Airly Colliery Substations 0, 1 & 2

Centennial Coal

This project included the design, constructionand commissioning of the following substations;• Substation 0 – 66kV Integral Energy Supply Point

• Substation 1 – 66/11kV 16MVA Substation

• Substation 3 – 11kV/433V 2.5MVA Substation

These substations were all designed and manufactured as modular units at our Tomago Facility, transported to site and craned into position.

• safe and easy access for ongoing maintenance

Angus Place East – Centennial Coal

Value: $14M

Duration: 16 Months

Purpose:

Angus Place Colliery established new electrical supply

infrastructure and a ventilation facility for the underground

mine extension known as Angus Place East. The new

facility provided the underground longwall operation with

improved ventilation and electrical supply through surface

to seam shafts and boreholes. The Angus Place Mine is

owned by Centennial Coal in joint venture with SK Kores

Australia Pty Ltd and is operated by Centennial Angus Place.

PBE Rutherford was appointed as

Principal Contractor to Centennial Angus

Place for the design, supply, construction,

testing, commissioning and handover of

the Angus Place East Ventilation Facility

Electrical Infrastructure. This included

a 66kV connection to the Endeavour

Energy 66kV network through to the 11kV

underground switchboard that powers

the mine. The project was based in the

remote location on the Newnes Plateau

near Lithgow.

Scope:



Project Highlights:

• ASP1 contestable works involving the augmentation of the existing 66kV overhead Endeavour Energy infrastructure for the 66kV connection point.

• 66kV Metering and Switching Station including liaison with the electricity retailer and metering provider (Sub 0).

• 4.5km of buried 66kV transmission lines including dual fibre optic communications.

• 66/11kV Transportable 15MVA Substation (Sub 1).

• 1km of buried dual 11kV transmission lines including dual fibre optic communications.

• 11kV distribution switchroom including 1.5MVA kiosk transformer for surface supply’s and dual PFC Units (Sub 2).

• 11kV underground feeder cables via two 380m deep boreholes suspended from surface to seam including all communication cables.

• 11kV underground distribution panel and remote operating facilities including the ability to back feed to Sub 2 in the event of emergency (Sub 3).

• Fully integrated and comprehensive communication system allowing full diagnostics and remote operation.
