Sulfide Stress Crack (SSC) occurs because some hydrogen atoms will diffuse in to the base metal and embrittlement the crystalline structure, in order for SSC to occur the metal must be exposed to sour gas (H2S).It is acceptable to have a HRC hardness value above the required HRC 35 if it is not exposed to a sour gas.
