learning about odd and even numbers
by learning the song Odd Todd and Even Steve. We have also counted in 2s and practised recording the two times table. In computing, we have programmed pixies to navigate forwards, backwards, left and
right. The children then progressed to programme the pixies to different types of tree leaves. In science, we have been learning how
to identify deciduous and evergreen trees.
Sennen This week our literacy has been divided into two parts. We have been finishing off our non-chronological reports about wolves and turning
them into information posters. Towards the end of the week, we have been looking at shape poetry. We have been thinking about
similes and alliteration linked to ocean creatures. The next stage is to collate all our ideas and form them into a poem which is written in the shape of our chosen creature. In maths, we have been learning
about telling the time. Our ideal outcome is to be able to tell the time to the quarter hour, but to the nearest five minutes would be even better. It's been very practical with all of the children having their
own clock to use. At the moment, we aren't looking at digital times so if you have an analogue clock at home, please give your child some
practice if you can. It's been a week full of science, too. We have been learning about the sequence of a plant's life cycle and the
reproductive parts of a flowering plant. In art, we have completed our dragon masks and made something for a certain upcoming
celebration. Our cricket sessions have now finished so PE will now revert to a Monday with outdoor games if the weather is kind to us.
Godrevy This week in mathematics, we have been comparing, ordering, adding
and subtracting fractions. We have learnt that the bigger the denominator the smaller the fraction! We have also learnt that we
only add or subtract the numerators when the denominators are the same. In English, we have written formal letters of thank you to
Trebah for organising and hosting our fantastic D-Day trip where we danced the jitterbug to an enormous audience. We have also learnt about the features of a recount and have written a one of our trip to Trebah. In art, we have designed our Canopic jars that we are going
to make out of clay later on today with Mrs Bailey. We have also made a card for that special person in our lives. Please look out for it
and ensure it gets to the recipient marked clearly on the card! In music, the class have been learning Tango Hideaway using the bass parts and melody. In science, the class have been looking at gender stereotyping through pictures and storytelling. We have also started to look at the physical differences between male and female body
parts, and returned to our bean-growing project, continuing to represent the different groups’ data on a collective graph.
Porthmeor This week in Porthmeor’s maths sessions, we have worked on finding fractions of quantities with Mrs Trinder, and have learnt to plot and
translate with co-ordinates with Mrs Bailey. In literacy, and topic time we have really enjoyed developing "Did you know?" questions about
plastic pollution and creating posters about the effects of global warming on our planet. We have also used the text of The
Highwayman poem, to find information about the characters and have started to experiment with some drama and role play. In PE we
enjoyed a running and catching session, practising passing on the move. In science, we started to learn about liquids, solids and gases,
and had to identify examples of each.
Kynance With Bikeability and swimming this week, Kynance has been a rather
disrupted class. Despite this, the classmates began a maths/craft challenge involving making scale models of the school building and its
classrooms. Once the layout had been reduced to the correct scale, the teams went about using photographs of the classes to create a miniature version! They look very good! When not producing mini
rooms, the classmates had the opportunity to continue on their music videos, and spend another afternoon enjoying dodgeball. In
two two-and-a-half-day sessions, the year six children (with the able assistance of Karen and Angie) have been working with Martin Beck to pass their Bikeability qualifications and learn how to safely ride a bike on the road. They are still continuing this (last group will finish
on Monday) and so there will be an update next week.
