Thursday August 6,1992

Crew on site fueled up k prepared to drill by 7:00am. Fueling was done the day before.-drill was down for two hours due to the right track coining off the sprocket as a result of climbing on uneven ground and boulders falling between the sprocket and track while drilling hole # 11. Repairs resulted in a loose track which prevented drilling of the planned holes *15 and *16, both which were on oneven terrain at the south end of section 4+9.W It was anticipated that these holes would indicate the western extension of the quartzite of zone 3 and hence the quality was expected to be marginal (ie.88-92% Si02). A diabase dyke cutting this area would have also deduced grade.

As time was still available prior to float pick up a new location for hole #16 was selected in zone 2 along the north side of the access trail enroute to the road 66 meters SE of the creek on top of the hill.

One can also drive directly to site*3 by contiuing down the Wavy Lake trail until just before Wavy Lake, then turning left for about one kilometer on the Wavy Lake North Shore Road where a recently constructed road leads eastward to the face of the quarry and joins up with the previously mentioned trail. At the time of writing this report, as per an MNR request, this road has been blocked to traffic.

GENERAL GEOLOGY

The area of study represents a portion of the western contact of the Eden Lake Granite with the Huronian Lorrain formation.

Generally the Lorrain formation in the area, adjacent to the ear lie" Gowganda formation to the west, qrades from a pink arkosic quartzite into 3 tan massive aluminous quartzite, then into a massive to banded green alumina rich orthoquartzite, then into orthoquartzite with red bands of hematitic quartzite, then into areas of orthoquartzite and cherty orthoquartzite, containing occasional reddish hematitic swirls The highest values of silica appear to occur in the last two rock types.

From the results of the mapping and assay results it is apparent that the occurrence of the last two members of the upper Lorrain appear along a parallel trend that matches the Gowganda Lorrain contact as indicated in OGS map 2299. Unfortunately this contact is not continuous due to intrusions of Nippising Diabase and later Eden Lake Intrusives. In addition, alteration due to local thermal effects from these intrusions, their metasomatic alterations and small scale structural movements and folding add complexity to the geological picture.

Field observations suggest that, the Eden Lake Granite frequently intruded along pre-existing (Nippising) diabase intrusions within the Huronian metasediments. This resulted in partial assimilation and occasional brecciation of the surrounding diabase and quartzites, A result of this assimilation is the production of a hybrid rock noted as grey granite on tne map This rock is frequently encountered along the contact of the

Page 27: SUMMARY OF PERCUSSION DRILLING ACTIVITIES · 51 101672UULY3.4/92 iJULY 6,7/92 j AUG 5/92 AUG 4,6/92 JUNE 29, JULY 10 IJULY 6,7 fc. AUG 5; AUG 5/92 JJULY 6,7/92 SI10177UJULYS/92 i

Huronian metasediments and the Eden Lake Granites and is gradationally with the latter.

The intrusion of the Eden Lake Granite and the tectonic effects of the nearby Grenville Front resulted in numerous local faults and minor local displacements. Generally the more siliceous quartzites reacted to this by brittle fracturing while the more argillaceous metasediments responded by plastic deformation as evidenced by their highly variable dip and strike.

Details of the extent of these rock types are shown on the geology map (map *6) located in the back pocket.

GEOLOGY OF ZONE *3

Zone * Z appears to consist primarily of white cherty orthoquartzite believed to represent the upper Lorrain Formation it may also be possioie that zone *3 is a remnant of Bar River Orthoquartzite.

The northern contact of this zone appears to change gradationally to an interbedded unit of narrow orthoquartzite, feldspar rich quartzite and arkosic bands. This area generally weathers recesslvely compared to the orthoquartzite and is bounded to the north by a combination of primarily diabase, followed by grey granite and gneissic metapelite. These last three rock type form a prominent ridge paralleling zone *3 to the north. Eden lake granite is also found in some areas but generally not in the immediate contact zone

The northern contact of the orthoquartzites as snown on the Geology map is poorly defined as most of this area is covered by overburden, in addition, the contact, in some areas, appears to be nonlinear due to some local folding and displacement. Despite the above, the contact was drawn to show the maximum southern extension of orthoquartzite having *90?S silica content. Locally some variations from this contact line may be expected.

