Difference between the two
productions The main difference between the two filmproductions is that they have different budgets, this means that the bigger films are able to travel
and create products on a bigger scale e.g.Avatar.
The screenplay is also different as larger filmsoften buy their screenplay, where as in lower
budget the screen write is often also the directorthis means that the director therefore has aclearer vision and therefore have a better bondwith the making of the film

Go to film festivals to get their film recognised andsponsored for production/distribution companies to buythem
Little or no advertising on larger price advertisingtechniques, e.g. TV slots as they cannot afford it
Often only one trailer as they cannot afford to createmore, this is often released online
Often go through the print form of advertising as it is
cheaper USP is often the screen play
Often get released straight to DVD and if successful canbe released in cinema in one country

Differences between the two
As the budget is larger for blockbuster films this can beused to have a more successful adverting campaign, thisgets the film recognised and therefore attracts a largeraudience and gets the producers and distributors more
money. Where as independent films, have a smaller budget so
they are trying to attract a niche audience creating asmaller profit but possibly a larger in scale to cost ofproducing the film.
By having blockbusters being released twice (cinemaand DVD) in multiple countries the chance for profit ishigher but in lower for smaller budget films as they canonly go on DVD release in one country

To produce a film the company must go
through a planning process. Once they have got their film idea andgenre allocated they then produce a
treatment and pitch their idea to the investorsin order to get the money to produce the film. They put forward their U.S.P in order toengage the investors and get them to give
them the money.

Advertising
Different films are distributed in differentways, according to the audience they aretrying to target. Slumdog Millionaire was an
independent film produce and theyadvertised their film through posters onbuses. This is very small-scale advertising. This means that they weren't targeting a wide
audience, because they didnt putthemselves out to advertise to attract theiraudience as much as they could.

Advertising
Twilights Saga: New Moon contrastingly, wasmassively marketed. They advertised big topromote the film and spread awareness to
viewers that the next film is coming out. Thiswas easy for them to do because it is asequel and so they know that they have alarge audience who are interested in the film
and with the advantage of having fans of thefilm already, they wouldnt find it hard toattract their audience.

Unique Selling Points
The U.S.P for Slumdog Millionaire was thatits director was Danny Boyle. This is becausehe is a well-known and popular director, with
much film experience. This would have beenthe main factor that grabbed peoplesattention and made them go to see it. TheU.S.P for New Moon is the actors/actresses
involved. (Robert Patterson & TaylorLautner).

Slumdog Millionaire distributed in cinemas
only, then it came out on DVD. They didntprovide any form of trailer. Slumdog
Millionaire focused on digital marketing tomake their audience aware. Whereas, New
Moon had a tease trailer, a full trailer (whichwas shown in cinemas) and a TV trailer. Hereis New Moons TV trailer.
Slumdog Millionaires inspiration came from atrue story, and New Moons inspiration camefrom the novels.

Before a film is distributed, it has to be acquired by adistributor who is either a major or independentdistributor and they consider its USP, marketability andplayability. Once they consider the film they then release
it to the market and once they have done that theypublicise it the media to attract attention, this then getsnoticed by their target audience and make them want togo to the cinema and watch and later buy the film forhome viewing.

The profit
In order for the business to be able to make profit it isimportant that they consider how much money they willspend of advertising and promoting their film as well asmuch profit they expect to make from the film.
The profit that a film will make will also depend on thetype of film it is such as independent or mainstream. This is because the more money which is invested in tothe film the bigger a budget they have and the more thefilm can be created and promoted effectively. Meaning
they will therefore be able to make more profit.

The Target Audience
In order for a film to be successful a business must firstidentify their target audience. Business can do thisthough research such as market research(questionnaires, surveys etc). It is important for abusiness to be able to identify their target audience sothat they can make the film appeal to them as so thatthey know who they are targeting otherwise if this is notdone then the film could be at huge risk of failure as theymay not be able attract anyone to their film.
For example transformers was in the happy meal toappeal to the younger target audience which likedtransformers.
