1.0 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

M/s. MAHATHI MINERALS, Managing Partner : Sri G.N. SUSHIL KUMAR is

proposed to undertake quarrying Color Granite over an extent of Sy. No

308/1 (Old Sy.N0.308) of Billekallu (V), Aspari (M), Kurnool (D), Andhra

Pradesh State, for a period of 20 years by the Deputy Director of Mines &

Geology, Kurnool.

The Asst. Director of Mines & Geology, Kurnool is decided to in-principle to

grant quarry lease for Color Granite over an extent of Sy. No 308/1 (Old

Sy.N0.308) of Billekallu (V), Aspari (M), Kurnool (D), Andhra Pradesh subject

to submission of Approved Mining Plan under Rule 12 (5) (C) of Andhra

Pradesh Minor Mineral Concession Rules, 1966 within six months &

Environment Clearance from the concerned department vide their Notice

No.2419 /R4-2/2017, dated 28-03-2017 from Department of Mines & Geolgy,

Ibrahimpatnam.

Accordingly this Mining Plan is prepared as per guidelines issued and

submitted to the Deputy Department of Mines & Geolgy, Ibrahimpatnam, for

approval. The mining plan is approved by Department of Mines & Geology

vide letter No. 1138/MP-KNL/2017 dated 09-05-2017.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Site Description:

The Quarry lease area is for Color Granite over an extent of 2.893 Hectares in

Sy.No. 308/1 (Old Sy.N0.308) of Billekallu (V), Aspari (M), Kurnool District,

Andhra Pradesh.

Choice of Fuel:

No fuel will be used in the proposed mining activity.

Common Facilities:

The common facilities such as Quarry office, resting shelter, Fir Aid facilities

and Drinking water will be provided in the QL area.

Source & Availability of water:

Water is required for Drilling, identification of defects/cracks in granite blocks,

Dust suppression and domestic purpose. Water for the mining activity is

sourced from nearby borewell.

Pollution Control Measures:

The air emission of concern from this quarry activity will be dust generation.

Applying wet drilling method & water sprinkling for dust suppression on

quarry haul roads. Planting of trees along main Quarry haul roads will help in

mitigating the air emissions. There is no waste water generation from the

proposed quarry operations.

2.0 INTRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT / BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Identification of project and Project Proponent:

The quarry activity is for extraction of Colour granite over an extent of 2.893

Ha. in Survey No. 308/1 (Old Sy.N0.308) of Billekallu (V), Aspari (M), Kurnool

District, Andhra Pradesh.

The Promoters

The quarry activity is for excavation of Color Granite would be undertaken by

Sri. G.N.SUSHEEL KUMAR Managing Partner of the company. The quarry

activities will e undertaken under the supervision of mines manager.

Need for the project and importance to the region

India is one among the leading countries in mining and export of granite and

is rich in granite reserves. Geologically, the southern and eastern belts of the

Nation are abundant in granite deposits. Different shades of granites are

available in abundance in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka,

Maharashtra, Assam, Bihar, Rajasthan, Odisha, Meghalaya and Madhya

Pradesh. Indian Granite Stone has become the most sought-after and

extensively used stone material in building construction and massive

structural works throughout the world, and it is well known in the

International market, not only for its elegance and aesthetic quality, but also

for its durability.

The Granite Industry has received a wider publicity and corporate importance

in the last few years. The industry is emerging now as a thrust-export-area

with several corporate houses, supported by expert professionals trained in all

aspects, entering the sector with sophisticated world-class machinery and

making it an organized one. Many overseas buyers, including the Japanese,

are the regular importers of the Jet Black Material, which is considered to be

the world's best variety and is found in abundance in Tamil Nadu, Andhra

Pradesh and Karnataka.

India is one of the leading nations in the production and export of Granite and

other stones. Granite is a very hard crystalline, igneous or metamorphic rock

primarily composed of feldspar, quartz and lesser amounts of dark minerals.

India has vast resources of granite with about 110 varieties of different

colours and textures such as black, grey, pink, multi coloured, etc. These

varieties are used to produce monuments, building slabs, titles, surface plates

etc. However, popular varieties are mainly found in South India.

