The winter edition of the quarterly newsletter is out now and has been delivered to letterboxes across the city. The publication includes information on the city’s frst Place Plan, upcoming NAIDOC events and a look at residential heritage restoration. STAY FIRE SAFE THIS WINTER The temperature is cooling and many households are preparing fre places and heaters to keep warm during the colder months. Home heating is a major cause of house fres in winter. There are some things you can do to reduce the risk of a house fre, including regular smoke alarm checks, appliance and freplace checks and correct storage of heating appliances. For more information about the requirements for smoke alarms, contact the city or read the winter fre safety tips at www.subiaco.wa.gov.au/ fresafety . ARE YOU A HOME-BASED BUSINESS? SENIORS’ LUNCH AT SUBIACO HOTEL Get cosy this winter in the courtyard at Subiaco Hotel and enjoy a two-course meal, hot or cold non-alcoholic beverage and live entertainment. Book a table with friends or come along and join a table with others. Bookings are essential and can be processed online, or with cash payment at the City of Subiaco Administration Centre. JOIN THE CHILDREN’S BOOK CLUB If you are a keen reader aged between six and eight years old you’re invited to join Subiaco Library’s Children’s Book Club. The book club meets on the second Tuesday of each month in The Nook at Subiaco Library. The frst book on the reading list is The Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl and the frst meeting will be held on Tuesday 9 July at 3.30pm. For more information contact the library on 9237 9300. READY, SET, PLAY! The City of Subiaco is celebrating the opening of a new play space at Market Square. The playground was developed in line with the city’s Playspace Strategy with valuable input from the local community. The city heard from residents, families, children and park users who provided feedback on the location of the playground within the park, and many design features such as shade sails, climbing structures and swings. Based on the community’s input, the new playground was installed at the site of the old skate park, where natural shade from existing trees provide sun protection. The Market Square Playground was offcially opened last week by Mayor Penny Taylor and children from Subiaco Primary School.
