AravisA night under the stars in Manigod: after a day’s hiking in the Aravis region with a qualified guide, spend the night in complete wilderness . The guide will choose a safe and beautiful spot to set up a bivouac for the night . After watching the sunset, hikers will enjoy a simple dinner under the moonlight before sleeping in their tents . The following day, everybody will be up early to watch the local fauna awake – chamois, mountain goats and marmots . A real family adventure! www.compagnie-guides-aravis.com
Families
Nearly one in two holidaymakers to Savoie Mont Blanc goes hiking during their visit.
CANI-RANDOCani-rando is the summer version of dog-sledding. The same dogs who pull the sledges in the winter tow the children along hiking tracks in the summer. The children wear a harness, which is attached to the dogs via a lunge. It is completely safe and children love it.The Bureau des Guides in Aussois organises half-day outings for children over seven years old. They cost €24 per person. www.guides-savoie.com
In La Plagne children as young as six years old can go on a day of cani-rando with their parents. It costs €28 per person. www.la-plagne.com
The same type of package is available in Les Sybelles, with Patrick as your guide, and in Canton d’Aiguebelle – Porte de Maurienne . The latter is a three-day walk, with two nights in tents .
FlaineLook for marmots in Flaine! If it is easy to hear the marmots thanks to their distinctive whistle, it can be difficult to spot them unless you know exactly where to look . Flaine Mountain organises three-hour walks for families with children over six years old to spot and watch the funny little creatureswww.flaine-mountain.com

JUNE – SEPTEMBER 2015
Chamonix celebrates the 150th anniversary of the golden age of mountaineeringThe Golden Age of Alpinism reached its climax in 1865 and was immortalised by 65 first ascents, made by 63 alpinists. Among them, there were 34 British, 13 Austrian, 9 Swiss, 6 Italian and one French. This intense period of exploration and adventure was pioneered by the Victorians and ‘mountaineering’ developed as a ‘sport’ with no scientific justification. From June to September 2015, the Chamonix Mont Blanc Valley will honour the guides, alpinists, artists and photographers of the Golden Age.
Nine temporary exhibitions dedicated to 1865 will take place in the Chamonix Valley as well as a series of conferences in both French and English .

LAKE BOURGETLake Bourget is France’s largest natural lake and its main settlement, Aix-les-Bains, slopes up from the south-east corner.

LAKE AIGUEBELETTEThe smallest of the four lakes is a wonderfully well-kept secret of a lake, hidden by small mountains west of Chambéry. It’s quieter than the other great lakes, mainly because motor boats aren’t allowed on its waters.

La Brasserie Alpine makes the new 3 Vallées beer . It is a blond beer, 100% brewed in the Tarentaise Valley and bottled at La Brasserie Alpine . A 3 Vallées white beer and a red ale will be launched in the spring . The 3 Vallées beer can be found on the menus of some of the most exclusive restaurants in the 3 Valleys, such as Le Chabotté in Courchevel and Le Farçon in La Tania .
At 1,430m, the Brasserie du Galibier, in Valloire, is France’s highest microbrewery, and one of the highest in Europe . Le Galibier, a famous summit in the French Alps, has exceptionally pure water straight from the glacier . Thanks to the high-quality water and the knowledge of the Master brewer, Le Galibier brewery makes three types of excellent beer .
The Brasserie de la Vanoise in La Norma, in the Maurienne Valley, brews an organic beer mixed with locally-grown saffron . They make a blond beer, a white beer and a brown ale .
Brewed and drank in Saint-Gervais! La Marmotte beer is made at the foot of Mont-Blanc and can be bought at the Pur Bar in Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc .
Two times World ChampionThe Brasserie du Mont Blanc in Chambéry has been recognised twice at the World Beer Awards – in 2013 for its white beer and two years later, the Rousse du Mont Blanc took the title for the world’s best amber ale .
La Brasserie des Cîmes, located in Aix-les-Bains, makes five excellent beers, each of them with a funky label . There are three blonds (Cimoise, Hors Piste and Yéti), a white beer (l’Aiguille Blanche) and a pale ale (Piste Noire) .
The Brasserie de la Vallée du Giffre in Morillon makes 12 types of beer, all low in alcohol .
The Bec Jaune Brewery in Morzine brews its own beer as well as importing a large selection of beers . Enjoy a beer with some of their delicious food made with local and seasonal products .
In Chamonix, the MBC (Micro Brasserie de Chamonix) also makes its own beer and serves a large variety of burgers and other food .
Savoie beers are made using water from the glaciers and lakes in the region. Because it contains few minerals, Savoie Mont Blanc water is ideal to make beer. And after a day in the mountains or a hot day by the lake, visitors to Savoie Mont Blanc can enjoy a cold locally-made beer! With 24 microbreweries in the area, there is always a new Savoie beer to try.