Granite in the form of slabs and tiles has several attractive features, which,

inter alia, includes extra-fine mirror-polish, scratch-free glossy surface and

durability. Granite can be compared very well with other floor and wall

application materials such as ceramics and marble.

Granites are now mined in most of the Indian states for use as construction

material and road metal but production of dressed granite blocks and slabs

from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu are highly

priced. In India there are 43 granite processing units of which 12 are in

Andhra Pradesh, 13 in Karnataka, 3 in Rajasthan, 14 in Tamil Nadu and 1 in

Odisha. During the last five years exports have grown steadily by about 10%

a year but this growth rate may increase even more in the near future. New

companies may not be entering the industry but many existing companies are

steadily increasing their production capacity to meet demand.

New technology investments are being made with the aim of increasing sales

and reducing costs. In the last few years CNC machines have been employed

in many factories for making complicated designs. Usually the diamond tools

and other consumables are imported, to the extent of 80% of total demand,

and amounting to between 5 and 6 million US dollars per year.

Total Granite production in the Indian industry is estimated to be about 350

to 400 containers a month. (A curious unit - when referring to blocks the

normal term used is cubic metres, in slabs, the measurement unit is square

metres or square feet, while in the gravestones the reference point tends to

be containers). As mentioned before, the entire production is exported.

Presently about 180 to 200 containers are exported to Europe, approximately

50 containers a month are exported to United States, 40 containers to Japan

while the rest are sent to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and other

countries. The months of November, December and most of January are

considered to be the low season when monthly production drops to about

half. An average container has a price of US$ 18000 to US$ 24000, depending

on the materials used and the complexity of the designs, thus the total

industry size is estimated to be approximately US $ 85 million.

Exports

Every month about 10,000 to 12,000 cubic meters of granite stones are being

exported to China and other countries. Every year, the granite stone business

turnover crosses over Rs. 500 crore in the district. It has also become a good

source of income for the railways, which has constructed special platforms for

transportation of granite to Kakinada and Chennai ports for export to China.

The stone is exported to China where it is polished and then marketed to

Japan and other Asian countries. The cranes deployed for lifting of huge

blocks of granite at the railway stations were also earning lakhs of rupees.

Besides, it is also providing employment to several labourers and others.

India has one of the largest reserves of granite in the world and

exported Rs 2,600 crore (Rs 26 billion) worth of the stone in the past

years. Granite exports this fiscal are expected to touch Rs 2,800 crore

(Rs 28 billion) and nearly one-fourth of these exports is accounted for

by monument stones.

About 85-90 % of the total granite production in the country is for

exports. So after the recession period is over the industry will again

regain its demand .This is the best time for an entrepreneur to venture

into this sector.

Last fiscal, the total exports of granite and marble from India had

crossed the Rs 4,000 crore marks with the US accounting for the bulk of

the consumption (40%).

The granite industry in Rajasthan has been growing at 50% annually.

But this growth has serious social and environmental costs. As the

water sources are being depleted, forcing farmers to become laborers in

the granite industry.

Rajasthan Granite mining is an approximately Rs 800 crore industry

today; it forms 95% of India’s dimension stone exports.

Imports

Granite importing countries such as the US, China, Italy have reduced their

requirements. India's granite and natural stone exports could be down by 15-

20 per cent per year according to CAPEXIL (formerly Chemicals & Allied

Products Export Promotion Council).

3.0 PROJECT DESCRIPTION

M/s. MAHATHI MINERALS has filed an application for grant of Quarry lease for

Colour granite in Sy. No. 308/1 (Old Sy.N0.308) of Billekallu (V), Aspari (M),

Kurnool District, A.P. Over an extent of 2.893 Hect. The A.D.M.G,Kurnool and

the Department of Mines and Geology, Ibrahimpatnam has recommended for

grant of Quarry lease for Colour Granite over an extent of 2.893 Ha. only in

favor of M/s. MAHATHI MINERALS.

Location

The Quarry Lease area is located Sy. No. 308/1 (Old Sy.N0.308) of Billekallu

Village, Aspari Mandal, Kurnool District, Andhra Pradesh.

