Cooking is fun and rewarding! Not only do campers get to eat, but they will also: strengthen math skills, improve reading

comprehension, and build problem-solving skills–painlessly along the way--all natural elements of cooking.

We will be making Gnocchi, Wantons, risotto and more! Each day we will prepare a meal from appetizers to desserts. Campers will be consuming their creations so please let us know of any allergies or concerns before the first class.

June 6th - 10th Addition/Subtraction Math Facts: Is your student still counting on fingers to solve addition and subtraction facts? Have your child join me June 6th - 10th to work on automaticity of numbers 1-12 basic facts. Our day will be filled with math games, money games, and real life scenarios. Students will learn test taking strategies, how to process through word problems, and how to gear their higher level thinking skills towards new concepts. The incorporation of play will show students that math can truly be fun. Most importantly, it will boost student self esteem and promote achievement in their upcoming school year. June 13th - 17th Multiplication/Division Math Facts: Automaticity of multiplication/division facts in 3rd-5th grade is essential for student success. In 4th grade, math classes build on the idea that each student has already mastered multiplication/division facts 1-12. This camp will focus on various ways to memorize these facts quickly and efficiently. Students will practice through math games; learn how to solve word problems, practice with money, test taking strategies, and how division and multiplication relate to real-world problems. June 20th - 24th Fractions and Decimals: Part, Part, Whole! Let your student see how fun math can be by spending the day playing math games! Students will learn fraction and decimal conversion, part to whole relationships, and how to solve improper fraction problems. We will apply baking/cooking ideas and activities into the classroom. Students will also learn how to break apart and solve word problems, testing strategies, and money skills with banking/checkbook keeping. June 27th - July 1 Measurement and Data: Let's plot this place! Join me for a week of fun exploring different ways to measure, convert measurements, and track data. Students will practice tracking data in different forms and learn how to read bar graphs, pie charts, line graphs, area graphs, etc. We will use computer programs to create and track data of our own. Students will have daily challenges through play of real-world scenarios, and compete with on another to complete the task at hand. July 11th - 15th Geometry: Lines, Angles, Shapes, Oh My! Come spend a week practicing geometry concepts through play! Students will learn to classify shapes, measure line segments, work on angle types/measurement, and degrees. Learn the fundamentals of aerodynamics as we explore airplanes and gliders in this hands-on class. We will start with paper airplanes and straw gliders, progressing to sturdy balsa gliders. Just like a real design engineer, students will design, simulate and integrate their designs until they get it just right. Students will collaborate with each other to create a basic design they will use to start their simulations. Simulation software will be used to fine tune wing shape, angle of attack, reduce drag and weight. Once students have completed a final design they will make their gliders in real life. They can then compare their results from their simulation to their real life results. The students will compete against each other in a “fly-off” to see which design worked the best.

On the surface, Minecraft seems like a simple game. The Minecraft world is large, open-ended and full of hostile creatures. You must mine stone, chop wood, build shelter, grow food, and build weapons to survive. But to move on to large and complex building projects, a community of Minecrafters must work together. As a group, students will design and plan a city. Students will establish rules and conventions, cooperate with each other, manage scarce resources and create divisions of labor. Students have much to learn from this process. In this camp we will all play vanilla Minecraft on our own server. The world will be fresh, and as a group we will decide what to build. And most importantly - have some summer fun! Students must already have a Minecraft account and bring their password and userID with them.
