Melanie’s Thoughts
End of Term I would just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in our school for their efforts this term. We are extremely lucky to have such a wonderful place to come to each day to learn and work. Also a big thank you to all the parents who take the time to support our school and students. We appreciate the time you give listening to readers, helping with homework, working in the canteen or volunteering for sports days etc. It takes a village to raise a child and we are very lucky to have such wonderful people to work with.
Reports Today everyone will have received their Semester One report. On the whole everyone should be extremely proud of their efforts so far this term. You have all been working very hard to achieve your personal best and we are very proud of you. We have also been focusing on developing learning goals, students from Year 1/2 - Year 12 will have a copy of these in their reports. Take the time to look at these and talk about them with your child. NAIDOC Celebrations Today we held our NAIDOC Celebration. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn more about our culture and history. Thank you to Aaron Nicholls and Maurie Day for helping us. Good Luck On behalf of our school I would like to wish Bri all the best as she heads off on maternity leave. Thank you for all your hard work.

For the sake of fun Doing the stuff you love to do and the things that are important to you are great for your and your child's well-being. When we spend time doing things we enjoy (or used to enjoy), it can give us relief from hard times, and build some fun in our life. It's also a
great way to build relationships which are essential for feeling good about life. Holidays are the perfect opportunity to connect with the people you care about doing the stuff you love - whatever it is that may be!
Liz Hindle School Chaplin YAM The mental health and wellbeing of our students is very important to us, and we are proud to be one of the 26 schools across the region running the Youth Aware of Mental Health (YAM) program this year. Our students will be learning about mental health & suicide, and you can too! We encourage all parents to learn how to recognise warning signs & talk confidently about suicide by signing up to Question Persuade Refer (QPR). It’s a 1hr, online training and you can do it for FREE via: https://lifespanmurrumbidgee.org.au/qpr-account. Primary News Assistant Principal Louisa Frost (Assistant Principal) Once again it is hard to believe that our term is coming to a close. I have enjoyed reflecting with my class this week on all the wonderful things we have achieved this term, which in turn led to a discussion about what they are looking forward to next term. I hope you enjoy reading about this. As always our final weeks have been very busy and productive. The Whole School Assembly was another chance to recognise all the hard work and the fantastic opportunities the students have had in Term 2. Finishing off the term with NAIDOC week has given all the students a chance to learn more about the culture of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. I hope you all enjoy the break with your families, I am looking forward to working with you all again next term,

Secondary News Head Teacher Jean Duma (Head Teacher) As we come to the end of Term 2 I'd like to wish you all a safe, happy and enjoyable holiday. Take time to relax and re-energise yourselves for Term 3. Half Yearly Reports go out on Friday and I encourage all students to read over their own comments and celebrate their success but also to reflect on areas of improvement for Semester 2. A reminder that Year 7& 8 have one more week of Aquatics - Week 1 next term, first day back for students. Year 9 & 10 have 5 more sessions, every Wednesday 1 next term. Early next term we will also have information meetings regarding Stage 5 and 6 subject selections for 2020. Please keep an eye out for letters home and posts on the school Facebook page regarding this.
Science Year 7/8 Science David McCarron (Science Teacher) Year 7/8 Science - have all but finished a unit of work on Forces with Mr Rohde. A topic test will be held early next term. All the students would like to wish Mr Rohde for his teaching and fun practicals over the past six weeks. The next topic for students will be Separating Mixtures. Students who have filled their Science books need to get a new one for the start of next term.
Year 9/10 Science Leeta Rutherford (Science Teacher) During Week 5 students presented their passion projects which they have been undertaking since the start of Term 1. They all did an amazing job and what they explored varied widely.
Mia’s Natural Beauty products.
Riley’s recycled truck.
Taylen’s Netball shoe design.
From Week 6 to Week 8 of this term the students undertook what is called a ‘black box activity’ which required them to use the 21st century skills of critical and creative thinking and problem solving. This task also allowed the students to experience various aspects of the scientific process. For this task students were given a sealed mystery tube (each group had a different type). Each group needed to figure out what could be happening inside the tube without opening it up. To do this students came up with tests they could run on the original tube which would allow them to create a set of criteria / properties of this tube. Once the students had a list of properties they then designed and create their own version on the tube with the aim of trying to make it match the criteria they had obtained from the original. I am so proud of the student’s collaboration and efforts in this task and am so ecstatic with their results. They were all able to create tubes that were so extremely close to the original. Marshall, Riley, Tane and Owen were able to have their version retract its strings when shaken just like the original tube.
Term 2 – Week 10 Friday 5th July 2019