Size or Magnitude of Operation

The project will be for extraction of Color Granite Max. of 2775 m3/ Annum.

Topography:

The Lease area exhibits hilly terrain to a height of about 8 M , and gently

sloping down towards Western side and slightly elevated with 5-6 M

difference of Low to High Level.

Regional Geology

Rocks of Archaean, Proterozoic, Jurassic-Cretaceous and Tertiary

Quaternary ages are exposed in the district The oldest rocks in the area

belong to migmatite complex, represented by migmatised quartzo-

felspathic gneiss and are exposed in the district.Regionally the area

represents part of the Archaean Granite Greenstone terrain of the

Dharwar Craton. It has Schistose rocks of Greenstone belts. These are

referred to as Archaean Greenstone belts. This has been included by the

rocks of Peninsular Gneissic Complex (PGC) which has Gneisses,

Migamatite and Migmatized granite suit of rocks. Gneissesand Migamatites

include Porphyroblastic hornblende gneiss,Hornblende

BiotiteNeiss,Nebulitic to Homophenus Hornblende Gneiss, pink and green

Migamatitic Gneiss Closepet Granite and its equivalents, namely black

granites Porphyritic alkali feldspar granite and Granodiorite, belong to the

Proterozoic age have intruded the above setup.The Greenstone belts,

Gneisses, Migamatites and younger Granitoids are intruded by the mafic

dyke swarms. The stratigraphy of the region is given below.

Geology of lease area:

The Subject area belongs to a small mound with a height of 8 M gently

sloping towards East direction. The area is exposed with multi Color

Granite Sheet Rock intruded with Quartz veins. This subject area is

exposed with sheet rock of pink and black color granite. Either side of the

area intruded in to the Granite Gneisses, it indicating it will be youngest

suits of Granitic rocks. The peninsular gneissic complex comprises

gneisses (migmatite), gray granite, and Pink Granite and Gneissic granite.

The gneiss in general show banding due to alteration of light colored

quartzo-feldspathic minerals and dark colored biotite or hornblende

minerals. These rocks may be separated in to two distinct groups namely

the massive foliated types occur as low dome shaped hillocks. The

intrusive relationship of the granite rock is evident by the presence of

tongues and apophyges within the older rocks and the occurrence of

xenoliths of the older rocks within the granite.

BRIEF DESCRIPTiON OF LITHO UNITS:

The Color Granite Minerologically consists of Quartz, Plagioclase feldspar

as essential minerals and other mafics Boitite and hornblende, etc., as

accessory minerals with fine to medium grain. The Pink Color grains and

the black colour spots are very attractive for this Granite .Fresh rock

surface is unweathered and it is categorized as Grade 'A'. The Granite

available in the demarcated area is useful for Cutting and Polishing purpose

and gives mirror image after polish.

The Rock belongs to Archean age. The area is a slightly undulated hillock.

Due to crisscross jointing the quartz veins are less and it is useful for

dimensional stones. The Q.L. applied area may yield a good deposit of

Granite, which shows uniform in grain size and widely spaced joints.

Texture and Grain size:- The rock shows Ophitic texture with medium to

fine grained.

a) Colour and aesthetic beauty of the stone:- The fresh rock has shades

of pink and light black. It takes good polish that is aesthetically

appealing.

b) Hardness: 6-7

c) Mineralogical composition : Petrologically the rock has quartz,

Orthoclase feldspar, plagioclase feldspar and biotites are the major

minerals in this rock, Apatite, Zircon and some opaque minerals

constitute the miner minerals.

d) Density/ Specific gravity: 2.83

e) Water absorption Capacity: 0.16% (kg/cm2)

f) Porosity: 0.31

g) Compression Strength:- 1998 kg/cm2 (in dry state) and tensile

strength 94 kg/cm2. "The value given is based on the Physical tests

carried out for different rocks in the laboratories of the Geological

Survey of India, and published by the Organization".

h) Abrasiveness: 6-7

i) Permeability: 0.53%

j) Rock quality designation:- Good RQD% between 85-88.

k) Young Modules of Elasticity:-The rock will not become weak in the

presence of water and also it remains durable.

l) Degree of weathering under Hardness/ Microscope:- The outer

layer of the sheet rock on the sloping weathering is seen to a lesser

degree bringing it to grade 'B'. The fresh rock surface seen at the active

mine is un weathered and it is categorized as grade 'A' The overall

classification is grade 'A' only.

m) Glossiness: The rock takes good polishing.

