“Why do you seek the living one among the dead? He is not here, but has been raised.” (Luke 24:5)

Mary Magdalene doesn’t recognize her dear friend, Jesus, when she comes in the early morning darkness to care for his broken and tortured body. He soon comforts her and opens her eyes to the

reality of his victory over death. He simply calls her name, “Mary.” (John 20:16)

He calls each of us, too, when we stand in the darkness of our own confusion and sadness. He calls us, too, when we are joyful, or just going about our everyday lives. Some!mes we actually respond, and it changes everything.

Fortunately, I am blessed to work with a group of people each year who hear his call and respond. At our Easter Vigil liturgy last night, we welcomed five people who were bap!zed into Christ through the Catholic Church.

We also welcomed and confirmed 12 other adults. This enthusias!c group of new Catholics is truly a gi# to the Church. All year, they have learned and prayed and witnessed God at work in their lives. Now, empowered by the Holy Spirit, they know that Jesus is there, wai!ng for them – calling their names all through their lives.

Many of our candidates have expressed that knowing and experiencing this great love has made them happier people. This is the joy of Easter. We pray that all of us may experience this kind of Easter joy, and that it will remain in all of our hearts throughout the year.

SUNDAYS FROM 12:45-1:45 PM The ESL program is looking for volunteers. Our classes are conversa!onal based, usually on a one-to-one, student-to-tutor ra!o. We meet once per week at St. Mary's each Sunday to help other members of our community, especially those of the Hispanic/La!no community, learn English. Fluency in a language besides English and/or prior ESL experience help, but are not required to volunteer. The students we teach are of all ages, have a wide level of English-speaking abili!es, and would really benefit from your help! It’s a very rewarding experience to volunteer with our program and a great way to grow in your faith. If you have any ques!ons or would like to get involved, please contact Tanner [email protected]
