1 Background The Reflections Framed project, launched in 2014, is designed to discover, celebrate and save military service stories from around the community. Why “Reflections Framed?" Military service stories deserve to be discovered, celebrated and saved. You know where these stories are told ... in living rooms, taverns, coffee shops, at family reunions, in churches, retirement communities, at funerals, VFWs, annual military holidays, and more. Too often, when the storytellers leave us, the stories do too. So we are challenging members of the community to reflect on a story that they would like to celebrate and save for future generations to experience. Our motto is, of course: "No Reflections Left Behind!" We have celebrated and saved nearly 200 Reflections since our launch in 2014. A word about "celebrating." Some stories are heartbreaking, so "celebrating" in this context is having the courage to tell that story, to be real, and to contribute to the bigger picture of what military sacrifice can look like. What is the Reflections Framed process? First, decide who your Reflection will be about. It can be about you, a family member, a relative, a friend, or a co-worker. The subject can be from any branch of the military, active or retired, alive or long passed. Then, find a photo(s) about your subject and write a story about him or her and submit it. The submission steps can be found on page 5 entitled "Submitting your 2017 Reflection Framed." Then you wait, knowing your Reflection Framed is being custom made by Bob Greene (from DuPage Framing Center,) is being archived for generations to come, and will be presented to you at a wonderful celebration. What happens at the celebration? On November 10, 2017 your Reflection Framed will be presented to you by Wheaton College ROTC cadets at Cantigny's Le Jardin restaurant. The doors will open at 4 pm (light snacks and drinks provided) and the celebration will start at 5 pm. The celebration will end at approximately 7 pm. Recipients will take their Reflections Framed home with them. Do I need to be at the event to receive my Reflection Framed? Ideally yes, as this is a celebration. Please make sure someone is present to receive your Reflection Framed if you are unable to attend. We want your "pinch hitter" to experience the joy this project brings to servicemen, servicewomen, family, and friends. Is there a cost? No, the Reflections Framed celebration is free to the recipients and their close family and friends. This is their day, join us! Questions?
