  1. Ask your child to draw a picture about his day.  2. Have family members set some summer goals. List books they want to read and things they want to do.  3. Practice math skills with real-life problems. If a toy costs $9.99, how much change will your child get back from a $20 bill?  4. Have your child start a “What I Learned Today” journal.  5. Take a compass on a walk with your child. Write down the direction of every turn you take.  6. Take your child to the library to sign up for a summer reading program.  7. Help your child bake a batch of brownies. Have her figure out how to double the recipe. Then take some to a friend.  8. Go on a fraction search through today’s newspaper with your child.  Which sections have the most fractions?  9. Tell your child you love him today.  10. If you don’t have a first aid kit, have y our child help you put one together. Review basic first aid.  11. Which way is the wind blowing? Have your child hang a strand of  yarn from a tree to find out.  12. Does your newspaper have a special page for kids? Encourage your child to read it each day.  13. Make a graph together of the types of pets in  your nei ghborho od.  14. At the grocery store, have your child estimate how many apples are in two pounds. Use scales to check.  15. Help your child plan three healthy breakfasts.  16. Show your child some classified ads. Which jobs interest her?  17. Prepare a fruit salad for dessert. When shopping for ingredients, let  your child choose one item he’s never tasted.  18. Choose a book with an author’s name that begins with A. Read it together. Next, try a B book.  19. Give your child a measuring tape. Let her measure objects in your home. 20. See how many places in your home (not including books) your child can find words to read.  21. Read a newspaper or online weather page together. Pick a city and compare its temperature to your local forecast.  22. Don’t let your child forget math facts. Review a few each day.  23.