QUARRYING CARRIED OUT

Details of Quarrying Operations: Lease is yet to be granted. The

Preliminary survey has been done. The Q.L applied area does not contain

any forest cover. The applied area does not consist any wild life.

RESERVES

Geological traverses in the quarry and the study exposures in the vicinity of

quarries facilitated to access the shape and size of the deposit in the area. It

is a elevated Deposit rising 8.0 M above ground level within the quarry lease

area. The surface of sheet rock is wavy and irregular.

Method of Estimation of Reserves

The calculation of reserves of prospects, deposit of mine is done at every

stage, right from preliminary to lost stage of exploration and mining.

Based on the prospecting work carried out and the present exposure of the

boulders & sheet rock and the observations made in the adjacent Quarry the

reserves of the area have been estimated by the following parameters. The

proved zone is 13 m and probable and possible zones are 4.0 m each and the

recovery factor is taken only 25 % and it may vary in depth. The reserves are

estimated by the Cross Sectional Method.

Section wise calculation of Colour Granite reserves are given in the following

table.

Two Cross Sections (A-A’, B-B’, C-C’) is drawn perpendicular to the

slope direction for profile purpose.

MINING

Open Cast Mining

The Granite in the quarry lease area is exposed on the surface. Hence, it is

proposed to mine the Colour Granite by open cast, semi-mechanized

methods, by developing the benches of 6 M height with shallow drilling and

blasting. The development of benches will be maintained @ 600 safety slopes.

Therefore, mining operations are to be carried out in this area in 2 stages.

Stage -1

The removal of big size and under sized boulders will be cleared in the quarry

lease area for the next five years by using excavator.

The Hard Rock exposed will be subjected to drilling, blasting and splitting

from mother rock.

Stage - 2

After removal of weathered and Semi Weathered Rock under sized boulders.

The quarrying will be followed in the form of linear cut method. This involves

loosing of the primary block from mother rock. Hence primary cutting will be

done by line drilling method where close spaced parallel holes along straight

line will be made. Line drilling method is used for separation of primary

blocks.

i) Once the free face is developed in working place, the primary cuts are

taken up over a maximum length of 10 mtrs to a width of 3 mtrs and to

a depth of 6 mts depends upon the joints availability. These dimensions

are confirmed as for field studies. Primary block will be cut into

secondary blocks by Jackhammer drilling and wedge cutting and this

block will be dislodged from in-situ position by an excavator.

ii) Line drilling method will be used for cutting the primary blocks which

involve drilling & Blasting.

iii) The holes are charged with low explosive catridge like gun powder and

non-delay detonators for smooth blasting.

iv) The use of delay detonators causes fragmentation and cracks in rocks.

The non detonating cords are inserted into the holes and the holes are

stemmed with muck and plugged at the mouth and fired.

v) Thus the block will separate from the mother rock, which is pulled off

from the face with cranes or shovel.

Drilling

Drill holes of 2.0 - 6.0 M depth will be drilled in a staggered pattern at 3 m

interval:

The 75% Waste is generating in general in Granite quarry @ 41625

m3 for five years.

The Applicant proposes to take up quarrying operations in entire quarry lease

area between the grids. The excavation activity will be taken up in Eastern side

of the quarry lease area and then continue moves to West.

1st Year(2017-18)

In the 1st year it is proposed to develop the western side of the Q.L area by

converting into two benches of 6m height each. The workings will be carried

out over a length of 40 mts with a Width of 25 mts. on RLs of 102 to106. The

benches will be oriented in East-West direction and obtained about 2775 m3

of granite blocks and 8325 m3 of waste rock will be generated in this year.

