Introduction
PRESIDENTS’ WELCOME
Welcome from BAPRAS President, Mr David Ward
Dear Delegates,
It is a great pleasure to welcome you to our Summer Meeting in Helsinki. BAPRAS is delighted to be joining with FAPRAS in a joint meeting. We have a programme that ranges widely across plastic and hand surgery. The international faculty includes speakers from Finland, UK, Ireland, Sweden, Holland, Italy, Spain, USA, Australia, Mexico, Korea, India, Pakistan, South Africa and Russia.
We will be at the Scandic Marina Congress Center, on the sea front and very central, with the conference hotel, the Scandic Grand Marina, just across the road. The city centre is within easy walking distance or a short tram ride.
On the morning of the first day we will hear about historical and military aspects of plastic surgery. In the afternoon we have the first of two sessions on hand surgery, a separate specialty in Finland, with international speakers talking about transplantation, and a session on lymphoedema running in parallel with lower limb surgery.
On the second day, following talks on thermal injuries, Chris Khoo, past President of BAPRAS, will give the Newcastle University John Potter Lecture. Aesthetic surgery and the second hand surgery sessions then follow. In the evening there is the Gala Dinner at the art deco restaurant Pörssi.
On the third day we have speakers on craniofacial and trunk surgery, followed by the Sushruta-Guha lecture on facial transplantation by Bohdan Pomahac, in association with the Royal College of Surgeons of

Introduction
Edinburgh. The rest of the day is on breast surgery, including an update on ALCL and a talk by the President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Interspersed in the meeting there will be several free paper sessions. A large number of high quality presentations were submitted this year, and these sessions will showcase the very high quality of those papers, adding to the scientific value of the meeting.
Finland celebrates its centenary this year. Helsinki is the ‘Daughter of the Baltic’, and will be at its beautiful best in June. It is intrinsically linked with the sea, making many of the world’s icebreakers, and its fishermen still bringing their catches into the main harbour. It has much to offer, with fine architecture, many museums, and offshore islands to explore. I hope very much that you will enjoy the meeting, not only the scientific parts, but also the networking and socialising, and a chance to visit Finland.

Introduction
PRESIDENTS’ WELCOME
Welcome from FAPRAS President Dr Ilkka Kaartinen
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I am honored to welcome you to Helsinki this summer for a joint summer meeting of BAPRAS and FAPRAS. The year 2017 marks 100 years of independence for Finland, and conveniently, also the 60th anniversary of the Finnish Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, to bring a festive atmosphere to this year’s meeting.
For the scientific program, we are delighted to have a distinguished faculty of speakers with topics covering all aspects of our specialty. Contemporary subjects, such as face and hand transplantation and BIA-ALCL, are covered by expert lecturers in respective sessions. In addition to the renowned guest speakers, many high quality abstracts from around the globe were selected for free paper presentations.
The social program includes welcome drinks at the City Hall on Thursday, and the Gala Dinner in the beautiful facilities of Restaurant Pörssi, with live music, an essential part of Finnish festivities.
Helsinki is definitely a summer time city, and the location of the meeting in the Port of Helsinki will be great for enjoying the maritime feel of our capital. For a meeting to remember, participants can enjoy a real Finnish sauna and a dip to the cool Baltic sea, or take the short ferry ride to the beautiful Estonian capital Tallinn.
We hope that you will enjoy the meeting and everything Finland has to offer.
