sugarloaf updates

What’s that box?over the past several years, the number of peoplevisiting the North shore during september andoctober has increased substantially according tothe local visitor bureaus. at sugarloaf Cove, we arecurrently only able to have the building openregularly on weekends. on weekdays, the buildingis closed or open only when volunteers areavailable. This means we are losing the opportunityto have contact with many visitors and potentialsupporters. but just how many visitors are wemissing?

To quantify the number of visitors duringseptember and october, we have installed apedestrian counter at the top of our main trail fromthe parking lot. We started collecting data mid-

september andwill continuethrough october. The counter is ontemporary loanfrom thearrowheadregionalDevelopmentCommission.Preliminary datahas already shownus that our weekdays see a steady flow of visitors. These results will help guide our staffing decisionsin the future.

Where would we be without our volunteers? Thank you to all of the volunteers, who servedas site hosts, maintained our trails, stained the

picnic tables (Mike and russ) and helped withoffice work.

A special thank you to board member Mark Magneyfor donating his services and supplies to secure theparking lot steps railings.

Did you purchase a bookmark or greeting card fromSugarloaf this summer? Many of you did because

they are beautiful works of art. but, did you knowthat all proceeds went to support sugarloaf? a bigthank you to Minnesota artist, sandy Danus, forcreating and donating the beautiful and popularbookmarks and greeting cards.

A special thank you to Helen Sievers for herdonation of the new soap dispenser and soap inthe restroom, a motion sensor light switch for therestroom (to be installed soon) and her donation ofmany helpful kitchen and other items that helpkeep us organized. helen has a great eye fornoticing and donating items that really make adifference. Thanks helen!