2nd Year (2018-19)

In the second year the production of granite blocks will be obtained by

advancing the Western side two benches of first year workings towards West

to a distance of 40 mts with a Width of 25 mts without changing the

orientation of the benches on RLs of 106 to108. In this year about 2775 m3

of granite blocks and 8325 m3 of waste rock will be generated.

3rd Year (2019-20)

In the third year the production of granite blocks will be obtained by

advancing the Western side wo benches of second year workings towards

West to a distance of 40 mts with a Width of 25 mts without changing the

orientation of the benches on RLs of 102 to 106. In this year about 2775 m3

of granite blocks and 8325 m3 of waste rock will be generated.

4th Year (2020-21)

In the fourth year the production of granite blocks will be obtained by

advancing the Western side two benches of third year workings towards West

to a distance of 40 mts with a Width of 25 mts without changing the

orientation of the benches from RLs of 102 to 106. In this year about 2775

m3 of granite blocks and 8325 m3 of waste rock will be generated.

advancing the Western side Benches of fourth year workings towards West to

a distance of 40 mts with a Width of 25 mts and the orientation of the

benches will be North-South from RLs of 102 to104. In this year about 2775

m3 of granite blocks and 8325 m3 of waste rock will be generated. The

Quantum of Excavation:

A total of 13875 m3 of saleable Granite is being excavated which is 25%

recovery of the mineral and 75% waste is generated @41625 m3.

USE OF MINERAL AND MINERAL REJECT

The district has significant resources of Granite. Colour Granite blocks can be

used for Construction purpose as flooring material and wall tiles. Some

blocks are used as decorative stones of monumental purpose. Waste

Crushed stone or 'road metal' is used in landscape design and gardening for

gardens, parks, and municipal and private projects as a mulch, walkway,

path, and driveway pavement, and cell infill for modular permeable paving

units. As mineral mulch its benefits include erosion control, water

conservation, weed suppression, and aesthetic qualities. It is often seen

used in rock gardens and cactus gardens.

a) Production Schedule

The production of Granite is continuous throughout year except during

monsoon. That is 10 working months, 25 working days per month are

considered. The average production of 2775 m3 per year (250 days @ 11.1 m3

per day) can be easily achieved in a single shift with sufficient men and

machinery.

b) Magazine Type

The client does not need any explosive magazine. White chemical

powder will be used for silent blasting.

c) Stack Yard

Stocks will be maintained on Northern side of applied area; entire

ROM (Run of Mine) will be Stocked here.

d) Handling of blocks within the quarry

Blocks are separated from mother rock by excavator and the slope of

the ramp is gentle.

e) Transportation of Blocks from quarry to yard and to Destination

The rough blocks in the mine area will be handled by using excavator

and transported to destinations by trucks.

MINE DRAINAGE

The general direction of ground water flow is towards NE. The height of

water table ranges from 50 to 60 bgl. Ground water table is 50 m bgl in the

surrounding areas. The mine lease is on little elevated area max. mining

depth is 30 m . Hence ground water table will not have any impact due to

the mining operations.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN

AIR ENVIRONMENT

The pollutant emitted from quarrying activity will be dust; and major sources of

dust will be due to Quarrying operations and vehicular movement. The following

measures will be adopted in quarrying to eliminate the fugitive dust emission.

Wet drilling.

Water sprinkling on Quarry haul roads & approach road for dust

suppression.

The dust rising due to drilling will be controlled by covering the drill

rods with cloth, dust extractors will also be employed.

IMPACT DUE TO VEHICULAR TRAFFIC

• Maximum an average of 2 trucks / trailers per day will be required to

transport granite to out side agencies.

• The existing road is capable of absorbing this additional traffic.

• Dust suppression will be taken up along the haulage roads & approach

roads.

WATER ENVIRONMENT

WATER REQUIREMENT

The Granite Quarrying activity requires 13.8 cum/day of water. This

includes water for Drilling, identification of defects/cracks in granite blocks,

Dust suppression and domestic purpose. Water required will be sourced

from bore well of nearby village. The following is breakup of it.

