Grading Settings for Mastering Biology:

Late Penalty: • You will lose 10% for each day late.• Credit will never be reduced more than 50%.

Show Whether an Answer is Correct: • If students exhaust all attempts or give up.• Deduct 30% credit for incorrectly answering a multiple-choice or true/false question before the last

attempt.• Deduct 20% credit for incorrectly answering any other type of question before the last attempt.

Students Can View Hints: • Use hints to review the content related to the question rather than guessing and losing 20 - 30%.

Adaptive Follow-Up: After each Mastering Biology assignment you will be presented with an Adaptive Follow-Up. These assignments are personalized and the questions sets you receive will help you review the concepts you struggled with. Most of these will be scored on the following criteria:

• 3 questions sets (about 15 min each)• Earn up to 3 extra credit points.

4) Discussion boards on Blackboard: One is available for each of the four assigned chapters. You must create a new discussion thread and pose at least one question from each chapter and then respond to a minimum of two classmate’s threads. Your posed questions should be meaningful, thought-provoking, and reflect that you have read the chapter and completed the Mastering Biology assignment. In other words, don’t pose an easy question just to get it done and over with. Discussion posts are due the Monday after each Mastering Biology assignment is due. Collaboration is an important component of being successful in AP biology and you need to be comfortable asking classmates for help and forming study groups. If any issue arises that will make it impossible for you to complete the posts on time (you are going on vacation and you created a thread but there are no others to comment on yet) you must take responsibility and email me prior to the due date.Chapter 1 Discussion - due 7/1/19Chapter 2 Discussion - due 7/15/19Chapter 3 Discussion - due 7/29/19Chapter 4 Discussion - due 8/12/19

5) Recommended Reading (optional, easy reads that are not content heavy):• The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks• Survival of the Sickest: The Surprising Connections Between Disease and Longevity

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at [email protected]

Have a great summer. I look forward to working with you!
