Applied GerontologyThis articulated, multidisciplinary program in applied gerontology was developed to address the professional needs of graduates involved with policy, planning, and research or service delivery for older people, as well as those who are interested in understanding the issues surrounding the ageing process.

A professionally oriented course for graduates interested in acquiring knowledge and skills in the evaluation and management of auditory disorders (hearing loss and tinnitus) and their consequences, this program prepares you to begin clinical practice as an audiologist in a range of urban, rural and remote settings. This enables you to become a well-informed health professional, and to acquire critical skills in appraising scientific and clinical information which will assist your further professional development.

Career opportunities in gerontology are expanding as our ageing population continues to grow. Deepen your understanding of the issues surrounding the ageing process and strengthen your skills in promoting healthy and positive ageing frameworks.

The Graduate Certificate & Graduate Diploma in Applied Gerontology aim to introduce the principles and skills involved in social and clinical gerontology, and an understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of gerontology to inform policy and practice that supports living well in later life. They further aim to meet the professional development needs of graduates with an interest in ageing studies and aged care, within a global context.

Master of Applied Gerontology

Clinical Exercise PhysiologyThe Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology aims to prepare you for practice as an exercise physiologist.

The postgraduate Clinical Rehabilitation program provides opportunities for health professionals from any allied health, medical or nursing field to enhance their knowledge, skills and attitudes in clinical rehabilitation.

Graduate Certificate & Graduate Diploma of Clinical Rehabilitation

The Graduate Certificate in Clinical Rehabilitation is an 18-unit program that enables you to undertake a general studies option or select a specialty stream in neurological rehabilitation, in addition to gaining an understanding of the principles and practice of clinical rehabilitation. A clinical practice stream is also offered and is available full-time over one semester on campus.

The Graduate Diploma in Clinical Rehabilitation is a 36-unit program that comprises two core topics (4.5 units each) and six electives (4.5 units each).

It contains a core element of the graduate certificate program that exposes you to the principles and practice of clinical rehabilitation. As in the graduate certificate, you also have the opportunity of studying in an area relevant to your field of clinical practice, but in a broader program.

The Master of Nursing allows you to specialise and will provide you with the opportunity to further develop your advanced, specialised theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in a focused area of nursing, and apply them in a range of situations. The course aims to enable you to contribute to the development of nursing and healthcare in your chosen field.

Master of Nurse Practitioner

The Master of Nurse Practitioner prepares you to be a clinical leader in your field. You will have the skills and knowledge to effectively integrate and apply interdisciplinary skills to plan, implement and manage health care programs and services. You will acquire research skills and apply these to the resolution and improvement of health outcomes across a range of practice contexts. The Graduate Certificate & Graduate Diploma in Midwifery aims to provide the opportunity for Registered Midwives to advance their knowledge and skills for expanded professional practice.

The Graduate Certificate in Midwifery includes 18 units with 9 units of core topics learning advanced skills in models of care, pharmacology and prescribing of medications, investigation and diagnostics for midwifery practice and 9 units of specialisation choice.

The Graduate Diploma in Midwifery includes 36 units with 18 units of core topics providing skills in leadership, advanced problem solving and an introduction to research and 18 units of specialisation choice.

Prescribing for Midwives Short Course

Palliative CareThis program provides leading edge content for students across the world using an interdisciplinary team approach. A flexible delivery mode makes it easy to fit around a hectic work and life schedule.

Physiotherapists work with people through the lifespan to develop, maintain and restore movement and functional ability. The physiotherapy profession has well-established research and evidence-based practice, which you will analyse and apply in this course.

Whether experienced practitioners or graduates with basic palliative care skills, graduates can enjoy careers in areas ranging from rural and remote, acute, community, acute hospitals and aged care settings, to palliative care units and hospice care. The Aged Care focused courses have been developed to provide practitioners from backgrounds in gerontology, aged care or palliative care with education in the specialty area of palliative care in aged care.

Master of PhysiotherapyThis course aims to prepare students for professional practice as physiotherapists. Graduates will be able to practise across a range of settings, including rural and remote areas. This course is accredited by the Australian Physiotherapy Council and satisfies the academic requirements for registration as a physiotherapist with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia.

Speech Pathology Master of Health & Clinical Research Speech pathologists provide professional services for

people across the lifespan whose educational, vocational, personal and social functioning is impaired by disorders of speech, language, voice, swallowing, fluency and hearing. The Master of Health and Clinical Research program is an

HDR pathway for professionals in any health field, giving graduates specialised knowledge and skills for research and is a pathway to studying a PhD.

Graduates will be equipped to begin practice in a wide range of health, educational and community settings. The course fosters your ability to respond effectively to the changing nature of professional knowledge and practice, preparing you to provide quality services throughout your working life.

The Master of Health and Clinical Research program is an 18-unit course of advanced coursework topics, as well as a time-based, supervised research project culminating in an externally-examined thesis.

Master of Speech Pathology

In the professional studies and communication sciences stream, the content is delivered via problem-based learning tutorials. It involves working through a weekly case study in small groups facilitated by a tutor and followed up with independent learning. These case studies are also supported by lectures and other learning resources. The case studies cover the areas of professional practice: speech, language, voice, fluency, swallowing and multimodal communication. These areas are considered in relation to lifespan development and socio-cultural context and how they impact health and well-being.

Graduates will meet the entry-level standards of Speech Pathology Australia, the national accrediting body, which will enable them to practice in Australia and to apply for mutual recognition of qualifications in many other countries and regions around the world, including the UK, New Zealand and Asia.

Research Centre for Palliative Care, Death and Dying

The Torrens Resilience Institute is one of Australia’s longest-standing research institutes dedicated to disaster preparedness and management. Our research is advancing the concept of resilience and helping organisations, communities and nations balance disaster preparedness and prevention, response and recovery.

Our research advises and guides government policy, prepares communities and empowers people to minimise the impacts of possible natural hazards, health emergencies and health security or humanitarian and other emergencies in Australia and around the world.

The Research Centre for Palliative Care, Death & Dying explores the universal experience of death and dying and champions the contribution of palliative care to the person, the health professional and the health system.

How do I apply?

1. SELECT YOUR PREFERRED COURSE.

2. CHECK ENTRY REQUIREMENTS.

Most graduate entry bachelor degrees, graduate certificates and graduate diplomas require a three-year undergraduate degree from an Australian university or equivalent.

There are also minimum entry requirements for each course. But if you don’t meet the requirements you may be admitted (subject to specific conditions) at the discretion of the College offering the course.

Overseas qualifications need to be equivalent to the above to be considered for entry.

3. CHECK INDIVIDUAL COURSE ENTRIES ON SATAC FOR INFORMATION ON IMPORTANT DATES.

Use SATAC’s course search to check individual course entries for information on important dates. You will find information on commencement date options, relevant closing date(s) for applications, and the timing of offers.

HDR applicants are required to provide a research outline, research experience statement and academic transcripts prior to submitting your application. Ensure you have reviewed the course rule and course information page for any additional requirements.
