SUMMER NEWSLETTER 4 6 th JULY 2010 Dear Parents It has been a very busy few weeks with lots of events and celebrations – and there are more to come! These are some of the exciting activities:- Rehearsed Reading by the Pied Piper Theatre Company on Friday 23 rd June Pine Class were very privileged to take part in the development of new play being prepared to coincide with the Olympic Games. They were asked for their critical views, shared with the director, playwright and actors after a rehearsed reading of ‘Great Gran’s Great Games’. The play explores the relationship with a young boy and his Great Gran who comes to stay, following a hip injury. Initially, he thinks she is so old that she cannot do anything until she teaches him to swim, and he learns that she was a contestant in the 1948 Olympics. The company was very impressed by the thoughtful and creative ideas shared by the children. We had planned to share this event with Cippenham Infant year two children, as the launch of a link with our two schools. Unfortunately, they were not able to attend but our children have sent them a synopsis of the play and we hope this will be the start of a continued relationship between the two schools. Surrey Commercial Services Football Shirt Competition We would like to thank all the children who took part. The winning entry from our school was designed by Emily Wolfenden and this will be submitted for further judging. Well done Emily! Guildford in Bloom Awards On Wednesday 30 th June, Mrs Balcombe and Mrs Sayers took five children to the Awards Ceremony to receive prizes. Our school won Silver-Gilt (just below gold) for the school allotment,

SUMMER NEWSLETTER 4 6th JULY 2010

Dear Parents

It has been a very busy few weeks with lots of events and celebrations – and there are more to come! These are some of the exciting activities:-

Rehearsed Reading by the Pied Piper Theatre Company on Friday 23rd JunePine Class were very privileged to take part in the development of new play being prepared to coincide with the Olympic Games.

Our school won Silver-Gilt (just below gold) for the school allotment, Silver for the hanging baskets and Runner-up in the garden photography competition. This is a fantastic result and recognises the efforts of all the children, led by the Mrs Balcombe, who has been the inspiration behind all the gardening projects. Well done and thank you!Allotment Shop Pine Class will be selling their produce, every Friday morning at drop off time. It is organic and very good value (Secretts on your doorstep!).

Week 6th – 9th July is Arts WeekEvery morning (apart from Wednesday for Pine Class, when they are visiting Hampton Court Palace) the children will have the opportunity to visit different classrooms to take part in a ‘carousel of workshops’ to develop their art skills. In the afternoons they will have the chance to apply these skills to a range of creative activities. The resulting works of art will be on display around the school and in the hall where we will set up an art gallery for our annual Open Evening on Thursday 15 th July between 6.30-8.30 p.m.

Following registration, we will walk the children down to Shalford Park where we will meet the majority of parents (and younger siblings and other relations if they would like to come along). However, if you do not have a younger sibling and would be willing to help to escort the children, we would be very grateful.

We should arrive and be ready to start the activities about 10.30 a.m. At 12.00 a.m. we will stop for a picnic lunch – all spectators are invited to bring their own picnic along and join us. There will be some further games/ activities after lunch and we will be finished by 2.00 p.m. Parents may take their children home then. However, we will bring any children left, back to school to be collected at normal time.Children will need:- their P.E. kit (to make it easier they may like to to wear this to school on the day), a sun-hat, sunscreen, a water bottle and a packed lunch.
