Splash Bash - May 25 This annual Friends of the Library fund- raising event gives you and your family the chance to be one of the first few hundred visitors to the City’s Holmes Aquatic Center this pool season. That night from 5:30 to 7:30 you can swim all you want and check out the brand new facilities on the northeast side of the complex. The just- completed building includes an updated concessions area, family-style restrooms and a meeting room. Splash Bash tickets are $15 a person. That price includes dinner from In-N-Out Burger. UP With Reading! participants will be able to take part in fun activities throughout June and July. All events, featuring special guests, will take place at the library on Wednesdays. Youth summer reading program starts May 25

UPFD offers CPR training

The Fire Department has an upcoming opportunity forresidents who want American HeartAssociation CPR and First Aidtraining. Class date and time:

• Saturday, June 2 (8 a.m. to noon)

Conducted at University Park CityHall, the session is limited to the first

10 individuals who register. Participants will learn howto give CPR to adults, children and infants, and will alsowork with Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs).Participants will be charged $25 each to cover the cost ofmaterials. Registration and payment in advance arerequired. Please call 214-987-5380. Please note: If youare a healthcare worker, the Fire Department has not yetscheduled a AHA Healthcare Provider/BLS class.

City providing free mosquito dunks

The City is providing mosquito dunks (twoto a pack) to UP residents who stop by CityHall (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. - 3800University Blvd.). To receive the productyou must show proof of residency (driver

license). Mosquito dunks will be provided, one pack toeach resident, until our supply is gone. This same productcan be purchased at local garden centers.

Mosquito dunks look like a small,beige donut. They float instanding water. As the dunkslowly dissolves, it releases abacterium which is toxic to allspecies of mosquito larvae.Dunks can be used in fish ponds,birdbaths, flower pots, rain

barrels or any place where water collects and remains fora period of time. The dunks kill mosquito larvae beforethey grow to become biting and disease-spreading adults.The product is harmless to other living things. Each dunkis effective for a 30-day period.

One last look at Eggstravaganza 2018

The weather was great, and it surewas fun to see everyone in Goar Parkfor last month’s Eggstravaganza. Itdoesn’t take long for 10,000 eggs todisappear! The Easter bunny isalready looking forward to nextyear’s event. You can be sure there

ID cards are now printed EACH year for ALL passholders. ID cards must be presented each pool visit.Passes are valid for the person whose name and photoappears on the card. Photos can be done at the time ofpurchase, or by email. When submitting your photos byemail, please indicate who each photo is for. If youchoose to email your photos, your ID cards will beavailable at the HAC cashier desk. You will be notifiedonce your passes are available for pick-up. They will notbe mailed.

New Pool Passes

First time pool pass applicants must register in person.This can be done at any of our purchase locations duringthe hours listed. City Hall does not sell passes, or processID cards. Highlander Festival art show, 14 pieces were selected.The collection includes two pieces from each school.Seven are on display at the library, and the other seven areon display at City Hall. Each piece shows the title of thework, the student’s name, grade level and campus. The artwill remain on display until next spring, when 14 newselections will be made.

The pond will be stocked and the fish will be biting! TheCity of University Park will host this year’s Children’sFishing Derby on Saturday, June 2 at Caruth Park from 9a.m. to noon. Children must bring their own pole and bait.“Catch and Release” procedures will be followed.

Lots of activities

Every hour awards will be presented for the largest andsmallest fish caught! In addition, there will be children’sentertainment, a photo booth and various local businesssponsors will be on site. For more information about theevent, contact the Parks and Recreation Department at214-987-5488.
