Welcome to Smugglers’ Notch Resort®!

At Summer Fun University (SFU), we are experts in fun for kids, with loads of exciting

activities to try out every Summer! SFU programming revolves around safety, fun and

learning. We strive to engage our campers in fun activities which promote learning,

respect, social and emotional growth, and a connection to nature and community in a

secure environment. Our commitment to keeping our programs fresh and our activities

diverse helps to provide a memorable experience for every child each Summer.

What’s NEW for this Summer? This year we have added a 5th day to the High Adventure

Camp program for ages 9 to 17. Participants will get to try ArborTrek’s NEW Treetop

Obstacle Course, where they can navigate their way through 50 elements, as well as climb

our rock wall. At Bootleggers’ Basin we’ve created a new wooded Obstacle Race Course

to challenge campers. Lastly we’ve added a two-night backpacking overnight for Survival

Camp participants, ages 13 to 17, that will guide campers over the historic spine of the

Green Mountains.

At SFU, we know that kids learn best by doing. That’s why all of our counselors are trained

in experiential facilitation. Campers don’t sit around, they get involved! By the end of the

week, our goal is not only to put smiles on campers’ faces, but to ensure that they have

learned and grown from the new experiences they’ve had and friends they’ve made.

We recommend you register for these programs prior to arrival. If you choose to sign up for

any of our programs upon arrival, you may do so at the Activities Desk (ext. 1293), located

in the Village Center, on a space available basis. Thank you for joining us at Smugglers’

Notch Resort. We’re excited to welcome you into our community and to help create the

experience you’ve been looking for!

Let your young campers begin to explore the world of Smugglers’ Notch in our Trail Blazers program. Trail Blazers is uniquely designed to meet the needs of 5 & 6 year olds who are ready for more of an adventure than Discovery Dynamos (3-4 year olds), and getting ready for Adventure Rangers (7-10 year olds). This all-day program will start to challenge your child with fun physical activity and introduce some of the options they will have in Adventure Rangers while still providing the opportunity for low-key activities that 5 & 6 year olds sometime need.

Groups with non-swimmers will get a chance to enjoy the Turtle Slide and play in our Little Smugglers’ Lagoon, where the water is 2½ feet deep and children are carefully supervised by counselors and lifeguards. The new Splashville Splash Pad is also a fun destination for non-swimmers. If your child passes our swim test, he or she can choose to join the swim group.

Daily activities: Swim time, games, arts & crafts, hiking, snacks, stories, and quiet time. We try our best to group 5 & 6 year olds based on their age and energy level.

SUnday / low ropes challenge – Groups will hike to the Low Ropes Course for a day of team building experiences. Campers will have the opportunity to stop and explore at our Village Reservoir on the way.

Monday / Fun on the green – Campers will enjoy a variety of different field games out on our Village Green, then finish the day watching the exciting disc dog show featuring Stanley the Supernova Disc Dog and his pals.

TUESday / creature Feature – Each week our resident professor brings a different exotic animal to visit the children for a unique learning experience.

WEdnESday / costume creation – Campers will get to use all of their creative energy to help design and build the costumes they will wear in the parade on Thursday.

ThurSdAy / Theme day parade – Campers spend a portion of the day adding the final touches to their parade costumes. The day is then wrapped up with our theme parade on the Village Green. (All parents are invited to the parade on the Village Green at 3:30 pm.)

FRiday / Bootlegger madness – Campers will spend the afternoon at Bootleggers’ Basin. Groups will be shuttled down after lunch and spend time playing games in the fields and exploring the area with bug nets, magnifying glasses, and view boxes. They even get to spy on the frogs and the fish with our underwater camera!

SaTURday / choose your own Adventure – Campers will get to choose between some of their favorite activities from the week.

Trail Blazers Ages 5 & 6 years

RELAX, CREATE, DISCOVER. There is no better place for 3 & 4 year olds to spend their Summer Vacation than in Smugglers’ Discovery Dynamos camp. The Dynamos are given a new theme each day with fresh activities to give children a chance to discover new facets of themselves and the world around them. In our experience, offering 3 & 4 year olds a special focus each day helps them succeed and enjoy their day away from mom and dad. Below you will find more specific information about meeting times and locations, themes and other daily activities.

Daily activities: Every day kids will play at one of our water facilities, re-energize with snack time, and relax during story & quiet time. During water play, groups will get to enjoy one of our wading pools carefully supervised by lifeguards and counselors.

SUnday / creative crafts – We will use our imaginations to create projects using a variety of materials such as clay, paint, and recycled items.

Monday / gotta move – This will be an action-packed day filled with running and jumping as we test physical abilities and build self-confidence by going through a mini-obstacle course and enjoying other movement activities. We’ll finish the day watching the exciting disc dog show featuring Stanley the Supernova Disc Dog and his pals.

TUESday / mogul mouse & Billy Bob Bear mystery – Mogul Mouse & Billy Bob Bear are lost! We’ll follow clues around the Village to find them and then pose for a group photo.

WEdnESday / Blend, build, mix and match – We’ll play with different tools for measuring, mixing, building and blending of solids and liquids. Final creations will be used for playing, eating, or building!

ThURSday / Theme parade day & creative Fun – This day is focused on making costumes for our afternoon theme day parade. (All parents are invited to the parade on the Village Green at 3:30 pm.)

FRiday / rockin’ rhythms and musical Fun – We’ll start the day with a sing-along with the Friendly Pirate, followed by an afternoon of play and fun.

SaTURday / The great reservoir Adventure – We’ll learn about frogs through puppet games, fun stories, and arts & crafts. Then we’ll hike to the Village Reservoir to see frogs and tadpoles up close, and explore the nature of a forest pond.

The Smugglers’ notch adaptive program (SNAP) is dedicated to providing therapeutic recreation for children and adults of all abilities in a supportive environment. SNAP experiences are tailored to meet the needs and goals of each individual. The ratio of counselor to camper is based on the individual needs of each person. There is no age limit for the SNAP program. It is our hope that each camper will leave the SNAP program with feelings of self respect, respect for others and nature, and new skills.

The Summer SNAP Program offers a variety of adventure activities... •swimming •watersliding •guidedhiking •sing-alongs •arts&crafts •kayaking •horsebackriding •naturetime •climbingwall

New this season we are offering private swim lessons with Swim Whisper trained instructors.  This is a technique used in teaching adaptive swim lessons.  We offer ½ hour swim lessons, two times a day, Monday through Friday.

A special Autism Mountain Camp is offered selected weeks during Summer programming. Special programming such as sailing on Lake Champlain with Vermont Adaptive and horseback riding are also available. Please call or email for details.

Advanced reservations are required in order to meet each individual’s needs. Due to popular demand we have limited space during our peak weeks. Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis.