The southern contact of trr.s zone appears to change abruptly along the base of a high east-west nqge of primarily grey granite This somewhat undulating contact appears to be pushed northward along lobe shaped areas of granite intrusions. To the east of this contact the enclosing rocks change from a grey granite to a gneissic metapelite. These rocks snow a highly variable strike ana dip orientation along the contact This may represent a-' area of plastic deformation. A small area of Eden Lake pink granite occurs

Page 28: SUMMARY OF PERCUSSION DRILLING ACTIVITIES · 51 101672UULY3.4/92 iJULY 6,7/92 j AUG 5/92 AUG 4,6/92 JUNE 29, JULY 10 IJULY 6,7 fc. AUG 5; AUG 5/92 JJULY 6,7/92 SI10177UJULYS/92 i

along the contact in the southwest corner of the map area, but generally this rock Is more common in the center of Granitic bodies.

The southern contact seems to be well defined along the base of above mentioned ridge but due to the lack of outcrop between the contact and the high quality silica orthoquartzite bedrock exposed to the north (between lines 3+7 1 W and 1+20W) and due to the possibility of the westward extension of a large waste band, drill proven reserves -were calculated for only part of this area.

Several variations in quality are found along the strike length of Zone *3 The purest area of this zone appears east of 3+71 W and narrows beyond the last outcrop shown 25 meters east of line 0+00. Quartzite in this area is generally white, cherty with occasional reddish hematitic swirls. The silica content of this area averages 9453?* The calculated reserves in this report come from part of this area. The remainder of this area has been classified as drill indicated reserves. These drill indicated reserves are located in the southwestern part of this zone where there Is a slight reduction of the silica ( estimated 9! - 921^ silica) content due to the presence of a series of parade' thin 1/16" - 1/2" micaceous seams, some minor granitic bands and some boudmaged granite and diabase trains Tnis lower grade area occurs south of a line from the northern part of Line 3*71 w~to the south of hole *8 ana toward hole *4 of line 1*20W. See Map '4 for reserve delineations

Also within this area is a 2 to 6 meter waste band of grey granite shown in outcrop in the southeastern part of the zone Several narrow (less than j meter) parallel to subparallel bands and small boudmaged waste bodies of grey granite are also found near this large waste band This large waste band runs more or less along the strike length of the eastern part of the zone and separates two areas of *90^ silica This waste zone was not calculated as part of the reserves and should not be co-mingled with any silica produced Tnis waste band disappears under overburdened areas to the west, it may be continuous with a diabase encountered in hole 1 1 between 20' and 45' and again further westward in outcrop along the access road and in the large outcrop shown on the south part of line 4+95W

Along line 3+7 1 W and to the west, the silica content of the quartzite becomes reduced due to numerous bands or inclusions of reddish hematite stained alumina Along and beyond line 4+95 W the reduced silica content is, in part, reduced by the same bands or inclusions as line 3+71 w as well as a general increase in the overall alumina content of the quartzite. Lack of outcrop exposure between these two lines prevents delineation of these

DESCRIPTION OF FIELD ACTIVITIES

LINE CUTTING fc MAPPING

Line cutting services were provided by a Joe Kowal of 22 Downing Street, Sudbury/Ontario, and the author during June 17, 1992, using compass bearings and chaining. A base line 600 meters long beginning at the eastern margins of Zone *3 at a bearing of 92* was cut and marked at 10 meter intervals This line more or less represented the center of the strike of zone *3 and is shown on the Geological (Map 6) and Topographic (Map 7) maps located in the back pocket.

Detailed geological mapping at a scale of 1.750 was performed by Robert Gerald Komarechka of 537 Haig Street, from September 17, 18, 21, 22 and September 24, i 992, using compass and hip chain measurements from the baseline with tie-ins from the topographical survey

TRAIL CONSTRUCTION 6 STRIPPING

Trail Construction and stripping was performed by Gord Salo Contracting Limited, P. 0. Box 36, Sta. B, Sudbury, Ontario. The work was performed during the period of June 30th to July 9th inclusive with a J5W BH80E track type excavator operated by Gord Salo. Trail construction was for a 2.3 kilometer route, which included 600 meters of upgrading an existing trail Tne purpose of this trail was to permit access for a

.percussion drill. The route of this access trail is shown on the current land status map (map *3).

