Vestry Person of the Month -June 2017 WELCOME SCOTT SALLEY
Scott Salley was born in Orlando, Florida but has lived in the Boston area since attending Boston University in 1997. A lifelong Episcopalian, Scott has spent part of the last 30+ summers at Kanuga Conference Center, and Episcopalian retreat in Hendersonville, North Carolina and serves on its Board of Visitors. After working in the Front Office of the Boston Red Sox for 10 years, Scott is now a Realtor with Keller Williams. He lives in Framingham with his wife, Kate, and son, Stephen.
CHURCH SCHOOL We wrap our church school year this month, with the first two Sundays. On June 4, we will be celebrating Pentecost. Come, let the Holy Spirit guide you. June 11 will be Game Day. Pray for good weather, so we can play outside on the lawn. But we will have fun indoors, anyway, if we cannot go outside. It will also be the last class for this year and Teacher Appreciation Day. Church School will resume in September on the Sunday after Labor Day. Babysitting will continue through the summer months. Thank you to all who supplied snacks for the children this year. We will be asking for support again next year. Thank you to all of our babysitters, teachers, class assistants, hall monitors, craft supply cutters, and bulletin board designers. You are all blessings!
—Cathy Corcoran
SUMMER MUSIC SEEKS VOLUNTEERS! The summer “pick-up” choir (consisting of whoever shows up in the choir room 20 minutes before the service to rehearse an easy piece of music) will again be singing on July 9 and August 6. This means we are looking for volunteers to provide offertory music on the other Sundays throughout the summer and Labor Day weekend (September 3). We’re hoping to have enough volunteers to cover a few preludes as well as the offertories (middle of the service). You can sing or play an instrument and you can do it alone or in a group if you’d prefer. Please contact Jim in person after church or by email: ([email protected]) to schedule a time to sing or to play your instrument. Jim will also be contacting you directly if you’ve sung or played an instrument in the past (or if Jim has heard you have a good voice from people in the choir or congregation). Thank you in advance for sharing your talents with your church family!
SAVERS FUNDRAISER Clear out your closets and donate clothing, shoes, bags, linens, towels, small household items, books, CDS, and St. Andrew's will get a percentage of the weight of the items. On Sunday, June 11, after Coffee Hour, we will be delivering all donations brought to church. (You can bring items earlier and put them in the church attic.) Collect from your friends and co-workers. Items can also be dropped off at SAVERS directly between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
SAVE THE DATE September 28, 2017
We will be turning Harris Hall into a Comedy Club for our first ever Comedy Night Fundraiser. We’ll have some cocktails and enjoy the laughter together on a Thursday evening and still get home early enough for a good night’s sleep for work on Friday. Details and tickets are coming soon!
NEW ARRIVALS! Congratulations to Kathryn and Ben Smith on the birth of son Nicholas on May 13. And congratulations to Julie Nichols-Scopa on the birth of son Christian Joseph on May 28.

FAMILY PROMISE HOSTING
It’s almost time! We begin our hosting of Family Promise guests in the beautiful Edwards House at the UCC Conference Center on Badger Road in Framingham on Sunday, July 2. We will host overnights and meals until Sunday, July 16. Family Promise is a community response to families who are homeless. We have been a support and now host congregation for many years. This is a wonderful opportunity to participate on behalf of the parish in a meaningful way. It is also a wonderful family evening activity. And it’s quite simple! Ask any of the many volunteers in our midst! Signing up is new for this year! Family Promise will begin an online signup that is standardized through all congregations. We will be the first parish to use this format! If you have volunteered in the past, your name will be uploaded to the Cervis signup through Family Promise. You will receive an email saying you can now sign up for our host weeks (or for volunteer opportunities at any local parish or the day center). If you do not have access to a computer, or are having difficulty signing up, please reach out to Barbara Ward, 508.577.4935, and she will sign you up or assist in getting your profile active. If you are new to Family Promise, your signup will take place at a volunteer training. You just show up at the one most convenient to you. No preregistration necessary! Following are the next orientations: Tuesday, June 6: 7-8:30 p.m., Fisk United Methodist, 106 Walnut St, Natick. Thursday, June 22: 7-8:30 p.m., St Bridgets, 832 Worcester Rd, Framingham (Rt 9E) Any questions, please ask Barbara Ward, [email protected] or 508.577.4935. Thank you for your support of this amazing local nonprofit.
OUTREACH REPORT The joint St. Andrew’s and Lutheran Church of Framingham Outreach Committee meets the second Sunday of each month, in the Library, at 9:00 a.m., and all who are interested are encouraged to attend. The next meeting is Sunday, June 11. Please stop by the Outreach bulletin board to see a summary of all the good works we have done together in mission and in ministry, so far, this year. Thank you for your generosity.
Recent Activities Lutheran World Relief: Quilts: Katie’s Quilts made and donated 86 glorious quilts, which were blessed and boxed on Sunday, May 7. Personal Care Kits: 37 Personal Care Kits were blessed, assembled, and packed on Sunday, May 7. Both the quilts and personal care kits were delivered to Christ Lutheran Church in Natick, where they were packed and shipped to their destinations (with tracking barcode labels attached to each box). More information about Lutheran World Relief may be obtained at https://lwr.org. Thank you to all who made the beautiful quilts, donated items for the personal care kits, and helped pack and deliver the quilts and kits. Your generosity will make a positive impact on the lives of many.
Upcoming Activities In addition to hosting the Family Promise MetroWest families during the first week of July, we have a few events in the planning stages for this summer. We will be holding a Summer Food Collection to benefit The Pearl Street Cupboard & Café (the beneficiary of our ongoing food pantry) at a local grocery store on a Saturday. The date is still to be determined, but the time will be from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. We are planning to have a table at two of the Concerts on the Green, where we will distribute free bottles of spring water. We are also planning to have a backpack and school supply collection. Stay tuned for additional information, as the details are finalized.
Ongoing Activities Food Pantry Collection: Donations of nonperishable canned food are given to the Pearl Street Cupboard & Cafe at Park, a program of the United Way of Tri-County. The Cupboard currently serves 1,500 families. In addition to the food donations, they welcome volunteers, Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Salvation Army Miracle Kitchen: St. Andrew’s and LCF members prepare and serve a delicious and
nutritious meal the third Friday of each month, at 4:30 p.m., at the Salvation Army at 35-45 Concord Street in Framingham. Volunteers are always welcomed and appreciated. If you can’t help at the Salvation Army, please consider making a dessert for 80 guests. The date of the next Miracle Kitchen volunteer opportunity is June 23. For more information about any of these activities, email Carol Esbig at [email protected].

