Gather licks from study songs (mining “Temperature,” “Gary’s Blues” and “Take it Easy Now” for licks to use with the “Temperature” jam track is a good example) and/or makeup licks of your own to write an original instrumental. You’ll need as many licks as there are choruses in the jam track, minus one due to the fact that you’ll repeat the first chorus for the last chorus as well. Take each lick and experiment with the Chorus Form options. When you’re done you’ll have an instrumental where each Chorus Form is represented. Below is an example of what you might come up with. Accompaniment Playing Study 5

Use a jam track of your choosing and play one chorus per hole of the harmonica, for all ten holes. Use Accompaniment Playing Study 5, Example 2.3 (below), as reference. Present each note in whichever rhythm you feels matches the track you’re playing to best.

Ex. 2.3 –Hole Changes = Staying on one hole and hitting all the chord changes • Play Hole #1 in the 12 Bar Blues • Play Hole #2 in the 12 Bar Blues • Play Hole #3 in the 12 Bar Blues • Play Hole #4 in the 12 Bar Blues • Play Hole #5 in the 12 Bar Blues • Play Hole #6 in the 12 Bar Blues • Play Hole #7 in the 12 Bar Blues • Play Hole #8 in the 12 Bar Blues • Play Hole #9 in the 12 Bar Blues • Play Hole #10 in the 12 Bar Blues (note that 10’+ B is an option for I7 (G7), but it’s difficult to play and

honestly doesn’t sound good in this context, so let’s leave it out and play hole 9 in replacement). Jam: “I Want You With Me [Shuffle in E]”