Stripping and trenching consisted of removing overburden along three strips, averaging 100 meters in length and about 120 meters apart, across the strike extension of Zone *3. Stripping and removal of overburden was also done around the proposed quarry face located at the end of the access trail See the drill location map (Map *5) in appendix *2

PERCUSSION DRILL PROGRAM

On the morning of July 29, 1992 the locations for the percussion drill holes were laid out by the author On August 2 , 1 992 a chain saw was used Dy the author to cut out access routes for the drill to reacn the drill sites The percussion drill program was carried from August 4, 1992 to August 6, 1992 by Consbec Inc. using an 5CH-3500 BV Gardner Denver hydraulic crawler drill with winch. The drilling personnel consisted of the driller nark P. Beskorowany and his helper Richard P. walker. Drilling Supplies were conveyed with a Big Bear 4x4 all terrain vehicle.

A total of scholes comprising 1620 feet of drilling and resulting in 318 chip samples were collected at the drill collar over eacn 5 interval of rock drilled These samples were bagged, labelled, visually inspected and shipped to the assay lab by the author wnile drilling was ongoing. Observations of the cursory visual examination of these samoles are written up in Appendix *i Transport of sampling equipment to the site and return of the samples was accomplished with a Pas Partout rubber tracked all terrain swamp buggy. Joseph Kowal was also retained on August 4,4for further chain sawing and sample delivery Map 5 4 6 shows the location? of ali but one of the percussion drill noles The location of hole 1 5 is shown on Nap 3 in claim 1094929, just north along the access trail. TOPOGRAPHICAL SURVEY

in an effort to assist in mine development and to confirm field measurements a rudimentary topographical survey was undertaker- by Trueline Z* L ayout of Sudbury Ontario Tnis work involved the use of a Geodometer total station and down loading to a computer Subseauent contouring was performed using AUTOCAD version 10. The field work was performed on September 19, 1992 by Jim Dasti, instrument man and Peter Fioweroay and the author as prism (rod) men Computer work was performed by Peter Flowerday. The result of the work is shown on Map *7 in the back pocket.

The elevations shown on this map are relative elevations The first reading taken near station 0+00 was arbitrarily set at 1 00. Two bench marks 'were established at prominent points along the southern contact ridge for later tie-in to a geodetic bench mark if reguired.

SAMPLE EVALUATION'

The samples coil-acted were assayed by Acme Analytical Laboratories of Vancouver British Columbia. The analysis consisted of a geochemical whole rock ICP analysis These results are shown in appendix *2. The hole location, depth and sil/ a content of each sample has been plotted on the appropriate sections located in appendix * 3.

HAULAGE ROAD

After obtaining an Aggregate Permit from MNR to remove a bulk sample from this site a 1.2 kilometer road was constructed from the Wavy Lake North Shore Road (WLNS Road) to site *3 to allow for the extraction of a bulk sample requested by INCO. Work on this road began on November 4,

1 992 and was complete^' by November 24, 1 993.

Work on this rocc consisted of chalnsawlng of standing trees (for a 66' right of way) Into pMes of firewood - carried out by Roger Pellerin of Box 67, Warren, Ontario, POH 2NO, transporting gravel for the road bed with 2 tandem trucks - opei ated by Savard M Trucking of Regional Road *8; Onaping Plaza, Onaping, Ontario, spreading of the gravel with a D4 Bulldozer and grading with a 740 Champion grader - the last two pieces of equipment were leased and operated by Leo Alarie k Sons Limited. The location of this haul road is shown on map *3 - Current Land Status.

BULK SAMPLE

On November 16, 1992, while work on the road was being completed, Consbec Inc. of 2725 B? i isle Dr. Val Caron, Ontario, arrived on site with a Gardner Denver Hydratra;k. This machine drilled 16-4" dia. holes of 30 feet each on a lO'xlO' pattern to blast an area of about 90m2. About 800* of ammonium nitrate w^re used with Ensign Blckford E225/350 detonators primed with Trojan *3/- \ primers to produce about 1200 .to 1400 tonnes of rubble.

During the last week of November loading and haulage (delayed by heavy rains affecting the roadbase) of the blastsd silica was undertaken by Savard M Trucking with 40 ton semi dump trucks. A total of 720 tonnes of material was hauled to E. R. Jules Crushing installation located at the Falconbridge Smelter Complex in Falconbridge. Unfortunately, heavy rain prevented removal of more material.

