When Chris came to theLexington Rescue Mission, all he had was the clothing he
was wearing. Today, he gives back
to the Mission and the olks who
helped him by volunteering in our
thrit store on Bryan Avenue.
Chris served in the Marines
in Aghanistan. But when he
returned stateside, he was lost. I
had a hard time coming back into
society. I was lost and unhappy. I
would do anything i it made me
look cool snortcoke, smoke
pot. Then I
ound out it
was all a
mask I put
on, so I
tried
to
kill mysel, he recalls.
Chris walked into the Mission
or a meal and ound people who
cared or him and a Bible-based
recovery program that worked. I
needed somebody to love me and
show me the way to Jesus Christ
and show me that theres a better
way out there. Thats what theyve
done or me. The Mission has
saved my lie.
The guys at
the Mission werehere for me.
My problem was that I
wasnt doing Gods will. I wasnt
serving Him. We are meant to be
in communion with God. When
were not in communion with
God, we have a void in our lie,
and we try to fx that void withother things like alcohol and
drugs. The people at the Mission
have a real, true heart. I just want
to give back or what they gave to
me, Chris says.

Dear Donor Name,
Im sending you this
special edition o Rescue Alert
because right now were acing
a problem.
First, ederal, state andlocal services are being cut as
belts are tightened and budgets
are slashed. That means ewer
government services or those
who really need them those
who are homeless and amilies
struggling to make ends meet.
It also means more people
are coming to the Mission or
help, more amilies calling or
help with rent and utilities,
more people coming in or
meals when ood stamps run
out. Hard times mean more
people need help to survive
today, while others need long-
term solutions to homelessness
and addiction.
The second problem is
fnding the money to provide
these services. Food donations
are limited supplies we really
count on to make ends meet.

Hard Times Make Great Friends
The year, 2008, has been
hard or everyone. Prices
are higher. More people are
out o work. Here in Lexington,
that has meant more people
becoming homeless, struggling
to survive and to eed and care
or themselves or their amilies.
Nearly everyone has been
aected in some way.
But these hard times have
also shown us just how many
great riends the Lexington
Rescue Mission has! Yes, times
are hard or many o us. But
people have continued to give.
You have brought clothing and
ood to the Mission. You have
volunteered your time. You have
remembered us and those we
serve in your prayers.
We are truly grateul that
you have ollowed
Pauls admonition
in Galatians 6:10,
as we have the
opportunity, let us do good to
all people, and we hope that
you will continue to help as
much as you can by mailing
your git today. Or by making