Mystery Tube made by Marshall, Riley, Tane and Owen.
Taylen, Mitchell, Ryan and Mia were able to have their tube move up the string when pulling both ends to the short string end just like the original.
Mystery Tube made by Taylen, Mitchell, Ryan and Mia Emma, Tara, Jack and Cooper were able to have their four strings behave in exactly the same way of the original tube.
Mystery Tube made by Emma, Tara, Jack and Cooper.
For the remainder of this term and next term students will be exploring atoms, molecules, nuclear energy and the periodic table, This will include various activities such as station labs, first-hand investigations, hands-on tasks and secondary-source investigations which will lead to a silent debate and many other different tasks. Biology The Stage 6 students are halfway through their Year 12 course. They have completed Module 5 and 6. Last week (as a part of Module 7) the students planned and began running the same experiment as Louis Pasteur did when he proved that bacteria and germs can be carried in the air.
Biology recreated Louis Pasteur’s experiment
The students are currently participating in a depth study created by the Kinghorn Centre for Clinical Genomics (KCCG) which is a part of the Garvan Institute for Medical Research. The students will continue to undertake aspects of this depth study across the rest of the Biology course leading up to a formal assessment task. Child Studies Our Stage 5 Child Studies class hosted a fun Farm party for the Foundation class to celebrate. We organised healthy and nutritious food to suit the children’s needs. The farm party games were a big hit! The animal themed games tied the whole party together. They played guess the animal from noises and pictures as well as pin the tail on the donkey. We all enjoyed the party celebrations as well as taste testing the food. By Mia, Emma, Taylen and Tara.

Careers Kim Morton (Careers Teacher) Well done to all Year 10 students and those who participated in the Mock Interviews from Mr. Nelson’s Work Studies class. All students were actively engaged in the process and had made considerable effort to be ready for this valuable activity. The interview panels were impressed and all students will be given feedback about their preparation and participation in the Mock Interview. A big thank you to all the panel members for giving up valuable time to be part of the process. Thanks also to the Tooleybuc Sporting Club for allowing us to hold the event there.

purchase particular products or services. Employment can be in advertising agencies which can vary in size and scope. Large agencies are often confined to metropolitan areas as the industry must have direct access to major business districts, associated industry groups and media. You can also find advertising sales and account management positions at media companies in; print - daily and metro newspapers, radio, outdoor, digital (online) and television. Overall, the future is strong for this industry. The Australian Government projects that advertising and marketing professionals will see a 12.5% increase in employment opportunities within the next 5 years*. Advertising account executives:
Discuss the product or service to be advertised with clients and/or other stakeholders.
Develop the campaign strategy and details, then brief other specialists.
Analyse data and buying behaviours.
Present concepts, campaigns and media plans to clients along with a summary of expenditure.
Negotiate rates and spend according to budget.
Supervise and coordinate the work of the relevant production departments to ensure the campaign meets deadlines and budget requirements.
Communicate with clients throughout projects and deal with problems if they arise.
Work as part of a team and closely with their clients.
To be an advertising account executive, it is helpful to:
Be creative and imaginative.
Have an analytical ability.
Be well presented and have a pleasant manner.
Have good communication and negotiation skills.
Be able to network effectively and work under pressure to deadlines.
Be able to present well.
Have a sales focus (in advertising sales positions).
There are various ways to enter the advertising industry. Some companies find a degree with a major in advertising and marketing desirable and others value work experience and performance. Over half of the workers in the industry have a university degree, to do this you will need to have gained your VCE with
prerequisites in one or more of English and Mathematics. Career Profile – Advertising Account Executive Name: Varena Lyell Current Position: Marketing Account Director at LinkedIn Can you tell us where you studied, how long your course duration was and where you undertook your work experience (if any) to become qualified as an Advertising Account Executive? I did not undertake any study, but rather worked my way through the advertising industry to achieve my current role. Whilst you were studying at secondary school, did you know that you wanted to work in the advertising industry? Not at all, I wanted to be an Oscar winning actress. What do you love about your job? I love presenting in front of an audience for obvious reasons stated above. I also love the fast-dynamic pace of the industry as well as it being a creative environment that allows me to do more creative thinking when approaching my client’s strategic responses. I’m very much a people person and this industry is all about relationships and I love that I am able to get out and interact with people, rather than being stuck at my desk all day. I also LOVE the perks. What personal requirements would you say are necessary in your position? • To have an ability to work and adapt within a fast paced deadline-orientated environment • To have a relationship driven personality • Be a strategic thinker • Be able to follow through and have attention to detail What are the challenges of your job and the best ways to overcome those challenges? At LinkedIn, there is an unbelievable amount of information coming at you all the time, as the company encourages a growth mindset. The challenge is not allowing this to overwhelm you, rather create processes to get through what is most relevant. The other challenge is also protecting my core clients that spend while investing time to build on other business units within the restricted client base I look after. This is where relationships and contacts come into play to help develop more business (accounts).