Crushing of this material was undertaken from November 30 to December 2, 1992 with the recovery of 543 tons of .375" x 1.5" silica product delivered to the INCO smelter complex by Savard M Trucking Approvimately 226 tonnes of minus .375" material was left at the Falconbridge crushing site

The silica delivered to INCO was tested in their smelter and proved slightly superior to the material from the Alban ouarry primarily because it had less decrepitation, (pers. communication with Nell Feeley, INCO Copper Cliff Smelter Superintendent et al.). Even though this product was not washed, it was less dusty to handle than material from Alban

CONCLUSIONS * RECOMMENDATIONS

As a result of the calculations shown in appendix *3 k *4, over one million tonnes of drill proven*- reserves of silica averaging 94.53?* silica "..s?, been ce'lneated in the area from 0+00 to 3*05W and to a depth of 80 This area is open at depth and Indications for further reserves at depth are excellent.

Further marginal an l i indicated* reserves of about 234,300 tonnes averaging about 91& to 92S silica have been delineated in the area from 3+05W to 3+71 W. The major impurity in this area is alumina. This impurity is due primarily to the mineral muscovite, with some feldspar and amphiboles, which, although not apparent on surface in the driH intersections to be either micaceous seams, xenoliths or narrow bands of granite and minor diabase.

As a result of the detailed mapping completed, after the percussion drill program, additional outcrops of orthoquartzite (containing +90S& silica) have been located which were beyond the area examined by drilling and not included in the drill proven reserve category. These reserves, due to the lack of outcrop exposure, but as a result of persistent continuity, are Classified in the probable reserve* category. The location of the probable reserves are shown on map *4. Looking on the geological mac these areas contain significant overburden and may contain varying amounts of waste rocks As a result it is suggested that these areas be investigated as progressive stripping occurs during mine development. No tonnages have been qiven for these probable reserves.

Page 34: SUMMARY OF PERCUSSION DRILLING ACTIVITIES · 51 101672UULY3.4/92 iJULY 6,7/92 j AUG 5/92 AUG 4,6/92 JUNE 29, JULY 10 IJULY 6,7 fc. AUG 5; AUG 5/92 JJULY 6,7/92 SI10177UJULYS/92 i

A further area of possible reserves* occurs along zone *3 between 3+71W and 4+95W. This large area of approximately 13.392 m? appears to contain quartzite with a silica content of about 89.5?; based on average section grades. Lack of outcrop and drill data prevents further speculation of this area.

No further drilling to examine the westward extension of zone *3 beyond 4+95W was undertaken as some surface sampling indicated excess alumina within the quartzite. Further examination and analysis is required to confirm this generalization.

A persistent wide band of grey granite along the southeast part, of zone *3 appears both on the geological map 6 and drill hole location map in appendix *3 Although good quality silica exists on both sides of this waste band, this band should not be co-mingled with the ore Its westward extension beneath the overburden should also be determined.

As a result of the bulk sample (taken from an area of average grade - see Map *6 and section of hole*?) this silica has met the requirements of a flux for the INCO smelter and even slightly exceeded the quality of the existing supplier The recovery ratio of silica flux from the blasted material in this bulk sample is 68.569?. if this ratio is maintained, and a total of 1.000.000 tonnes of +90& silica is blasted, this would produce 665,600 tonnes of flux, more than enough for 5 years production!

BRIEF SAMPLE DESCRIPTIONS

NOTE:

The sample descriptions below are based on quick visual observation with no magnification. As a result, the rock name diabase has been used in the following descriptions in the most liberal field terminology and consequently may refer to any dark colored rock encountered in the area such as metagraywake, grey granite and dark coloured gneiss as well as actual diabase.

It should be mentioned that the sample descriptions given below were based on observations prior to the return of the assay results and do not necessarily indicate the true quality of the samples. The reader is asked to refer to the assay results in appendix 2 for more information.

Generally high alumina refers to contamination by muscovite mica and high K2O refers to contamination by feldspar (primarily orthoclase).

The following abbreviations have been used to expedite descriptions:

X - an apparent poor sample ? - questionable sample

okay - a good sample

*Note: All grades are calculated on a weighted average. This is accomplished by first obtaining an average grade of each section by calculating the average of all sample grades within the defined contacts of the ore zone. The average grade of the interval between sections is determined by the sum of the multiple of the area and grade of the sections divided by the sum of the area of the sections.

DRILL INDICATED RESERVES

The drill indicated reserves are based on the western half of the area between sections 2+40W and 3+7 1 W and to a drill investigated vertical depth of O' or 25 meters. Using the average width of 54 meters x the length of (371-240)72 or 65.5 meters x 25 meter depth x 2.65 the specific gravity of quartz we obtain, 234,326 tonnes. The grade of 91-929b silica was obtained by assuming a linear change of grade between the two sections and calculating the average grade between the midpoint of the sections and section 3+71W.
