Offshore Substations

Substation Design

ISC entered the offshore wind business with the development and design of the offshore substation for the worlds first offshore wind farm in 2003. This design by ISC has formed the basis for almost all offshore wind farm substations built today.

ISC key competence derives from the ability to undertake the complete range of tasks associated with substation design, from FEED/concept design through detailed design, Tender documents, Assistance during fabrication and installation and commissioning phase, Site supervison and follow up.

ISC provide independent engineering both directly for wind farm owners and developers as well as for EPCI contractors.

l FEED: Layout, Descriptions, Feasibility Studies and preparation for Basic & Detail Design.

l Basic & Detail Design Basis, Design Briefs, Design Design: Drawings and Design Reports.

l Certifications: All projects are certified by independent certification agencies such as DNV-GL, Bureau Veritas and Lloyds.

l Authority Approval in accordance with country Approval: specific regulations such as e.g BSH in Germany. l Offshore Skilled staff holding offshore Assistance: certificate.

Engineering Disciplines

ISC and Offshore Substation DesignISC Consulting Engineers A/S has extensive experience in the design of offshore substations, dating back to the design of the world’s first offshore substation, installed at the Nysted Offshore Wind Farm in 2003. ISC’s experience in the design of offshore structures is founded on knowledge obtained from over 40 years in the offshore oil and gas industry.

Since then ISC has successfully undertaken the complete detailed design of a further 21 offshore substations. ISC’s portfolio clearly demonstrates a comprehensive expertise within the field of offshore substation design, including a broad spectrum of topside layouts as well as jacket and monopile substructures. ISC has also demonstrated the ability to work alongside local authorities across Europe to produce superior solutions which conform to the local regulations and authority approval.

ISC has also performed numerous FEED studies for offshore substations, the latest being 3 offshore wind farms in the French sector which included topside and alternative substructure concepts such as jacket and gravity based foundations.