DEACON’S MESSAGE JUNE 2017
Then the king will say to those at his right hand,
‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;
for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink,
I was a stranger and you welcomed me…’ —Matthew 25:34-35
Grace and peace to you! Christian scripture is clear - our mandate as followers of Jesus is to love God and to love our neighbors. We serve God when we serve our neighbors. With the recent release of the President’s proposed budget for 2018, we are faced with the prospect that our neighbors who are not financially stable - who are poor - may suffer greatly. Deep cuts are being proposed to programs that provide food and shelter to our country’s poorest and most vulnerable people; programs such as Medicaid, the Social Security Disability Insurance Program, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (a.k.a., food stamps), subsidized school lunch programs, and much more would be slashed so that the very wealthy among us may grow even richer from the resulting tax cuts. This goes against everything Jesus teaches us about taking care of each other, especially those in need. It is time for us as Christians to stand firm in our faith and to protest boldly against this devastating budget. The presiding bishops of the Episcopal Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America - at the invitation of Bread for the World and in collaboration with other ecumenical partners - have issued a Joint Call to Prayer, Fasting, and Advocacy. Together, we are encouraged to deepen our spiritual engagement with this issue by praying - always - and fasting on the 21st day of each month throughout the time that the 115th Congress is in session. Strengthened by these spiritual practices, we are encouraged to act - to advocate with our US Senators and Representatives, beseeching them to do all that they can do to restore the cuts and maintain the programs that are of such importance to so many people. Pray. Fast. Advocate. Live as Jesus has taught, that God’s will might be done and God’s kingdom might come. to God be the glory! Susan for more information on the Bread for the World initiative, please visit: http://www.bread.org/call-to-prayer-fasting-advocacy

Food Bank Collection to Benefit Pearl St. Café and Food Pantry
Volunteers are needed to request and collect food donations outside of Shaws in
Sudbury on Saturday July 15th from 9-12pm. You can plan to come for just an
hour or 30 minutes. It’s a great opportunity for families to do something good
for the community together!
Food pantries run low in the summer, but the need is great. Families who
depend on breakfast and lunch being served to their children at school must
now plan for these meals. Many people think about donating over the holidays,
but it slips our minds in the summer months. So tell your kids to turn off those
iPads and head over to Shaws to do some of God’s good work!

St. Andrew’s/LCF hosts Family Promise Families at
UCC Conference Center, July 2–16
Families in the Family Promise program stay at area churches
during the year and it is our privilege to host them at the UCC
Conference Center. Participating as a host can mean grocery
shopping for their evening meals, cooking and enjoying a
dinner with the families, or staying as an overnight host. It’s a
great opportunity for families to participate in an act of
kindness together. Sign-ups for the various roles will be
available in June.
All volunteers must complete an informative training session
before participating. There are two options:
Tuesday 6/6, 7-8:30pm Fisk United Methodist, 106 Walnut St,
Natick
Thursday 6/22 7-8:30pm St Bridget’s, 832 Worcester Rd,
Framingham (Rt 9E)
Concerts on the Green
St. Andrew’s/LCF will staff a table and hand out free bottles of water at the Concerts on the Green on the
Framingham Common and we’re looking for volunteers to set up, clean up, or just hang out and hand out
water – all while enjoying the concert! LCF has done this in the past and it was a big hit. What a great way to
spread the good news of how God is working in our church!
Talk to Carol Esbig at church to volunteer or email her at [email protected].