WASTE WATER

The only source of waste water generation will be sanitary waste water of 0.6

KLD, which will be treated in septic tank followed by subsurface dispersion.

NOISE ENVIRONMENT

The main source of noise generation will be vehicular movement and the

drilling of boreholes. In the Quarry lease area silent blasting will be done by

using Chemical Compound. The following will be noise control measure:

The machinery will be maintained properly to reduce the noise.

The protective noise reducing gear like earplugs.

Plantation.

SOLID WASTE

75% Solid waste of rocks 41,625 m3 will be generated in this Granite quarry for

the period of 5 years. The Northern side of the area is selected for dump yard

for next five years and the waste will be stocked over a length of 45 m with

width of 35 m to a height of 12.0 m. Step dumping will be resorted. This

material can be utilized to fill the pits after quarry operations are over. When

the dumps reach their optimum height suitable greenery will be grown on this

dumps to stabilize them.

GREEN BELT DEVELOPMENT

The quarry lease area is scanty suitable for plantation as entire area is rocky. There are

absolutely no chances of any tree growing in the quarry area. However it is proposed to

plant a trees along the Approach road.

Total plantation area proposed along the approach road : 1300 m

Total length for avenue plantation on both sides of approach road : 2600 m

Number of plants to be planted @ 10 m space on both sides : 260

4.0 SITE ANALYSIS

Connectivity

Road The Q.L area is connected by and B.T road with internal

earthen road up to the Billekallu Village. The Q.L area is at

a distance 27 Kms. from the Adoni town.

Existing land use pattern

The existing land use is Govt. Land (barren).

Topography

The Lease area exhibits hilly terrain to a height of about 8 M , and gently

sloping down towards Western side and slightly elevated with 5-6 M

difference of Low to High Level.

Existing infrastructure

There are no existing infrastructures in the quarry lease area.

Soil Classification

The area is mostly with red-loamy, black clay, black loamy, black Cotton

Climatic data from secondary sources

The peak summer will be in the month of May. Highest temperature of 45oC is

recorded in the area during the month of May. And the lowest temperature of

12oC is recorded in the month of January. The average annual rainfall is about

670 mm.

Social Infrastructure available

Basic facilities like bus, train and road facilities are available in nearby villages

and Mandal.

5.0 PLANNING BRIEF

Planning Concept

The proposed project involves extraction of Color Granite.

Population Projection

Most of the workers are from nearby villages. Hence there will not be any

increase in population due to the proposed activity.

Assessment of Infrastructure Demand (Physical & Social)

The road facility already available will be used and maintained. The labour

required in mining will be taken from the nearby villages and they will be

trained for the requirement in mine.

Amenities/Facilities

Communication facility like Mobile Phone connectivity will be provided at QL

area. Other amenities for workers and staff shall be provided outside the

mining area.

6.0 PROPOSED INFRASTRUCTURE

Industrial Area (Processing Area)

Proposed area of quarry is 2.893 Ha.

Residential Area (Non Processing Area)

There is no proposal for residential area in the QL area or outside the QL area.

Green Belt

The plantation will be taken up in the Buffer zone of the QL area whenever

possible.

7.0 REHABILITATION AND RESETTLEMENT (R & R) PLAN

As the QL area granted is Govt. land, hence no rehabilitation or resettlement

plan is required as there are no habitations in the in the QL area.

8.0 PROJECT COST

The cost of project for Machinery, Rest shelter, First –Aid room, road

formation will be Rs. 30 Lakhs.

9.0 ANALYSIS OF PROPOSALS (FINAL RECOMMENDATIONS)

Financial & social benefits with special emphasis on the benefits to

the local people including tribal population if any in the area

The proposed quarry activity will be beneficial financially and socially

considering the project cost, mining costs, environmental cost, cost on health

& safety and the various community improvement activities planned. This

mine will provide employment max. of 30 people by direct employment which

include mine officials, skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled labour. The lessee will

extend social benefits like providing drinking water, health camp, educational

support to the neighbouring villagers.

Thus, this project is expected to yield a positive impact on the socio-economic

environment of the area. It helps in sustainable development of this area

including further development of physical & social infrastructural facilities.
